ਗਰਜਤ ਰਣਿ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਕੇ ਭਜੇ ਸੂਰ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

Many warriors fled on the thunder of Narsingh and none could stand in battlefield except Hiranayakashipu.34.

ਮੁਸਟ ਜੁਧ ਜੁਟੇ ਭਟ ਦੋਊ ॥

teesar taeh na pekheeat koaoo |
The war with fists of both the warriors began and none other except those two could be seen in the battlefield.
ਭਏ ਦੁਹੁਨ ਕੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਨੈਣਾ ॥
bhe duhun ke raate nainaa |
ਦੇਖਤ ਦੇਵ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਗੈਣਾ ॥੩੫॥
dekhat dev tamaase gainaa |35|
The eyes of both had become red and all the groups of gods were seeing this performance form the sky.35.
ਅਸਟ ਦਿਵਸ ਅਸਟੇ ਨਿਸਿ ਜੁਧਾ ॥
asatt divas asatte nis judhaa |
ਕੀਨੋ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਭਟਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਾ ॥
keeno duhoon bhattan mil krudhaa |
For eight days and eight nights both these brave heroes, furiously, waged the dreadful war.
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਅਸੁਰ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੁ ਮੁਰਝਾਨਾ ॥
bahuro asur kichh ku murajhaanaa |
ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਮਿ ਜਨੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ॥੩੬॥
giriyo bhoom jan brichh puraanaa |36|
After this, the demon-king felt weakness and fell down on the earth like an old tree.36.
ਸੀਚਿ ਬਾਰਿ ਪੁਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਗਾਯੋ ॥
seech baar pun taeh jagaayo |
ਜਗੋ ਮੂਰਛਨਾ ਪੁਨਿ ਜੀਯ ਆਯੋ ॥
jago moorachhanaa pun jeey aayo |
Narsingh sprinkled ambrosia and woke him up from the unconscious state and he become alert after coming out of the state of unconsciousness.
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਭਿਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਦੋਈ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਾ ॥
bahuro bhire soor doee krudhaa |
ਮੰਡਿਯੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਆਪ ਮਹਿ ਜੁਧਾ ॥੩੭॥
manddiyo bahur aap meh judhaa |37|
Both the heroes began to fight again furiously and a dreadful war began again.37.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਹਲਾ ਚਾਲ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਪੁਨਰ ਬੀਰ ਢੂਕੇ ॥
halaa chaal kai kai punar beer dtooke |
ਮਚਿਯੋ ਜੁਧ ਜਿਯੋ ਕਰਨ ਸੰਗੰ ਘੜੂਕੇ ॥
machiyo judh jiyo karan sangan gharrooke |
After challenging each other, both the heroes began to fight again, and a dreadful war ensued between them for gaining victory over the other.
ਨਖੰ ਪਾਤ ਦੋਊ ਕਰੇ ਦੈਤ ਘਾਤੰ ॥
nakhan paat doaoo kare dait ghaatan |
ਮਨੋ ਗਜ ਜੁਟੇ ਬਨੰ ਮਸਤਿ ਮਾਤੰ ॥੩੮॥
mano gaj jutte banan masat maatan |38|
Both of them were giving destructive blows to one another with their nails and appeared like two intoxicated elephants fighting each other in the forest.38.
ਪੁਨਰ ਨਰਸਿੰਘੰ ਧਰਾ ਤਾਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
punar narasinghan dharaa taeh maariyo |
ਪੁਰਾਨੋ ਪਲਾਸੀ ਮਨੋ ਬਾਇ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
puraano palaasee mano baae ddaariyo |
Narsingh again threw Hiranayakashipu on the earth just as the old Palas tree (Butea frondosa) falls down on the earth with a gust of wind.
ਹਨ︀ਯੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੁਸਟੰ ਭਈ ਪੁਹਪ ਬਰਖੰ ॥
hanayo dekh dusattan bhee puhap barakhan |
ਕੀਏ ਦੇਵਤਿਯੋ ਆਨ ਕੈ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਖੰ ॥੩੯॥
kee devatiyo aan kai jeet karakhan |39|
Seeing that tyrants hath died, sang many types of songs of victory.39.

PAADHARI STANZA
ਕੀਨੋ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਦੁਸਟੰ ਸੰਘਾਰ ॥
keeno narasingh dusattan sanghaar |
ਧਰਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਬਿਸਨ ਸਪਤਮ ਵਤਾਰ ॥
dhariyo su bisan sapatam vataar |
Narsingh destroyed the tyrant and in this way Vishnu manifested his seventh incarnation.
ਲਿਨੋ ਸੁ ਭਗਤ ਅਪਨੋ ਛਿਨਾਇ ॥
lino su bhagat apano chhinaae |
ਸਬ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮਨ ਚਲਾਇ ॥੪੦॥
sab sisatt dharam karaman chalaae |40|
He protected his devotee and spread righteousness on the earth.40.
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਫੇਰਿ ॥
prahalaad kariyo nrip chhatr fer |
ਦੀਨੋ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਸਬ ਇਮ ਅੰਧੇਰ ॥
deeno sanghaar sab im andher |
The canopy was swung over the head of Prahlad and he was made a king, and in this way, the demons, who were darkness-incarnate, were destroyed.
ਸਬ ਦੁਸਟ ਅਰਿਸਟ ਦਿਨੇ ਖਪਾਇ ॥
sab dusatt arisatt dine khapaae |
ਪੁਨਿ ਲਈ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪੧॥
pun lee jot joteh milaae |41|
Destroying all the tyrants and vicious people, Narsingh merged his light in the Supreme Light.41.
ਸਭ ਦੁਸਟ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਅਭੇਖ ॥
sabh dusatt maar keene abhekh |
By killing them, all the tyrants were put to shame,
ਪੁਨ ਮਿਲ︀ਯੋ ਜਾਇ ਭੀਤਰ ਅਲੇਖ ॥
pun milayo jaae bheetar alekh |
And that Imperceptible Lord-God merged again in His Own Self.
ਕਬਿ ਜਥਾਮਤਿ ਕਥ︀ਯੋ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ॥
kab jathaamat kathayo bichaar |
The poet, according to his own understanding, after reflection, hath uttered the above-mentioned saying,
ਇਮ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਸਪਤਮ ਵਤਾਰ ॥੪੨॥
eim dhariyo bisan sapatam vataar |42|
That in this way, Vishnu manifested himself in his seventh incarnation.42.

ਭਏ ਦਿਵਸ ਕੇਤੈ ਨਰਸਿੰਘਾਵਤਾਰੰ ॥
bhe divas ketai narasinghaavataaran |
ਪੁਨਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਮੋ ਪਾਪਾ ਬਾਢ︀ਯੋ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
punar bhoom mo paapaa baadtayo apaaran |
After passing away of the epoch of Narsingh incarnation, the sins began to grow in intensity on the earth again.
ਕਰੇ ਲਾਗ ਜਗੰ ਪੁਨਰ ਦੈਤ ਦਾਨੰ ॥
kare laag jagan punar dait daanan |
ਬਲਿ ਰਾਜ ਕੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਗੁਮਾਨੰ ॥੧॥
bal raaj kee dehi badtiyo gumaanan |1|
The demons began to perform Yajnsas (sacrificial rituals) again and the king Bali became proud of his greatness.1.
ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਲੰ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਜਗ ਬਾਸੰ ॥
n paavai balan devataa jag baasan |
ਭਈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਬਿਨਾਸੰ ॥
bhee indr kee raajadhaanee binaasan |
There was no position of gods in the Yajnas of king Bali and the capital of Indra was also destroyed.
ਕਰੀ ਜੋਗ ਅਰਾਧਨਾ ਸਰਬ ਦੇਵੰ ॥
karee jog araadhanaa sarab devan |
ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੰ ਭਏ ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੰ ਅਭੇਵੰ ॥੨॥
prasanan bhe kaal purakhan abhevan |2|
In great agony, all the gods meditated on the Lord, by which the Supreme Destroyer Purusha was pleased.2.
ਦੀਯੋ ਆਇਸੰ ਕਾਲਪੁਰਖੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
deeyo aaeisan kaalapurakhan apaaran |
ਧਰੋ ਬਾਵਨਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਅਸਟਮ ਵਤਾਰੰ ॥
dharo baavanaa bisan asattam vataaran |
The Non-temporal Lord asked Vishnu out of all gods to assume his eighth manifestation in the form of Vaman incarnation.
ਲਈ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਆਗਿਆ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਧਾਇ ਐਸੇ ॥
lee bisan aagiaa chaliyo dhaae aise |
ਲਹਿਯੋ ਦਾਰਦੀ ਭੂਪ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੩॥
lahiyo daaradee bhoop bhanddaar jaise |3|
Vishnu after seeking permission of the Lord, moved like a servant at the command of a king.3.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਹੁ ਨਸੀਐ ॥
mere man so prabh sadaa naal hai suaamee kahu kithai har pahu naseeai |
O my mind, God is always with you; He is your Lord and Master. Tell me, where could you run to get away from the Lord?
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ॥੧॥
har aape bakhas le prabh saachaa har aap chhaddaae chhutteeai |1|
The True Lord God Himself grants forgiveness; we are emancipated only when the Lord Himself emancipates us. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਜਪੀਐ ॥
mere man jap har har har man japeeai |
O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har - chant it in your mind.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੀਛੈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur kee saranaaee bhaj pau mere manaa gur satigur peechhai chhutteeai |1| rahaau |
Quickly now, run to the Sanctuary of the True Guru, O my mind; following the Guru, the True Guru, you shall be saved. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੀਐ ॥
mere man sevahu so prabh srab sukhadaataa jit seviai nij ghar vaseeai |
O my mind, serve God, the Giver of all peace; serving Him, you shall come to dwell in your own home deep within.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਇ ਲਹਹੁ ਘਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਘਸਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਘਸੀਐ ॥੨॥
guramukh jaae lahahu ghar apanaa ghas chandan har jas ghaseeai |2|
As Gurmukh, go and enter your own home; anoint yourself with the sandalwood oil of the Lord's Praises. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਹਸੀਐ ॥
mere man har har har har har jas aootam lai laahaa har man haseeai |
O my mind, the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har, are exalted and sublime. Earn the profit of the Lord's Name, and let your mind be happy.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਖੀਐ ॥੩॥
har har aap deaa kar devai taa amrit har ras chakheeai |3|
If the Lord, Har, Har, in His Mercy, bestows it, then we partake of the ambrosial essence of the Lord's Name. ||3||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਜਮਿ ਘੁਟੀਐ ॥
mere man naam binaa jo doojai laage te saakat nar jam ghutteeai |
O my mind, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and attached to duality, those faithless cynics are strangled by the Messenger of Death.
ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਚੋਰ ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੀਐ ॥੪॥
te saakat chor jinaa naam visaariaa man tin kai nikatt na bhitteeai |4|
Such faithless cynics, who have forgotten the Naam, are thieves. O my mind, do not even go near them. ||4||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਲੇਖਾ ਛੁਟੀਐ ॥
mere man sevahu alakh niranjan narahar jit seviai lekhaa chhutteeai |
O my mind, serve the Unknowable and Immaculate Lord, the Man-lion; serving Him, your account will be cleared.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀਏ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਾਸਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਨ ਘਟੀਐ ॥੫॥੫॥੧੯॥੫੭॥
jan naanak har prabh poore kee khin maasaa tol na ghatteeai |5|5|19|57|
The Lord God has made servant Nanak perfect; he is not diminished by even the tiniest particle. ||5||5||19||57||

ਹਮਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
hamare praan vasagat prabh tumarai meraa jeeo pindd sabh teree |
My breath of life is in Your Power, God; my soul and body are totally Yours.
ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਚ ਘਣੇਰੀ ॥੧॥
deaa karahu har daras dikhaavahu merai man tan loch ghaneree |1|
Be merciful to me, and show me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. There is such a great longing within my mind and body! ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਚ ਮਿਲਣ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
raam merai man tan loch milan har keree |
O my Lord, there is such a great longing within my mind and body to meet the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਿੰਚਤ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kripaal kripaa kinchat gur keenee har miliaa aae prabh meree |1| rahaau |
When the Guru, the Merciful Guru, showed just a little mercy to me, my Lord God came and met me. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਹਮਰੈ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
jo hamarai man chit hai suaamee saa bidh tum har jaanahu meree |
Whatever is in my conscious mind, O Lord and Master - that condition of mine is known only to You, Lord.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਵਾ ਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੨॥
anadin naam japee sukh paaee nit jeevaa aas har teree |2|
Night and day, I chant Your Name, and I find peace. I live by placing my hopes in You, Lord. ||2||
ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਾਤੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
gur satigur daatai panth bataaeaa har miliaa aae prabh meree |
The Guru, the True Guru, the Giver, has shown me the Way; my Lord God came and met me.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਭ ਆਸ ਪੁਜੀ ਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥੩॥
anadin anad bheaa vaddabhaagee sabh aas pujee jan keree |3|
Night and day, I am filled with bliss; by great good fortune, all of the hopes of His humble servant have been fulfilled. ||3||
ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਸਭ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
jaganaath jagadeesur karate sabh vasagat hai har keree |
O Lord of the World, Master of the Universe, everything is under Your control.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਆਏ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੨੦॥੫੮॥
jan naanak saranaagat aae har raakhahu paij jan keree |4|6|20|58|
Servant Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary, Lord; please, preserve the honor of Your humble servant. ||4||6||20||58||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਦਹ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਹਾਢੇ ॥
eihu manooaa khin na ttikai bahu rangee deh deh dis chal chal haadte |
This mind does not hold still, even for an instant. Distracted by all sorts of distractions, it wanders around aimlessly in the ten directions.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਠਾਢੇ ॥੧॥
gur pooraa paaeaa vaddabhaagee har mantru deea man tthaadte |1|
I have found the Perfect Guru, through great good fortune; He has given me the Mantra of the Lord's Name, and my mind has become quiet and tranquil. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਾਂਢੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam ham satigur laale kaandte |1| rahaau |
O Lord, I am the slave of the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਹਮਰੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਦਾਗੁ ਦਗਾਨਾ ਹਮ ਕਰਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਢੇ ॥
hamarai masatak daag dagaanaa ham karaj guroo bahu saadte |
My forehead has been branded with His brand; I owe such a great debt to the Guru.
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਭਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਢੇ ॥੨॥
praupakaar pun bahu keea bhau dutar taar paraadte |2|
He has been so generous and kind to me; He has carried me across the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean. ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੂਰੇ ਗਾਢਨ ਗਾਢੇ ॥
jin kau preet ridai har naahee tin koore gaadtan gaadte |
Those who do not have love for the Lord within their hearts, harbor only false intentions and goals.
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਰਭਿ ਗਲਾਢੇ ॥੩॥
jiau paanee kaagad binas jaat hai tiau manamukh garabh galaadte |3|
As paper breaks down and dissolves in water, the self-willed manmukh wastes away in arrogant pride. ||3||
ਹਮ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਠਾਢੇ ॥
ham jaaniaa kachhoo na jaanah aagai jiau har raakhai tiau tthaadte |
I know nothing, and I do not know the future; as the Lord keeps me, so do I stand.
ਹਮ ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਤਰੇ ਕਾਢੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੧॥੫੯॥
ham bhool chook gur kirapaa dhaarahu jan naanak kutare kaadte |4|7|21|59|
For my failings and mistakes, O Guru, grant me Your Grace; servant Nanak is Your obedient dog. ||4||7||21||59||
