ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੪ ॥

Siree Raag, First Mehl, Fourth House:

ਤੂ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਮੈ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਕੈਸੇ ਅੰਤੁ ਲਹਾ ॥

too dareeaau daanaa beenaa mai machhulee kaise ant lahaa |

You are the River, All-knowing and All-seeing. I am just a fish-how can I find Your limit?

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਫੂਟਿ ਮਰਾ ॥੧॥

jeh jeh dekhaa teh teh too hai tujh te nikasee foott maraa |1|

Wherever I look, You are there. Outside of You, I would burst and die. ||1||

ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੇਉ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਜਾਲੀ ॥

n jaanaa meo na jaanaa jaalee |

I do not know of the fisherman, and I do not know of the net.

ਜਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਸਮਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jaa dukh laagai taa tujhai samaalee |1| rahaau |

But when the pain comes, then I call upon You. ||1||Pause||

ਤੂ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਮੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

too bharapoor jaaniaa mai door |

You are present everywhere. I had thought that You were far away.

ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੀ ਸੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

jo kachh karee su terai hadoor |

Whatever I do, I do in Your Presence.

ਤੂ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਹਉ ਮੁਕਰਿ ਪਾਉ ॥

too dekheh hau mukar paau |

You see all my actions, and yet I deny them.

ਤੇਰੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥

terai kam na terai naae |2|

I have not worked for You, or Your Name. ||2||

ਜੇਤਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੇਤਾ ਹਉ ਖਾਉ ॥

jetaa dehi tetaa hau khaau |

Whatever You give me, that is what I eat.

ਬਿਆ ਦਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥

biaa dar naahee kai dar jaau |

There is no other door-unto which door should I go?

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

naanak ek kahai aradaas |

Nanak offers this one prayer:

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥

jeeo pindd sabh terai paas |3|

this body and soul are totally Yours. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪੇ ਮੰਝਿ ਮਿਆਨੋੁ ॥

aape nerrai door aape hee aape manjh miaano |

He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away; He Himself is in-between.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਹਾਨੋੁ ॥

aape vekhai sune aape hee kudarat kare jahaano |

He Himself beholds, and He Himself listens. By His Creative Power, He created the world.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਨੋੁ ॥੪॥੩੧॥

jo tis bhaavai naanakaa hukam soee paravaano |4|31|

Whatever pleases Him, O Nanak-that Command is acceptable. ||4||31||

ਕੀਤਾ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

keetaa kahaa kare man maan |

Why should the created beings feel pride in their minds?

ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

devanahaare kai hath daan |

The Gift is in the Hands of the Great Giver.

ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਸੋਇ ॥

bhaavai dee na deee soe |

As it pleases Him, He may give, or not give.

ਕੀਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

keete kai kahiai kiaa hoe |1|

What can be done by the order of the created beings? ||1||

ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਚੁ ॥

aape sach bhaavai tis sach |

He Himself is True; Truth is pleasing to His Will.

ਅੰਧਾ ਕਚਾ ਕਚੁ ਨਿਕਚੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

andhaa kachaa kach nikach |1| rahaau |

The spiritually blind are unripe and imperfect, inferior and worthless. ||1||Pause||

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੁਖ ਬਿਰਖ ਆਰਾਉ ॥

jaa ke rukh birakh aaraau |

The One who owns the trees of the forest and the plants of the garden

ਜੇਹੀ ਧਾਤੁ ਤੇਹਾ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਉ ॥

jehee dhaat tehaa tin naau |

according to their nature, He gives them all their names.

ਫੁਲੁ ਭਾਉ ਫਲੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇ ॥

ful bhaau fal likhiaa paae |

The Flower and the Fruit of the Lord's Love are obtained by pre-ordained destiny.

ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥

aap beej aape hee khaae |2|

As we plant, so we harvest and eat. ||2||

ਕਚੀ ਕੰਧ ਕਚਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਾਜੁ ॥

kachee kandh kachaa vich raaj |

The wall of the body is temporary, as is the soul-mason within it.

ਮਤਿ ਅਲੂਣੀ ਫਿਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥

mat aloonee fikaa saad |

The flavor of the intellect is bland and insipid without the Salt.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਣੇ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

naanak aane aavai raas |

O Nanak, as He wills, He makes things right.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥੩॥੩੨॥

vin naavai naahee saabaas |3|32|

Without the Name, no one is approved. ||3||32||

Siree Raag, First Mehl, Fifth House:

ਅਛਲ ਛਲਾਈ ਨਹ ਛਲੈ ਨਹ ਘਾਉ ਕਟਾਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੈ ॥

achhal chhalaaee neh chhalai neh ghaau kattaaraa kar sakai |

The Undeceiveable is not deceived by deception. He cannot be wounded by any dagger.

ਜਿਉ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਇਸੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਟਲ ਪਲੈ ॥੧॥

jiau saahib raakhai tiau rahai is lobhee kaa jeeo ttal palai |1|

As our Lord and Master keeps us, so do we exist. The soul of this greedy person is tossed this way and that. ||1||

ਬਿਨੁ ਤੇਲ ਦੀਵਾ ਕਿਉ ਜਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bin tel deevaa kiau jalai |1| rahaau |

Without the oil, how can the lamp be lit? ||1||Pause||

ਪੋਥੀ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥

pothee puraan kamaaeeai |

Let the reading of your prayer book be the oil,

ਭਉ ਵਟੀ ਇਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

bhau vattee it tan paaeeai |

And let the Fear of God be the wick for the lamp of this body.

ਸਚੁ ਬੂਝਣੁ ਆਣਿ ਜਲਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

sach boojhan aan jalaaeeai |2|

Light this lamp with the understanding of Truth. ||2||

ਇਹੁ ਤੇਲੁ ਦੀਵਾ ਇਉ ਜਲੈ ॥

eihu tel deevaa iau jalai |

Use this oil to light this lamp.

ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤਉ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kar chaanan saahib tau milai |1| rahaau |

Light it, and meet your Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||

ਇਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਣੀਆ ॥

eit tan laagai baaneea |

This body is softened with the Word of the Guru's Bani;

ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਣੀਆ ॥

sukh hovai sev kamaaneea |

you shall find peace, doing seva (selfless service).

ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀਆ ॥੩॥

sabh duneea aavan jaaneea |3|

All the world continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||3||

ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥

vich duneea sev kamaaeeai |

In the midst of this world, do seva,

ਤਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

taa daragah baisan paaeeai |

and you shall be given a place of honor in the Court of the Lord.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹ ਲੁਡਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੩੩॥

kahu naanak baah luddaaeeai |4|33|

Says Nanak, swing your arms in joy! ||4||33||
