ਹਮ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਓਜ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
ham tumaro har oj na jaanaa |
ਤੁਮ ਹੋ ਮਹਾ ਤਪੀ ਬਲਵਾਨਾ ॥
tum ho mahaa tapee balavaanaa |
“O Shiva we have not recognized thee, you are supremely mighty and an ascetic.”
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਭਏ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
sunat bachan bhe rudr kripaalaa |
ਅਜਾ ਸੀਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜੋਰਿ ਉਤਾਲਾ ॥੪੮॥
ajaa sees nrip jor utaalaa |48|
Hearing these words, Rudra become gracious and he caused Daksha to become alive again and get up.48.
ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕਾਲ ਕੋ ਧਰਾ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
rudr kaal ko dharaa dhiaanaa |
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜੀਯਾਇ ਨਰੇਸ ਉਠਾਨਾ ॥
bahur jeeyaae nares utthaanaa |
Then Rudra meditated upon the Lord and restored the life of all other kings.
ਰਾਜ ਸੁਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਸਕਲ ਜੀਯਾਏ ॥
raaj sutaa pat sakal jeeyaae |
ਕਉਤਕ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸੰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਏ ॥੪੯॥
kautak nirakh sant tripataae |49|
He restored the life of the husband of all the princesses and seeing this wonderful performance, all the saints were extremely peeased.49.
ਨਾਰਿ ਹੀਨ ਸਿਵ ਕਾਮ ਖਿਝਾਯੋ ॥
naar heen siv kaam khijhaayo |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਭ ਘਨੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
taa te sunbh ghano dukh paayo |
The god of love troubled greatly the god Shiva, who was without his consort, with which Shiva remained in great agony.
ਅਧਿਕ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਕਾਮ ਜਰਾਯਸ ॥
adhik kop kai kaam jaraayas |
ਬਿਤਨ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਤਦਿਨ ਕਹਾਯਸ ॥੫੦॥
bitan naam tih tadin kahaayas |50|
Being extremely vexed, once in great fury, Shiva reduced Kamdev (the god of love) to ashes and from that day this god was called Anang (body-less).50.

ਵਹੁ ਜੋ ਜਰੀ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਰਾ ॥
vahu jo jaree rudr kee daaraa |
ਤਿਨਿ ਹਿਮ ਗਿਰਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਲਿਯ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥
tin him gir grihi liy avataaraa |
After having been burnt and died, the wife of Rudra was born in the house of Himalaya.
ਛੁਟੀ ਬਾਲਤਾ ਜਬ ਸੁਧਿ ਆਈ ॥
chhuttee baalataa jab sudh aaee |
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਾਥ ਕਹੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
bahuro milee naath kahu jaaee |1|
After the end of her childhood, when she attained the age of puberty, she was again united with her Lord Shiva.1.
ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਾਮ ਸੋ ਸੀਤਾ ॥
jih bidh milee raam so seetaa |
ਜੈਸਕ ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਤਨ ਗੀਤਾ ॥
jaisak chatur bed tan geetaa |
Just as Sita, on meeting Rama, became one with him just as Gita and Vedic ideology are one
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਿਲਤ ਸਿੰਧ ਤਨ ਗੰਗਾ ॥
jaise milat sindh tan gangaa |
ਤਿਯੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਈ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
tiyo mil gee rudr kai sangaa |2|
Just as, on meeting the sea, the Ganges becomes one with the sea, in the same manner, Parvati and Shiva became one.2.
ਜਬ ਤਿਹ ਬ︀ਯਾਹਿ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਘਰਿ ਆਨਾ ॥
jab tih bayaeh rudr ghar aanaa |
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਤਾਹਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥
nirakh jalandhar taeh lubhaanaa |
When, after wedding, Rudra brought her to his home, the demon Jalandhar was allured on seeing her
ਦੂਤ ਏਕ ਤਹ ਦੀਯ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
doot ek teh deey patthaaee |
ਲਿਆਉ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਰਿ ਛਿਨਾਈ ॥੩॥
liaau rudr te naar chhinaaee |3|
He sent a messenger , saying this: “Go and bring that women, after seizing her from Rudra.”3.

Jalandhar said :
ਕੈ ਸਿਵ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਕੈ ਮਮ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਦੇਹ ਪਠਾਇ ॥
kai siv naar seegaar kai mam grih deh patthaae |
ਨਾਤਰ ਸੂਲ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਰਹੁ ਮੁਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੪॥
naatar sool sanbhaar ke sang larahu mur aae |4|
Jalandhar told his messenger to say this to Shiva : “O Shiva, either send your bedecked wife to me, or hold up your trident and wage war with me.”4.

ਕਥਾ ਭਈ ਇਹ ਦਿਸ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਾ ॥

ਅਬ ਕਹੋ ਬਿਸਨ ਤ੍ਰੀਯਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
ab kaho bisan treeyaa kee baataa |
How this story occurred? In this context, I relate the story of the wife of Vishnu :
ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦਾਰਿਕ ਦਿਨ ਏਕ ਪਕਾਏ ॥
brindaarik din ek pakaae |
ਦੈਤ ਸਭਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥੫॥
dait sabhaa te bisan bulaae |5|
One day, he cooked the brinjals in her home and at the same time, Vishnu was called by the assembly of demons, where he went.5.
ਆਇ ਗਯੋ ਤਹ ਨਾਰਦ ਰਿਖਿ ਬਰ ॥
aae gayo teh naarad rikh bar |
ਬਿਸਨ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਧਾਮਿ ਛੁਧਾਤੁਰ ॥
bisan naar ke dhaam chhudhaatur |
At the same time, the great sage Narada reached the house of Vishnu and he was very hungry.
ਬੈਗਨ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਲਲਚਾਯੋ ॥
baigan nirakh adhik lalachaayo |
ਮਾਗ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਪਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੬॥
maag rahiyo par haath na aayo |6|
Seeing the cooked vegetable of brinjals, his mind was tempted, but he did not get it even on asking for it.6.
ਨਾਥ ਹੇਤੁ ਮੈ ਭੋਜ ਪਕਾਯੋ ॥
naath het mai bhoj pakaayo |
ਮਨੁਛ ਪਠੈ ਕਰ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥
manuchh patthai kar bisan bulaayo |
The wife of Vishnu said that she had prepared that food for her lord, therefore it was not possible for her to give it, (she also said:) “I have sent a messenger to call him and the may be coming.”
ਨਾਰਦ ਖਾਇ ਜੂਠ ਹੋਇ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥
naarad khaae jootth hoe jai hai |
ਪੀਅ ਕੋਪਿਤ ਹਮਰੇ ਪਰ ਹੁਐ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
peea kopit hamare par huai hai |7|
The wife of Vishnu thought that if Narada partook it the food would become impure and her lord wound be angry with.7.

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਆਪਨ ਤਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਗਰਬਾ ॥
aapan tan nahee jaa ko garabaa |
The body which you are so proud of, does not belong to you.
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਨਹੀ ਆਪਨ ਦਰਬਾ ॥੧॥
raaj milakh nahee aapan darabaa |1|
Power, property and wealth are not yours. ||1||
ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ॥
aapan nahee kaa kau lapattaaeo |
They are not yours, so why do you cling to them?
ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aapan naam satigur te paaeo |1| rahaau |
Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is yours; it is received from the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
sut banitaa aapan nahee bhaaee |
Children, spouse and siblings are not yours.
ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਆਪ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
eisatt meet aap baap na maaee |2|
Dear friends, mother and father are not yours. ||2||
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੂਪਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਦਾਮ ॥
sueinaa roopaa fun nahee daam |
Gold, silver and money are not yours.
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਆਪਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਮ ॥੩॥
haivar gaivar aapan nahee kaam |3|
Fine horses and magnificent elephants are of no use to you. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
kahu naanak jo gur bakhas milaaeaa |
Says Nanak, those whom the Guru forgives, meet with the Lord.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੧੦੬॥
tis kaa sabh kichh jis kaa har raaeaa |4|37|106|
Everything belongs to those who have the Lord as their King. ||4||37||106||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਊਪਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਥੇ ॥
gur ke charan aoopar mere maathe |
I place the Guru's Feet on my forehead,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥
taa te dukh mere sagale laathe |1|
and all my pains are gone. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
satigur apune kau kurabaanee |
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.
ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aatam cheen param rang maanee |1| rahaau |
I have come to understand my soul, and I enjoy supreme bliss. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਣ ਰੇਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
charan ren gur kee mukh laagee |
I have applied the dust of the Guru's Feet to my face,
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੨॥
ahanbudh tin sagal tiaagee |2|
which has removed all my arrogant intellect. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਗੋ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad lago man meetthaa |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has become sweet to my mind,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
paarabraham taa te mohi ddeetthaa |3|
and I behold the Supreme Lord God. ||3||
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
gur sukhadaataa gur karataar |
The Guru is the Giver of peace; the Guru is the Creator.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੧੦੭॥
jeea praan naanak gur aadhaar |4|38|107|
O Nanak, the Guru is the Support of the breath of life and the soul. ||4||38||107||

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਆਹਿ ॥
re man mere toon taa kau aaeh |
O my mind, seek the One,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਊਣਾ ਕਛਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
jaa kai aoonaa kachhahoo naeh |1|
who lacks nothing. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਸਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੀਤ ॥
har saa preetam kar man meet |
Make the Beloved Lord your friend.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਦ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
praan adhaar raakhahu sad cheet |1| rahaau |
Keep Him constantly in your mind; He is the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਿ ॥
re man mere toon taa kau sev |
O my mind, serve Him;
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਦੇਵ ॥੨॥
aad purakh aparanpar dev |2|
He is the Primal Being, the Infinite Divine Lord. ||2||
ਤਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਨ ਕਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਸਾ ॥
tis aoopar man kar toon aasaa |
Place your hopes in the One
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
aad jugaad jaa kaa bharavaasaa |3|
who is the Support of all beings, from the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages. ||3||
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaa kee preet sadaa sukh hoe |
His Love brings eternal peace;
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੧੦੮॥
naanak gaavai gur mil soe |4|39|108|
meeting the Guru, Nanak sings His Glorious Praises. ||4||39||108||

ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਹਮ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
meet karai soee ham maanaa |
Whatever my Friend does, I accept.
ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
meet ke karatab kusal samaanaa |1|
My Friend's actions are pleasing to me. ||1||
ਏਕਾ ਟੇਕ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤ ॥
ekaa ttek merai man cheet |
Within my conscious mind, the One Lord is my only Support.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jis kichh karanaa su hamaraa meet |1| rahaau |
One who does this is my Friend. ||1||Pause||
ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
meet hamaaraa veparavaahaa |
My Friend is Carefree.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਸਨਾਹਾ ॥੨॥
gur kirapaa te mohi asanaahaa |2|
By Guru's Grace, I give my love to Him. ||2||
ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
meet hamaaraa antarajaamee |
My Friend is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੩॥
samarath purakh paarabraham suaamee |3|
He is the All-powerful Being, the Supreme Lord and Master. ||3||
ਹਮ ਦਾਸੇ ਤੁਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
ham daase tum tthaakur mere |
I am Your servant; You are my Lord and Master.
ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੪॥੪੦॥੧੦੯॥
maan mehat naanak prabh tere |4|40|109|
