Seeing Ram, the Dharma-incarnate, in the battlefield and uttering various shouts from their mouth,

The demons rushed forth all the four directions and gathered together.69.

ਧੁਣੰ ਮੇਘ ਲਾਜੇ ॥

The musical instruments resounded violently and hearing their sounds, he clouds felt shy.

Fixing their banners on the earth the demons, filled with enmity began to wage war.70.

The bows clattered and the swords struck.

There was great knocking on the shields and the swords falling on them performed the rite of love.71.

Wishing for their victory, the demons showered their arrows.

Sabahu and Marich, knocking their teeth in fury, marched forward.73.

Both of them together pounced upon like a falcon, and,
ਲਯੋ ਘੋਰਿ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

They surrounded ram like the Cupid (Kamdev), surrounding the moon.74.

Ram was surrounded by the forces of demons like Shiva by the forces of Cupid (Kamdev).

Ram tarried there for war like Ganges on meeting the ocean.75.

Ram shouted so loudly in the war that the clouds felt shy

ਗਿਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਸ੍ਵਛੰ ॥੭੬॥

The warriors rolled in dust and mighty heroes fell on the earth.76.
ਚਲੈ ਐਂਠ ਮੁਛੈਂ ॥

ਕਹਾ ਰਾਮ ਪੁਛੈਂ ॥
kahaa raam puchhain |
Subadhu and Marich began to search for Ram, while twisting their whiskers,
ਅਬੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
abai haath laage |
ਕਹਾ ਜਾਹੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੭੭॥
kahaa jaahu bhaagai |77|
And said, “Where will he go and save himself, we will catch him just now.”77.

Seeing the enemies Ram became persistent and serious,
ਕਰੈ ਨੈਣ ਰਾਤੰ ॥

ਧਨੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਗਯਾਤੰ ॥੭੮॥

And the eyes of that knower of the science of archery, reddened.78.

The bow of Ram raised a terrible sound and showered a volley of arrows.

The armies of the enemy were being destroyed, seeing which the gods smiled in heaven.79.

Marich saw his army running away,
ਫਿਰਿਯੋ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਯੋ ॥

ਮਨੋ ਸਾਪ ਛੇੜਯੋ ॥੮੦॥
mano saap chherrayo |80|
And challenged his forces in great ire like the rage of a snake.80.

ਕਰਿਯੋ ਸਿੰਧ ਪਯਾਣੰ ॥
kariyo sindh payaanan |
Ram discharge his arrow towards Marich, who ran towards the sea.
ਤਜਿਯੋ ਰਾਜ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

ਲਿਯੋ ਜੋਗ ਭੇਸੰ ॥੮੧॥
liyo jog bhesan |81|
He adopted the garb of a Yogi, abandoning his kingdom and country.81.

He wore the garments of a Yogi on forsaking the beautiful royal dress,

ਪੁਨਰ ਦ੍ਰੋਹ ਤਿਆਗੰ ॥੮੨॥
punar droh tiaagan |82|
And abandoning all inimical ideas, he began to live in a cottage in Lanka.82.

Subahu marched forward alongwith his soldiers in great rage,]

And in the war of arrows, he also heard the terrible sound.83.

In the bedecked forces, very swift horses began to run

The elephants roared in all the for directions and in front of their roars, the thunder of clouds appeared very dull.84.

The knocking on the shields was audible and the yellow and red shields looked impressive.

The warriors began to rise holding their weapons in their hands, and there was a continuous flow of shafts.85.

The fire-shafts were discharged and the weapons began to fall form the hands of the warriors .

Many wounded people are roaming like a drunkard swinging in intoxication.

ਫੁਲੈ ਫੂਲ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੮੭॥

The warriors have caught hold of each other like a flower meeting the other flower joyfully.87.

ਭਯੋ ਆਪ ਭੇਸੰ ॥

The demon-king was killed and he attained his real form.

The musical instruments were played and listening to their sound, the clouds felt.88.

Many charioteers were killed and the horses began to roam in the battlefield unclaimed.

ਛੁਟੀ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੮੯॥

This war was so dreadful that even the meditation of Shiva was ruptured.89.

The resounding of the gongs, drums and tabors began.

He chopped the arms of Subahu and killed him.92.

All the saints were pleased over the victory.

Everyone calls upon You with their palms pressed together, saying, "Shiva, Shiva". O Merciful Lord and Master, everyone cries out for Your Help. ||1||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
tumaree kripaa te maanukh deh paaee hai dehu daras har raaeaa |1|
By Your Grace, I obtained this human body; grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, O Sovereign Lord King. ||1||
ਸੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
soee hoaa jo tis bhaanaa avar na kin hee keetaa |
That which pleases His Will has come to pass; no one else can do anything.
ਤੁਮਰੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੨॥
tumarai bhaanai bharam mohi mohiaa jaagat naahee sootaa |2|
By Your Will, enticed by the illusion of emotional attachment, the people are asleep; they do not wake up. ||2||
ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
binau sunahu tum praanapat piaare kirapaa nidh deaalaa |
Please hear my prayer, O Lord of Life, O Beloved, Ocean of mercy and compassion.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਨਾਥਹ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
raakh lehu pitaa prabh mere anaathah kar pratipaalaa |3|
Save me, O my Father God. I am an orphan - please, cherish me! ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ॥
jis no tumeh dikhaaeo darasan saadhasangat kai paachhai |
You reveal the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, for the sake of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧੂਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਛੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੩੦॥
kar kirapaa dhoor dehu santan kee sukh naanak ihu baachhai |4|9|130|
Grant Your Grace, and bless us with the dust of the feet of the Saints; Nanak yearns for this peace. ||4||9||130||

How can I recount the praises of those humble beings who are attuned to the Love of the Supreme Lord God?
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਨ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਦਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
sookh sehaj aanand tinaa sang un samasar avar na daate |1|
Peace, intuitive poise and bliss are with them. There are no other givers equal to them. ||1||
ਜਗਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਸੇਈ ਆਏ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਦਰਸ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
jagat udhaaran seee aae jo jan daras piaasaa |
They have come to save the world - those humble beings who thirst for His Blessed Vision.
ਉਨ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਸੋ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥੨॥
aun kee saran parai so tariaa santasang pooran aasaa |2|
Those who seek their Sanctuary are carried across; in the Society of the Saints, their hopes are fulfilled. ||2||
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਚਰਣਿ ਪਰਉ ਤਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥
taa kai charan prau taa jeevaa jan kai sang nihaalaa |
If I fall at their Feet, then I live; associating with those humble beings, I remain happy.
ਭਗਤਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
bhagatan kee ren hoe man meraa hohu prabhoo kirapaalaa |3|
O God, please be merciful to me, that my mind might become the dust of the feet of Your devotees. ||3||
ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਅਵਧ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਘਾਟਿਆ ॥
raaj joban avadh jo deesai sabh kichh jug meh ghaattiaa |
Power and authority, youth and age - whatever is seen in this world, all of it shall fade away.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਦ ਨਵਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਾਟਿਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੧੩੧॥
naam nidhaan sad navatan niramal ihu naanak har dhan khaattiaa |4|10|131|
The treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is forever new and immaculate. Nanak has earned this wealth of the Lord. ||4||10||131||
