ਰਾਛਸ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਏ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਤਟਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਭੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਨ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥
raachhas maar ge jamunaa tatt jaae sabho mil an mangaayo |
After killing the demon, all went to the bank of Yamuna and put the articles of meal together
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਰ ਪਰਿਓ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਕਟਿ ਖੋਸ ਲਈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
kaanrah pravaar pario muralee katt khos lee man mai sukh paayo |
All the boys gathered around Krishna putting his flute in his waist, Krishna felt great delight
ਕੈ ਛਮਕਾ ਬਰਖੈ ਛਟਕਾ ਕਰ ਬਾਮ ਹੂੰ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਹੂੰ ਵਹ ਖਾਯੋ ॥
kai chhamakaa barakhai chhattakaa kar baam hoon so sabh hoon veh khaayo |
All the boys gathered around Krishna putting his flute in his waist, Krishna felt great delight
ਮੀਠ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਰ ਕੈ ਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧੭੬॥
meetth lage tih kee upamaa kar kai gat kai har ke mukh paayo |176|
They immediately seasoned the food and began to eat it quickly with their left hand and put the tasty food in the mouth of Krishna.176.
ਕੋਊ ਡਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸ ਠਗਾਇ ਕੋਊ ਅਪਣੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
koaoo ddarai har ke mukh graas tthagaae koaoo apane mukh ddaare |
Someone, being frightened, began to put the morsels in the mouth of Krishna and someone causing Krishna to eat the food,
ਹੋਇ ਗਏ ਤਨਮੈ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਮਕ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹਰ ਕਾਰੇ ॥
hoe ge tanamai kachh naamak khel karo sang kaanrahar kaare |
Began to put the morsels in his own mouth in this way all began to play with Krishna
ਤਾ ਛਿਨ ਲੈ ਬਛਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਇਕਠੇ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਕੁਟੀ ਮਧਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
taa chhin lai bachhare brahamaa ikatthe kar kai su kuttee madh ddaare |
At the same time, Brahma gathered together their calves and closed them in a cottage
ਢੂੰਢਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਨ ਲਹੇ ਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਛਰੇ ਅਰੁ ਗ੍ਵਾਰ ਨਏ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥੧੭੭॥
dtoondt fire na lahe su karai bachhare ar gvaar ne karataare |177|
All of them went in search of their calves, but when not any gopa and calf could be found the Lord (Krishna) created new calves and gopas.177.

ਜਬੈ ਹਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਇਹੈ ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤਤਕਾਲੁ ॥

ਕਿਧੋ ਬਨਾਏ ਛਿਨਕੁ ਮੈ ਬਛਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਵਾਲ ॥੧੭੮॥
kidho banaae chhinak mai bachhare sang gavaal |178|
When Brahma did all this stealing, then at the same instant Krishna created the calves alongwith gopas.178.

ਰੂਪ ਉਹੀ ਪਟ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ਹੈ ਵਹ ਰੰਗ ਵਹੈ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਬਛਰਾ ਕੋ ॥
roop uhee patt ke rang hai veh rang vahai sab hee bachharaa ko |
The same forms the same garments and exactly the same colour of the calves,
ਸਾਝਿ ਪਰੀ ਸੋ ਗਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਲਖੈ ਇਤਨੋ ਬਲ ਕਾ ਕੋ ॥
saajh paree so ge har jee greh koee lakhai itano bal kaa ko |
When evening fell, Krishna returned to his home who is there to adjudge his power?
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁ ਲਖੇ ਨ ਲਖੇ ਇਕ ਆਦਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨੀ ਮਨ ਜਾ ਕੋ ॥
maat pitaa su lakhe na lakhe ik aad ko naam manee man jaa ko |
Brahma thought that the parents would, seeing all this,
ਬਾਤ ਇਹੀ ਸਮਝੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਅਬ ਖੇਲ ਸਮਾਪਤਿ ਵਾ ਕੋ ॥੧੭੯॥
baat ihee samajhee man mai ih hai ab khel samaapat vaa ko |179|
Understand the whole thing and the game of Krishna would now be finished.179.
ਚੂਮ ਲਯੋ ਜਸੁਦਾ ਸੁਤ ਕੋ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਜਾਇ ਉਠੇ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਤੋ ॥
choom layo jasudaa sut ko sir kaanrah bajaae utthe muralee to |
When Krishna played on his flute, Yashoda kissed his head and
ਬਾਲ ਲਖੇ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਨ ਕਿਨੀ ਜਨ ਗੋ ਦਵਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਹਿਤ ਕੀਤੋ ॥
baal lakhe apuno na kinee jan go davaree tih so hit keeto |
None other paid attention to his boy they all loved Krishna
ਹੋਤ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਪੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਮੈ ਨਹਿ ਹੋਤ ਇਤੇ ਸੁ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਿਮ ਬੀਤੋ ॥
hot kulaahal pai brij mai neh hot ite su kahoon kim beeto |
Whatever tumult is there in Braja, such a tumult is not there at any other place it is not being known how the time is passing
ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤ ਸਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨ ਲੇਹ ਬਲਾਇ ਬਧੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੀਤੋ ॥੧੮੦॥
gaavat geet sane har gvaaran leh balaae badh brij keeto |180|
Krishna began to sing songs with gopis alongwith the newly married women.180.
ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਉਠ ਕੈ ਬਨ ਬੀਚ ਗਏ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਕਰ ਬਛੇ ॥
praat bhe har jee utth kai ban beech ge sang lai kar bachhe |
When the day dawned, Krishna again went to the forest taking the calves with him
ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤ ਫਿਰਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਛਟਕਾ ਗਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ਸਭੈ ਕਰਿ ਹਛੇ ॥
gaavat geet firaavat hai chhattakaa geh gavaar sabhai kar hachhe |
He saw there all the gopa boys singing songs and twirling their clubs
ਖੇਲਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਨੰਦ ਕੋ ਨੰਦ ਸੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗਿਰਿ ਕੋ ਉਠਿ ਗਛੇ ॥
khelat khelat nand ko nand su aap hee te gir ko utth gachhe |
Continuing the play, Krishna went towards the mountain
ਕੋਊ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਖੇਦ ਗਹੈ ਹਮ ਕੋਊ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਨਛੇ ॥੧੮੧॥
koaoo kahai ih khed gahai ham koaoo kahai ih naahan nachhe |181|
Someone said that Krishna was angry with them and someone said tht he was unwell.181.
ਹੋਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਸਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨ ਲੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਪੈ ਸਭ ਗਾਈ ॥
hoe ikatr sanai har gvaaran lai apune sang pai sabh gaaee |
Krishna moved on with the boys and the cows
ਦੇਖਿ ਤਿਨੈ ਗਿਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਢਾਇ ਸਭੈ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਈ ॥
dekh tinai gir ke sir te man mohi badtaae sabhai utth dhaaee |
Seeing them on the top of the mountain all ran towards them gopas also went towards them
ਗੋਪ ਗਏ ਤਿਨ ਪੈ ਚਲ ਕੈ ਜਬ ਜਾਤ ਪਿਖੀ ਤਿਨ ਨੈਨਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
gop ge tin pai chal kai jab jaat pikhee tin nainan maaee |
Yashoda also saw this spectacle Krishna was standing there in anger without moving
ਰੋਹ ਭਰੇ ਸੁ ਖਰੇ ਨ ਟਰੇ ਸੁਤ ਨੰਦਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਹੁ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥੧੮੨॥
roh bhare su khare na ttare sut nandeh ke kahu baat sunaaee |182|
And all these people told many things to Krishna.182.

Fourth Mehl:
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੀ ਆਪੇ ਆਣਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
jin kau aap dee vaddiaaee jagat bhee aape aan tin kau pairee paae |
The Lord Himself bestows glorious greatness; He Himself causes the world to come and fall at their feet.
ਡਰੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪ ਦੂ ਕੀਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਧਾਏ ॥
ddareeai taan je kichh aap doo keechai sabh karataa aapanee kalaa vadhaae |
We should only be afraid, if we try to do things by ourselves; the Creator is increasing His Power in every way.
ਦੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਏਹੁ ਅਖਾੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਜੋਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਏ ॥
dekhahu bhaaee ehu akhaarraa har preetam sache kaa jin aapanai jor sabh aan nivaae |
Behold, O Siblings of Destiny: this is the Arena of the Beloved True Lord; His power brings everyone to bow in humility.
ਆਪਣਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਖ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aapaniaa bhagataa kee rakh kare har suaamee nindakaa dusattaa ke muh kaale karaae |
The Lord, our Lord and Master, preserves and protects His devotees; He blackens the faces of the slanderers and evil-doers.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
satigur kee vaddiaaee nit charrai savaaee har keerat bhagat nit aap karaae |
The glorious greatness of the True Guru increases day by day; the Lord inspires His devotees to continually sing the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਘਰੀ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
anadin naam japahu gurasikhahu har karataa satigur gharee vasaae |
O GurSikhs, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, night and day; through the True Guru, the Creator Lord will come to dwell within the home of your inner being.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕਢਾਏ ॥
satigur kee baanee sat sat kar jaanahu gurasikhahu har karataa aap muhahu kadtaae |
O GurSikhs, know that the Bani, the Word of the True Guru, is true, absolutely true. The Creator Lord Himself causes the Guru to chant it.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਉਜਲੇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਸਭਤੁ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
gurasikhaa ke muh ujale kare har piaaraa gur kaa jaikaar sansaar sabhat karaae |
The Beloved Lord makes the faces of His GurSikhs radiant; He makes the whole world applaud and acclaim the Guru.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਏ ॥੨॥
jan naanak har kaa daas hai har daasan kee har paij rakhaae |2|
Servant Nanak is the slave of the Lord; the Lord Himself preserves the honor of His slave. ||2||

ਸਚੁ ਪੂਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਥਾਰੇ ॥
sach poojee naam drirraae prabh vanajaare thaare |
Please, implant within me the true treasure of Your Name; O God, I am Your merchant.
ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਥਹ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥
sach seveh sach vananj laihi gun kathah niraare |
I serve the True One, and deal in the True One; I chant Your Wondrous Praises.
ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sevak bhaae se jan mile gur sabad savaare |
Those humble beings who serve the Lord with love meet Him; they are adorned with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਖਾਰੇ ॥੧੪॥
too sachaa saahib alakh hai gur sabad lakhaare |14|
O my True Lord and Master, You are unknowable; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You are known. ||14||

ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਭਲਾ ॥
jis andar taat paraaee hovai tis daa kade na hovee bhalaa |
One whose heart is filled with jealousy of others, never comes to any good.
ਓਸ ਦੈ ਆਖਿਐ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਓਜਾੜੀ ਪੂਕਾਰੇ ਖਲਾ ॥
os dai aakhiai koee na lagai nit ojaarree pookaare khalaa |
No one pays any attention to what he says; he is just a fool, crying out endlessly in the wilderness.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਚੁਗਲੋ ਵਜੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
jis andar chugalee chugalo vajai keetaa karatiaa os daa sabh geaa |
One whose heart is filled with malicious gossip, is known as a malicious gossip; everything he does is in vain.
ਨਿਤ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰੇ ਅਣਹੋਦੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਢਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਭਇਆ ॥
nit chugalee kare anahodee paraaee muhu kadt na sakai os daa kaalaa bheaa |
Night and day, he continually gossips about others; his face has been blackened, and he cannot show it to anyone.
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਖਾਏ ॥
karam dharatee sareer kalijug vich jehaa ko beeje tehaa ko khaae |
The body is the field of action, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga; as you plant, so shall you harvest.
ਗਲਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਸੁ ਖਾਧੀ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
galaa upar tapaavas na hoee vis khaadhee tatakaal mar jaae |
Justice is not passed on mere words; if someone eats poison, he dies.
ਭਾਈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਏ ॥
bhaaee vekhahu niaau sach karate kaa jehaa koee kare tehaa koee paae |
O Siblings of Destiny, behold the justice of the True Creator; as people act, so they are rewarded.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੧॥
jan naanak kau sabh sojhee paaee har dar keea baataa aakh sunaae |1|
The Lord has bestowed total understanding upon servant Nanak; he speaks and proclaims the words of the Lord's Court. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਹੋਦੈ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਦਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
hodai paratakh guroo jo vichhurre tin kau dar dtoee naahee |
Those who separate themselves from the Guru, in spite of His Constant Presence - they find no place of rest in the Court of the Lord.
ਕੋਈ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਕੇ ਥੁਕ ਥੁਕ ਮੁਹਿ ਪਾਹੀ ॥
koee jaae milai tin nindakaa muh fike thuk thuk muhi paahee |
If someone goes to meet with those dull-faced slanderers, he will find their faces covered with spit.
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਫਿਟਕੇ ਸੇ ਸਭ ਜਗਤਿ ਫਿਟਕੇ ਨਿਤ ਭੰਭਲ ਭੂਸੇ ਖਾਹੀ ॥
jo satigur fittake se sabh jagat fittake nit bhanbhal bhoose khaahee |
Those who are cursed by the True Guru, are cursed by all the world. They wander around endlessly.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਢਹਾ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥
jin gur gopiaa aapanaa se laide dtahaa firaahee |
Those who do not publicly affirm their Guru wander around, moaning and groaning.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਭੁਖਾ ਭੁਖ ਕੂਕਾਹੀ ॥
tin kee bhukh kade na utarai nit bhukhaa bhukh kookaahee |
Their hunger shall never depart; afflicted by constant hunger, they cry out in pain.
ਓਨਾ ਦਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਕੋ ਨਾ ਸੁਣੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਉਲੇ ਹਉਲਿ ਮਰਾਹੀ ॥
onaa daa aakhiaa ko naa sunai nit haule haul maraahee |
No one hears what they have to say; they live in constant fear and terror, until they finally die.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਨੀ ਓਨਾ ਅਗੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
satigur kee vaddiaaee vekh na sakanee onaa agai pichhai thaau naahee |
They cannot bear the glorious greatness of the True Guru, and they find no place of rest, here or hereafter.
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਰਹਦੀ ਖੁਹਦੀ ਸਭ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਹੀ ॥
jo satigur maare tin jaae mileh rahadee khuhadee sabh pat gavaahee |
Those who go out to meet with those who have been cursed by the True Guru, lose all remnants of their honor.
ਓਇ ਅਗੈ ਕੁਸਟੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਫਿਟਕੇ ਜਿ ਓਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਸਟੁ ਉਠਾਹੀ ॥
oe agai kusattee gur ke fittake ji os milai tis kusatt utthaahee |
They have already become like lepers; cursed by the Guru, whoever meets them is also afflicted with leprosy.
ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਹੀ ॥
har tin kaa darasan naa karahu jo doojai bhaae chit laahee |
O Lord, I pray that I may not even catch sight of those, who focus their consciousness on the love of duality.
ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਾਰਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
dhur karatai aap likh paaeaa tis naal kihu chaaraa naahee |
That which the Creator pre-ordained from the very beginning - there can be no escape from that.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਤੂ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਕਾਹੀ ॥
jan naanak naam araadh too tis aparr ko na sakaahee |
O servant Nanak, worship and adore the Naam, the Name of the Lord; no one can equal it.
ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਵਾਈ ਚੜੈ ਚੜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
naavai kee vaddiaaee vaddee hai nit savaaee charrai charraahee |2|
Great is the greatness of His Name; it increases, day by day. ||2||
