ਦੁਹੂੰ ਜੁਧੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਰਣ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
duhoon judh keenaa ran maahee |
ਤੀਸਰ ਅਵਰੁ ਤਹਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
teesar avar tahaa ko naahee |
Both Shiva and Jalandhar fought and there was none other in the battlefield.
ਕੇਤਕ ਮਾਸ ਮਚਿਯੋ ਤਹ ਜੁਧਾ ॥
ketak maas machiyo teh judhaa |
ਜਾਲੰਧਰ ਹੁਐ ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਾ ॥੨੪॥
jaalandhar huai siv pur krudhaa |24|
The war continued of several month and Jalndhar was filled with great fury for (the action of ) Shiva.24.
ਤਬ ਸਿਵ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਕਤਿ ਕੌ ਧਰਾ ॥
tab siv dhiaan sakat kau dharaa |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸਕਤਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰ ਕਰਾ ॥
taa te sakat kripaa kar karaa |
Then Shiva meditated upon the Shakti (power) and the Power (Shakti) was Gracious towards him.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਭਯੋ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਬਲਵਾਨਾ ॥
taa te bhayo rudr balavaanaa |
ਮੰਡਿਯੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਨਾ ॥੨੫॥
manddiyo judh bahur bidh naanaa |25|
Now, Rudra getting mightier than before began to wage wr.25.
ਉਤ ਹਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਨਾਰਿ ਰਿਪ ਸਤ ਹਰਿ ॥
aut har layo naar rip sat har |
ਇਤ ਸਿਵ ਭਯੋ ਤੇਜ ਦੇਬੀ ਕਰਿ ॥
eit siv bhayo tej debee kar |
On that side, Vishnu had defiled the chastity of woman, and on this side, Shiva also, having received the effulgence form the goddess, became more powerful.
ਛਿਨ ਮੋ ਕੀਯੋ ਅਸੁਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਸਾ ॥
chhin mo keeyo asur ko naasaa |
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੀਝ ਭਟ ਰਹੇ ਤਮਾਸਾ ॥੨੬॥
nirakh reejh bhatt rahe tamaasaa |26|
Therefore he destroyed the demon Jalandhar in and instant seeing this scene, all were pleased.26.
ਜਲੰਧਰੀ ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
jalandharee taa din te naamaa |
ਜਪਹੁ ਚੰਡਿਕਾ ਕੋ ਸਬ ਜਾਮਾ ॥
japahu chanddikaa ko sab jaamaa |
Those who repeat the Name of Chandika, they know that from that day, Chnadika came to be known as Jalandhari.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
taa te hot pavitr sareeraa |
ਜਿਮ ਨ੍ਰਹਾਏ ਜਲ ਗੰਗ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥੨੭॥
jim nrahaae jal gang gaheeraa |27|
By repeating her name, the body becomes pure like taking bath in the Ganges.27.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥
taa te kahee na rudr kahaanee |
ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਬਢਨ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
granth badtan kee chint pachhaanee |
Keeping in mind the fear of making the book voluminous, I have not narrated the complete story of Rudra.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਥਾ ਥੋਰਿ ਹੀ ਭਾਸੀ ॥
taa te kathaa thor hee bhaasee |
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਭੂਲਿ ਕਬਿ ਕਰੋ ਨ ਹਾਸੀ ॥੨੮॥
nirakh bhool kab karo na haasee |28|
This story has only been narrated in brief on knowing this, kindly do not jeer at me.28.

jaisik dhariyo saroop muraaraa |
Now I enumerate the incarnations of Vishnu as to what type of incarnations he adopted.
ਬਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋਤ ਧਰਨਿ ਜਬ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
biaakul hot dharan jab bhaaraa |
ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
kaal purakh peh karat pukaaraa |1|
When the earth is distempered with the load of sins, then she manifested her anguish before the Destroyer Lord.1.
ਅਸੁਰ ਦੇਵਤਨ ਦੇਤਿ ਭਜਾਈ ॥
asur devatan det bhajaaee |
ਛੀਨ ਲੇਤ ਭੂਅ ਕੀ ਠਕੁਰਾਈ ॥
chheen let bhooa kee tthakuraaee |
When the demons cause the gods to run away and seize their kingdom from them,
ਕਰਤ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਧਰਣਿ ਭਰਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
karat pukaar dharan bhar bhaaraa |
ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਤਬ ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
kaal purakh tab hot kripaaraa |2|
Then the earth, pressed under the load of sins, calls for help, and then the destroyer Lord becomes kind.2.

ਸਬ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਅੰਸ ਲੈ ਤਤੁ ਆਪਨ ਠਹਰਾਇ ॥
sab devan ko ans lai tat aapan tthaharaae |
ਬਿਸਨੁ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਤਤ ਦਿਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਅਦਿਤ ਕੈ ਆਇ ॥੩॥
bisan roop dhaar tat din grihi adit kai aae |3|
Then taking the elements of all the gods and principally merging himself in it, Vishnu manifest himself in different forms and takes birth in the clan of Aditi.3.

ਆਨ ਹਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਕੋ ਭਾਰਾ ॥

bahu bidh asuran karat sanghaaraa |
In this way, incarnating himself, he removes the load of the earth and destroys the demons in various ways.
ਭੂਮਿ ਭਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
bhoom bhaar har sur pur jaaee |
ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਮੋ ਰਹਤ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥
kaal purakh mo rehat samaaee |4|
After removing the lord of the earth, he goes again to the abode of gods and merges himself in the Destroyer Lord.4.
ਸਕਲ ਕਥਾ ਜਉ ਛੋਰਿ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥
sakal kathaa jau chhor sunaaoo |
ਬਿਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕਹਤ ਸ੍ਰਮ ਪਾਊ ॥
bisan prabandh kehat sram paaoo |
If I relate all these stories in detail, then it may delusively be called Vishnu-system.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਥੋਰੀਐ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੀ ॥
taa te thoreeai kathaa prakaasee |
ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੫॥
rog sog te raakh abinaasee |5|
Therefore, I narrate it in brief and O Lord! protect me form ailment and suffering.5.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
jaa kau apanee kirapaa dhaarai |
Those, upon whom the Lord Himself showers His Mercy,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
so jan rasanaa naam uchaarai |1|
chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with their tongues. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
har bisarat sahasaa dukh biaapai |
Forgetting the Lord, superstition and sorrow shall overtake you.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simarat naam bharam bhau bhaagai |1| rahaau |
Meditating on the Naam, doubt and fear shall depart. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
har keeratan sunai har keeratan gaavai |
Listening to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, and singing the Lord's Kirtan,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
tis jan dookh nikatt nahee aavai |2|
misfortune shall not even come near you. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰਤ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
har kee ttehal karat jan sohai |
Working for the Lord, His humble servants look beautiful.
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਪੋਹੈ ॥੩॥
taa kau maaeaa agan na pohai |3|
The fire of Maya does not touch them. ||3||
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
man tan mukh har naam deaal |
Within their minds, bodies and mouths, is the Name of the Merciful Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਜੀਅਲੇ ਅਵਰਿ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੪॥੫੨॥੧੨੧॥
naanak tajeeale avar janjaal |4|52|121|
Nanak has renounced other entanglements. ||4||52||121||

ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥

Renounce your cleverness, and your cunning tricks.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur poore kee ttek ttikaaee |1|
Seek the Support of the Perfect Guru. ||1||
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
dukh binase sukh har gun gaae |
Your pain shall depart, and in peace, you shall sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur pooraa bhettiaa liv laae |1| rahaau |
Meeting the Perfect Guru, let yourself be absorbed in the Lord's Love. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ॥
har kaa naam deeo gur mantru |
The Guru has given me the Mantra of the Name of the Lord.
ਮਿਟੇ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ਉਤਰੀ ਚਿੰਤ ॥੨॥
mitte visoore utaree chint |2|
My worries are forgotten, and my anxiety is gone. ||2||
ਅਨਦ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
anad bhe gur milat kripaal |
Meeting with the Merciful Guru, I am in ecstasy.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲ ॥੩॥
kar kirapaa kaatte jam jaal |3|
Showering His Mercy, He has cut away the noose of the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kahu naanak gur pooraa paaeaa |
Says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Guru;
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫੩॥੧੨੨॥
taa te bahur na biaapai maaeaa |4|53|122|
Maya shall no longer harass me. ||4||53||122||

The Perfect Guru Himself has saved me.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥
manamukh kau laago santaap |1|
The self-willed manmukhs are afflicted with misfortune. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਪਿ ਮੀਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
guroo guroo jap meet hamaare |
Chant and meditate on the Guru, the Guru, O my friend.
ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mukh aoojal hoveh darabaare |1| rahaau |
Your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ॥
gur ke charan hiradai vasaae |
Enshrine the Feet of the Guru within your heart;
ਦੁਖ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਤੈ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
dukh dusaman teree hatai balaae |2|
your pains, enemies and bad luck shall be destroyed. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
gur kaa sabad terai sang sahaaee |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is your Companion and Helper.
ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥
deaal bhe sagale jeea bhaaee |3|
O Siblings of Destiny, all beings shall be kind to you. ||3||
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਜਬ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ॥
gur poorai jab kirapaa karee |
When the Perfect Guru granted His Grace,
ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰੀ ॥੪॥੫੪॥੧੨੩॥
bhanat naanak meree pooree paree |4|54|123|
says Nanak, I was totally, completely fulfilled. ||4||54||123||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਨਿਕ ਰਸਾ ਖਾਏ ਜੈਸੇ ਢੋਰ ॥
anik rasaa khaae jaise dtor |
Like beasts, they consume all sorts of tasty treats.
ਮੋਹ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਚੋਰ ॥੧॥
moh kee jevaree baadhio chor |1|
With the rope of emotional attachment, they are bound and gagged like thieves. ||1||
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਦੇਹ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ॥
miratak deh saadhasang bihoonaa |
Their bodies are corpses, without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੁਖ ਖੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aavat jaat jonee dukh kheenaa |1| rahaau |
They come and go in reincarnation, and are destroyed by pain. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਹਿਰਾਇਆ ॥
anik basatr sundar pahiraaeaa |
They wear all sorts of beautiful robes,
ਜਿਉ ਡਰਨਾ ਖੇਤ ਮਾਹਿ ਡਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
jiau ddaranaa khet maeh ddaraaeaa |2|
but they are still just scarecrows in the field, frightening away the birds. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਵਤ ਸਭ ਕਾਮ ॥
sagal sareer aavat sabh kaam |
All bodies are of some use,
ਨਿਹਫਲ ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥
nihafal maanukh japai nahee naam |3|
but those who do not meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are totally useless. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kahu naanak jaa kau bhe deaalaa |
Says Nanak, those unto whom the Lord becomes Merciful,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਜਹਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੫੫॥੧੨੪॥
saadhasang mil bhajeh goupaalaa |4|55|124|
join the Saadh Sangat, and meditate on the Lord of the Universe. ||4||55||124||

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
kal kales gur sabad nivaare |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad quiets worries and troubles.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
aavan jaan rahe sukh saare |1|
Coming and going ceases, and all comforts are obtained. ||1||
ਭੈ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
bhai binase nirbhau har dhiaaeaa |
Fear is dispelled, meditating on the Fearless Lord.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhasang har ke gun gaaeaa |1| rahaau |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਨ ਕਵਲ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
charan kaval rid antar dhaare |
I have enshrined the Lotus Feet of the Lord within my heart.
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
agan saagar gur paar utaare |2|
The Guru has carried me across the ocean of fire. ||2||
ਬੂਡਤ ਜਾਤ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢੇ ॥
booddat jaat poorai gur kaadte |
I was sinking down, and the Perfect Guru pulled me out.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਟੂਟੇ ਗਾਢੇ ॥੩॥
janam janam ke ttootte gaadte |3|
I was cut off from the Lord for countless incarnations, and now the Guru united me with Him again. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
kahu naanak tis gur balihaaree |
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the Guru;
ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਗਤਿ ਭਈ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੫੬॥੧੨੫॥
jis bhettat gat bhee hamaaree |4|56|125|
meeting Him, I have been saved. ||4||56||125||
