ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੀਯੋ ਦਿਵਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ॥
eih bhaat keeyo divaraaj raaj |
ਭੰਡਾਰ ਭਰੇ ਸੁਭ ਸਰਬ ਸਾਜ ॥
bhanddaar bhare subh sarab saaj |
In this way, Indra, the king of gods ruled and filled the granaries of materials through all modes
ਜਬ ਦੇਵਤਾਨ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਗਰੂਰ ॥
jab devataan badtiyo garoor |
ਬਲਵੰਤ ਦੈਤ ਉਠੇ ਕਰੂਰ ॥੧॥
balavant dait utthe karoor |1|
When the pride of the gods grew enormously, then in order toshelve their pride, the hard-hearted mighty demons rose again.1.
ਲਿਨੋ ਛਿਨਾਇ ਦਿਵਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ॥
lino chhinaae divaraaj raaj |
ਬਾਜਿਤ੍ਰ ਨੇਕ ਉਠੇ ਸੁ ਬਾਜਿ ॥
baajitr nek utthe su baaj |
The kingdom of Indra was seized and this proclamation was made on all sides with the accompaniment of many musical instruments,
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਜਗਤਿ ਦੋਹੀ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥
eih bhaat jagat dohee firaae |
ਜਲੰ ਬਾ ਥਲੇਅੰ ਹਿਰਿਨਾਛ ਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
jalan baa thalean hirinaachh raae |2|
That Hiranayakashipu is the emperor at all the places.2.
ਇਕ ਦ︀ਯੋਸ ਗਯੋ ਨਿਜ ਨਾਰਿ ਤੀਰ ॥
eik dayos gayo nij naar teer |
ਸਜਿ ਸੁਧ ਸਾਜ ਨਿਜ ਅੰਗਿ ਬੀਰ ॥
saj sudh saaj nij ang beer |
One day, this mighty ruler, bedecking himself, went to his wife,
ਕਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸ੍ਵਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮੋ ਭਯੋ ਨਿਰੁਕਤ ॥
kih bhaat svatriy mo bhayo nirukat |
ਤਬ ਭਯੋ ਦੁਸਟ ਕੋ ਬੀਰਜ ਮੁਕਤ ॥੩॥
tab bhayo dusatt ko beeraj mukat |3|
And absorbed himself with her so intensely that at the time of his intercourse, his semen was discharged.3.
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਭਗਤ ਲੀਨੋ ਵਤਾਰ ॥
prahalaad bhagat leeno vataar |
ਸਬ ਕਰਨਿ ਕਾਜ ਸੰਤਨ ਉਧਾਰ ॥
sab karan kaaj santan udhaar |
From that semen Prahlad was born in order to help nad protect the saints.
ਚਟਸਾਰ ਪੜਨਿ ਸਉਪ︀ਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
chattasaar parran saupayo nripaal |
ਪਟੀਯਹਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੈ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥੪॥
patteeyeh kahiyo likh dai gupaal |4|
When the king sent him to school for education, he asked his teacher to write the Name of Lord-God on his tablet.4.

ਇਕਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਯੋ ਚਟਸਾਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ॥
eik divas gayo chattasaar nripan |
ਚਿਤਿ ਚੌਕ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਭਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਤੰ ॥
chit chauak rahiyo subh dekh sutan |
One day the king went to the school and seeing his son, he was startled.
ਜੋ ਪੜਿਯੋ ਦਿਜ ਤੇ ਸੁਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਰੜੋ ॥
jo parriyo dij te sun taeh rarro |
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਸਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਪੜੋ ॥੫॥
nirabhai sis naam gupaal parro |5|
When the king asked, the child told whatever he had learnt and fearlessly began to read the Name of Lord-God.5.
ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਰਿਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਅਸੁਰੰ ॥
sun naam gupaal risrayo asuran |
ਬਿਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਭਜੋ ਦੁਸਰੰ ॥
bin mohi su kaun bhajo dusaran |
On hearing the Name of Lord-God, the demon became furious and said, “Who else is there except me on whom you are meditating?”
ਜੀਯ ਮਾਹਿ ਧਰੋ ਸਿਸੁ ਯਾਹਿ ਹਨੋ ॥
jeey maeh dharo sis yaeh hano |
ਜੜ ਕਿਉ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ਭਨੋ ॥੬॥
jarr kiau bhagavaan ko naam bhano |6|
He decided to kill this student and said, “O fool why are you repeating the name of Lord-God?”6.
ਜਲ ਅਉਰ ਥਲੰ ਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਮਨੰ ॥
jal aaur thalan ik beer manan |
ਇਹ ਕਾਹਿ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਨੰ ॥
eih kaeh gupaal ko naam bhanan |
“Only Hiranayakashipu is considered the mithty-one in water and on land , then why are you repeating the name of Lord-God”?
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਧਤ ਥੰਮ ਭਏ ॥
tab hee tih baadhat tham bhe |
ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਦਾਨਵ ਬੈਨ ਧਏ ॥੭॥
sun sravanan daanav bain dhe |7|
Then, as commanded by the king, the demons tied him with the column.7.
ਗਹਿ ਮੂੜ ਚਲੇ ਸਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥
geh moorr chale sis maaran ko |
ਨਿਕਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਬ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਉਬਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥
nikasrayo b gupaal ubaaran ko |
When those foolish persons advanced to kill this student, the Lord manifested Himself at the same time in order to protect His disciple.
ਚਕਚਉਧ ਰਹੇ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਬੈ ॥
chakchaudh rahe jan dekh sabai |
ਨਿਕਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਫਾਰਿ ਕਿਵਾਰ ਜਬੈ ॥੮॥
nikasrayo har faar kivaar jabai |8|
Al those who saw the Lord at that time were astonished, the Lord had manifested Himself by tearing off the doors.8
ਲਖਿ ਦੇਵ ਦਿਵਾਰ ਸਬੈ ਥਹਰੇ ॥
lakh dev divaar sabai thahare |
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਚਰਾਚਰ ਹੂੰਹਿ ਹਿਰੇ ॥
avilok charaachar hoonhi hire |
Seeing Him, all the gods and demons trembled and all the animate and inanimate objects became fearful in their bearts
ਗਰਜੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਨਰਾਤ ਕਰੰ ॥
garaje narasingh naraat karan |
ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਰਤ ਕੀਏ ਮੁਖ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਭਰੰ ॥੯॥
drig rat kee mukh sron bharan |9|
The Lord in the form of Narsingh (man-lion), with red eyes and the mouth filled with blood, thundered dreadfully.9.
ਲਖਿ ਦਾਨਵ ਭਾਜ ਚਲੇ ਸਬ ਹੀ ॥
lakh daanav bhaaj chale sab hee |
ਗਰਜਿਯੋ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰਣੰ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
garajiyo narasingh ranan jab hee |
Seeing this and hearing the thunder of Narsingh all the demons fled
ਇਕ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਣ ਮੈ ॥
eik bhoopat tthaadt rahiyo ran mai |
ਗਹਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਗਦਾ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥੧੦॥
geh haath gadaa nirabhai man mai |10|
Only the Emperor, fearlessly holding his mace in his hand, stood firmly in that battlefield.10.
ਲਰਜੇ ਸਬ ਸੂਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ਗਰਜੇ ॥
laraje sab soor nripan garaje |
ਸਮੁਹਾਤ ਭਏ ਭਟ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਕੇ ॥
samuhaat bhe bhatt kehar ke |
When the Emperor roared loudly, then all the brave warriors trembled and all those warriors came forward in groups before that lion.
ਜੁ ਗਏ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਛਿਤ ਤੈ ਪਟਕੇ ॥
ju ge samuhe chhit tai pattake |
ਰਣਿ ਭੈ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਬਟਾ ਨਟ ਕੇ ॥੧੧॥
ran bhai ranadheer battaa natt ke |11|
All those who went in front of Narsingh, He caught hold of all those warriors like a juggler and knocked them down of the ground.11.
ਬਬਕੇ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਘਣੇ ॥
babake ranadheer su beer ghane |
ਰਹਿਗੇ ਮਨੋ ਕਿੰਸਕ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਸਣੇ ॥
rahige mano kinsak sron sane |
The warriors shouted loudly at one another and saturated with blood began to fall.
ਉਮਗੇ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਤੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਯੌ ॥
aumage chahoon oran te rip yau |
ਬਰਸਾਤਿ ਬਹਾਰਨ ਅਭ੍ਰਨ ਜਿਯੋ ॥੧੨॥
barasaat bahaaran abhran jiyo |12|
The enemies advanced from all the four sides with such intensity like the clouds in the rainy season.12.
ਬਰਖੈ ਸਰ ਸੁਧ ਸਿਲਾ ਸਿਤਿਯੰ ॥
barakhai sar sudh silaa sitiyan |
ਉਮਡੇ ਬਰਬੀਰ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸਿਯੰ ॥
aumadde barabeer daso disiyan |
Advancing from all the ten directions, the warriors began to shower the arrows and stones
ਚਮਕੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣ ਸੁ ਬਾਣ ਜੁਧੰ ॥
chamakant kripaan su baan judhan |
ਫਹਰੰਤ ਧੁਜਾ ਜਨੁ ਬੀਰ ਕ੍ਰੁਧੰ ॥੧੩॥
faharant dhujaa jan beer krudhan |13|
The swords and arrows glistened in the war-field and the brave fighters began to flutter their flags.13.
ਹਹਰੰਤ ਹਠੀ ਬਰਖੰਤ ਸਰੰ ॥
haharant hatthee barakhant saran |
The persistent warriors with loud shouts are showering a volley of arrows in this way,
ਜਨੁ ਸਾਵਨ ਮੇਘ ਬੁਠਿਯੋ ਦੁਸਰੰ ॥
jan saavan megh butthiyo dusaran |
As if it is the second cloudburst in the mont of Swan
ਫਰਹੰਤ ਧੁਜਾ ਹਹਰੰਤ ਹਯੰ ॥
farahant dhujaa haharant hayan |
The flags are fluttering and the horses are neighing
ਉਪਜਿਯੋ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨਵ ਰਾਇ ਭਯੰ ॥੧੪॥
aupajiyo jeea daanav raae bhayan |14|
And seeing all this scene, the heart of the demon-king was filled with fear.14.
ਹਿਹਨਾਤ ਹਯੰ ਗਰਜੰਤ ਗਜੰ ॥
hihanaat hayan garajant gajan |
The horses are neighing and the elephants are roaring
ਭਟ ਬਾਹ ਕਟੀ ਜਨੁ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਧੁਜੰ ॥
bhatt baah kattee jan indr dhujan |
The chopped long arms of the warriors look like the flag of Indra
ਤਰਫੰਤ ਭਟੰ ਗਰਜੰ ਗਜੰ ॥
tarafant bhattan garajan gajan |
The warriors are writhing and the elephants are roaring in such a way,
ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਾਵਣ ਮੇਘ ਲਜੰ ॥੧੫॥
sun kai dhun saavan megh lajan |15|
That the clouds of the month of Sawan are feeling shy.15.
ਬਿਚਲ੍ਰਯੋ ਪਗ ਦ੍ਵੈਕੁ ਫਿਰਿਯੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਜਿਯੋ ॥
bichalrayo pag dvaik firiyo pun jiyo |
As soon as the horse of Hiranayakashipu turned a little, he himself deviated and retraced two steps
ਕਰਿ ਪੁੰਛ ਲਗੇ ਅਹਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਤ ਜਿਯੋ ॥
kar punchh lage eh krudhat jiyo |
But still he was infuriated in the manner of the snake who gets infuriated when its tail is crushed by a foot
ਰਣਰੰਗ ਸਮੈ ਮੁਖ ਯੋ ਚਮਕ︀ਯੋ ॥
ranarang samai mukh yo chamakayo |
His face was shining in the battlefield,
ਲਖਿ ਸੂਰ ਸਰੋਰਹੁ ਸੋ ਦਮਕ੍ਰਯੋ ॥੧੬॥
lakh soor sarorahu so damakrayo |16|
Like the blossoming of the lotus on seeing the sun.16.
ਰਣ ਰੰਗ ਤੁਰੰਗਨ ਐਸ ਭਯੋ ॥
ran rang turangan ais bhayo |
ਸਿਵ ਧਿਆਨ ਛੁਟ੍ਰਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ॥
siv dhiaan chhuttrayo brahamandd giriyo |
The horses are moving in so much intoxication and creating noise that the attention of Shiva was dissolved, And it seemed that the universe had been displaced
ਸਰ ਸੇਲ ਸਿਲਾ ਸਿਤ ਐਸ ਬਹੇ ॥
sar sel silaa sit ais bahe |
ਨਭ ਅਉਰ ਧਰਾ ਦੋਊ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ॥੧੭॥
nabh aaur dharaa doaoo poor rahe |17|
The arrows, daggers and stones were flying and filling both the earth and the sky.17.
ਗਣ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੋਊ ਹਰਖੇ ॥
gan gandhrab dekh doaoo harakhe |
ਪੁਹਪਾਵਲਿ ਦੇਵ ਸਭੈ ਬਰਖੇ ॥
puhapaaval dev sabhai barakhe |
The Ganas and Gandharvas, seeing both, were pleased and the gods showered flowers.
ਮਿਲ ਗੇ ਭਟ ਆਪ ਬਿਖੈ ਦੋਊ ਯੋ ॥
mil ge bhatt aap bikhai doaoo yo |
ਸਿਸ ਖੇਲਤ ਰੈਣਿ ਹੁਡੂਹੁਡ ਜਿਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
sis khelat rain huddoohudd jiyo |18|
Two warriors were fighting with each other like the children competing with one another in their play during the night.18.
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
gaurree guaareree mahalaa 4 |
Gauree Bairaagan, Fourth Mehl:
ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਇ ॥
kirasaanee kirasaan kare lochai jeeo laae |
The farmers love to work their farms;
ਹਲੁ ਜੋਤੈ ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁਤੁ ਧੀ ਖਾਇ ॥
hal jotai udam kare meraa put dhee khaae |
they plow and work the fields, so that their sons and daughters may eat.
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੧॥
tiau har jan har har jap kare har ant chhaddaae |1|
In just the same way, the Lord's humble servants chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and in the end, the Lord shall save them. ||1||
ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mai moorakh kee gat keejai mere raam |
I am foolish - save me, O my Lord!
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ਹਮ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur satigur sevaa har laae ham kaam |1| rahaau |
O Lord, enjoin me to work and serve the Guru, the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਲੈ ਤੁਰੇ ਸਉਦਾਗਰੀ ਸਉਦਾਗਰੁ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
lai ture saudaagaree saudaagar dhaavai |
The traders buy horses, planning to trade them.
ਧਨੁ ਖਟੈ ਆਸਾ ਕਰੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਵੈ ॥
dhan khattai aasaa karai maaeaa mohu vadhaavai |
They hope to earn wealth; their attachment to Maya increases.
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
tiau har jan har har bolataa har bol sukh paavai |2|
In just the same way, the Lord's humble servants chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; chanting the Lord's Name, they find peace. ||2||
ਬਿਖੁ ਸੰਚੈ ਹਟਵਾਣੀਆ ਬਹਿ ਹਾਟਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
bikh sanchai hattavaaneea beh haatt kamaae |
The shop-keepers collect poison, sitting in their shops, carrying on their business.
ਮੋਹ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠ ਕਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
moh jhootth pasaaraa jhootth kaa jhootthe lapattaae |
Their love is false, their displays are false, and they are engrossed in falsehood.
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
tiau har jan har dhan sanchiaa har kharach lai jaae |3|
In just the same way, the Lord's humble servants gather the wealth of the Lord's Name; they take the Lord's Name as their supplies. ||3||
ਇਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਫਾਸ ॥
eihu maaeaa moh kuttanb hai bhaae doojai faas |
This emotional attachment to Maya and family, and the love of duality, is a noose around the neck.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥
guramatee so jan tarai jo daasan daas |
Following the Guru's Teachings, the humble servants are carried across; they become the slaves of the Lord's slaves.
ਜਨਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥੪੭॥
jan naanak naam dhiaaeaa guramukh paragaas |4|3|9|47|
Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam; the Gurmukh is enlightened. ||4||3||9||47||
ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
gaurree bairaagan mahalaa 4 |
Gauree Bairaagan, Fourth Mehl:
ਨਿਤ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
nit dinas raat laalach kare bharamai bharamaaeaa |
Continuously, day and night, they are gripped by greed and deluded by doubt.
ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਵੇਗਾਰੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ॥
vegaar firai vegaareea sir bhaar utthaaeaa |
The slaves labor in slavery, carrying the loads upon their heads.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
jo gur kee jan sevaa kare so ghar kai kam har laaeaa |1|
That humble being who serves the Guru is put to work by the Lord in His Home. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਤੋੜਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
mere raam torr bandhan maaeaa ghar kai kam laae |
O my Lord, please break these bonds of Maya, and put me to work in Your Home.
ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nit har gun gaavah har naam samaae |1| rahaau |
I continuously sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; I am absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਨਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਰੇ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
nar praanee chaakaree kare narapat raaje arath sabh maaeaa |
Mortal men work for kings, all for the sake of wealth and Maya.
ਕੈ ਬੰਧੈ ਕੈ ਡਾਨਿ ਲੇਇ ਕੈ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
kai bandhai kai ddaan lee kai narapat mar jaaeaa |
But the king either imprisons them, or fines them, or else dies himself.
ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
dhan dhan sevaa safal satiguroo kee jit har har naam jap har sukh paaeaa |2|
Blessed, rewarding and fruitful is the service of the True Guru; through it, I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and I have found peace. ||2||
ਨਿਤ ਸਉਦਾ ਸੂਦੁ ਕੀਚੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
nit saudaa sood keechai bahu bhaat kar maaeaa kai taaee |
Everyday, people carry on their business, with all sorts of devices to earn interest, for the sake of Maya.
ਜਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਦੇਇ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨੇ ਤੋਟੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
jaa laahaa dee taa sukh mane tottai mar jaaee |
If they earn a profit, they are pleased, but their hearts are broken by losses.
ਜੋ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
jo gun saajhee gur siau kare nit nit sukh paaee |3|
One who is worthy, becomes a partner with the Guru, and finds a lasting peace forever. ||3||
ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੂਖ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਸਾਦ ਹੈ ਤਿਤਨੀ ਭੂਖ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jitanee bhookh an ras saad hai titanee bhookh fir laagai |
The more one feels hunger for other tastes and pleasures, the more this hunger persists.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਵੇਚੇ ਸਿਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ॥
jis har aap kripaa kare so veche sir gur aagai |
Those unto whom the Lord Himself shows mercy, sell their head to the Guru.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੮॥
jan naanak har ras tripatiaa fir bhookh na laagai |4|4|10|48|
Servant Nanak is satisfied by the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. He shall never feel hungry again. ||4||4||10||48||
