ਬਾਰਿਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਹਿਣੈ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਖੁ ਜੋਵੈ ॥
baarij kar daahinai sidh sanamukh mukh jovai |
On His right hand is the sign of the lotus; the Siddhis, the supernatural spiritual powers, await His Command.
ਰਿਧਿ ਬਸੈ ਬਾਂਵਾਂਗਿ ਜੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕਾਂਤਰ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
ridh basai baanvaang ju teen lokaantar mohai |
On His left are worldly powers, which fascinate the three worlds.
ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੈ ਅਕਹੀਉ ਸੋਇ ਰਸੁ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਉ ॥
ridai basai akaheeo soe ras tin hee jaatau |
The Inexpressible Lord abides in His Heart; He alone knows this joy.
ਮੁਖਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਉਚਰੈ ਅਮਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਉ ॥
mukhahu bhagat ucharai amar gur it rang raatau |
Guru Amar Daas utters the words of devotion, imbued with the Love of the Lord.
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਸਚਉ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਲੵ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰ ਧੵਾਇਅਉ ॥
masatak neesaan schau karam kalay jorr kar dhayaaeaau |
On His forehead is the true insignia of the Lord's Mercy; with his palms pressed together, KALL meditates on Him.
ਪਰਸਿਅਉ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਸਰਬ ਇਛ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਅਉ ॥੯॥
parasiaau guroo satigur tilak sarab ichh tin paaeaau |9|
Whoever meets with the Guru, the certified True Guru, has all his desires fulfilled. ||9||
ਚਰਣ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਚਰਣ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਪਵਲਿ ਰਯ ॥
charan ta par sakayath charan gur amar paval ray |
Supremely fruitful are the feet which walk upon the path of Guru Amar Daas.
ਹਥ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਹਥ ਲਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਪਯ ॥
hath ta par sakayath hath lageh gur amar pay |
Supremely fruitful are the hands which touch the feet of Guru Amar Daas.
ਜੀਹ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਜੀਹ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰੁ ਭਣਿਜੈ ॥
jeeh ta par sakayath jeeh gur amar bhanijai |
Supremely fruitful is the tongue which utters the praises of Guru Amar Daas.
ਨੈਣ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਨਯਣਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਪਿਖਿਜੈ ॥
nain ta par sakayath nayan gur amar pikhijai |
Supremely fruitful are the eyes which behold Guru Amar Daas.
ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਤ ਪਰ ਸਕਯਥ ਸ੍ਰਵਣਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਸੁਣਿਜੈ ॥
sravan ta par sakayath sravan gur amar sunijai |
Supremely fruitful are the ears which hear the Praises of Guru Amar Daas.
ਸਕਯਥੁ ਸੁ ਹੀਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਹੀਅ ਬਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਨਿਜ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤ ॥
sakayath su heeo jit heea basai gur amaradaas nij jagat pit |
Fruitful is the heart in which Guru Amar Daas, the Father of the world, Himself abides.
ਸਕਯਥੁ ਸੁ ਸਿਰੁ ਜਾਲਪੁ ਭਣੈ ਜੁ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਿਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਨਿਤ ॥੧॥੧੦॥
sakayath su sir jaalap bhanai ju sir nivai gur amar nit |1|10|
Fruitful is the head, says Jaalap, which bows forever before Guru Amar Daas. ||1||10||
ਤਿਨਰ ਦੁਖ ਨਹ ਭੁਖ ਤਿਨਰ ਨਿਧਨ ਨਹੁ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ॥
tinar dukh neh bhukh tinar nidhan nahu kaheeeh |
They do not suffer pain or hunger, and they cannot be called poor.
ਤਿਨਰ ਸੋਕੁ ਨਹੁ ਹੂਐ ਤਿਨਰ ਸੇ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਲਹੀਅਹਿ ॥
tinar sok nahu hooai tinar se ant na laheeeh |
They do not grieve, and their limits cannot be found.
ਤਿਨਰ ਸੇਵ ਨਹੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿਨਰ ਸਯ ਸਹਸ ਸਮਪਹਿ ॥
tinar sev nahu kareh tinar say sehas samapeh |
They do not serve anyone else, but they give gifts to hundreds and thousands.
ਤਿਨਰ ਦੁਲੀਚੈ ਬਹਹਿ ਤਿ ਨਰ ਉਥਪਿ ਬਿਥਪਹਿ ॥
tinar duleechai baheh ti nar uthap bithapeh |
They sit on beautiful carpets; they establish and disestablish at will.
ਸੁਖ ਲਹਹਿ ਤਿਨਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਅਭੈ ਪਟੁ ਰਿਪ ਮਧਿ ਤਿਹ ॥
sukh laheh tinar sansaar meh abhai patt rip madh tih |
They find peace in this world, and live fearlessly amidst their enemies.
ਸਕਯਥ ਤਿਨਰ ਜਾਲਪੁ ਭਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੁ ਜਿਹ ॥੨॥੧੧॥
sakayath tinar jaalap bhanai gur amaradaas suprasan jih |2|11|
They are fruitful and prosperous, says Jaalap. Guru Amar Daas is pleased with them. ||2||11||
ਤੈ ਪਢਿਅਉ ਇਕੁ ਮਨਿ ਧਰਿਅਉ ਇਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਓ ॥
tai padtiaau ik man dhariaau ik kar ik pachhaanio |
You read about the One Lord, and enshrine Him in Your mind; You realize the One and Only Lord.
ਨਯਣਿ ਬਯਣਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਦੁਹੁ ਠਾਂਇ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥
nayan bayan muhi ik ik duhu tthaane na jaanio |
With Your eyes and the words You speak, You dwell upon the One Lord; You do not know any other place of rest.
ਸੁਪਨਿ ਇਕੁ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਇਕੁ ਇਕਸ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਣਉ ॥
supan ik paratakh ik ikas meh leenau |
You know the One Lord while dreaming, and the One Lord while awake. You are absorbed in the One.
ਤੀਸ ਇਕੁ ਅਰੁ ਪੰਜਿ ਸਿਧੁ ਪੈਤੀਸ ਨ ਖੀਣਉ ॥
tees ik ar panj sidh paitees na kheenau |
At the age of seventy-one, You began to march towards the Indestructible Lord.
ਇਕਹੁ ਜਿ ਲਾਖੁ ਲਖਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਵਰਨਿਅਉ ॥
eikahu ji laakh lakhahu alakh hai ik ik kar varaniaau |
The One Lord, who takes hundreds of thousands of forms, cannot be seen. He can only be described as One.
ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜਾਲਪੁ ਭਣੈ ਤੂ ਇਕੁ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਮੰਨਿਅਉ ॥੩॥੧੨॥
gur amaradaas jaalap bhanai too ik lorreh ik maniaau |3|12|
So speaks Jaalap: O Guru Amar Daas, You long for the One Lord, and believe in the One Lord alone. ||3||12||
ਜਿ ਮਤਿ ਗਹੀ ਜੈਦੇਵਿ ਜਿ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਸੰਮਾਣੀ ॥
ji mat gahee jaidev ji mat naamai samaanee |
The understanding which Jai Dayv grasped, the understanding which permeated Naam Dayv,
ਜਿ ਮਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਚਿਤਿ ਭਗਤ ਕੰਬੀਰਹਿ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
ji mat trilochan chit bhagat kanbeereh jaanee |
the understanding which was in the consciousness of Trilochan and known by the devotee Kabeer,
ਰੁਕਮਾਂਗਦ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਜੰਪਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ॥
rukamaangad karatoot raam janpahu nit bhaaee |
by which Rukmaangad constantly meditated on the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny,
ਅੰਮਰੀਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
amareek prahalaad saran gobind gat paaee |
which brought Ambreek and Prahlaad to seek the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Universe, and which brought them to salvation
ਤੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜੀ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਲੵ ਜਾਣੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ॥
tai lobh krodh trisanaa tajee su mat jalay jaanee jugat |
says JALL that sublime understanding has brought You to renounce greed, anger and desire, and to know the way.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
gur amaradaas nij bhagat hai dekh daras paavau mukat |4|13|
Guru Amar Daas is the Lord's own devotee; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, one is liberated. ||4||13||
ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਪਰਸੀਐ ਪੁਹਮਿ ਪਾਤਿਕ ਬਿਨਾਸਹਿ ॥
gur amaradaas paraseeai puham paatik binaaseh |
Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the earth is purged of its sin.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਪਰਸੀਐ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਆਸਾਸਹਿ ॥
gur amaradaas paraseeai sidh saadhik aasaaseh |
The Siddhas and seekers long to meet with Guru Amar Daas.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਪਰਸੀਐ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਲਹੀਐ ਪਉ ਮੁਕਿਹਿ ॥
gur amaradaas paraseeai dhiaan laheeai pau mukihi |
Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the mortal meditates on the Lord, and his journey comes to its end.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਪਰਸੀਐ ਅਭਉ ਲਭੈ ਗਉ ਚੁਕਿਹਿ ॥
gur amaradaas paraseeai abhau labhai gau chukihi |
Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the Fearless Lord is obtained, and the cycle of reincarnation is brought to an end.
ਇਕੁ ਬਿੰਨਿ ਦੁਗਣ ਜੁ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਜਾ ਸੁਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਮਾਨਵ ਹਿਲਹਿ ॥
eik bin dugan ju tau rahai jaa sumantr maanav hileh |
Realizing the One Lord, love of duality ceases, and one comes to accept the Sublime Mantra of the Guru.
ਜਾਲਪਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਤੜੇ ਗੁਰ ਅਮਰਦਾਸਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਮਿਲਹਿ ॥੫॥੧੪॥
jaalapaa padaarath itarre gur amaradaas dditthai mileh |5|14|
So speaks Jaalap: countless treasures are obtained, by the sight of Guru Amar Daas. ||5||14||

ੴ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹ ॥

The Lord is One and the Victory is of the True Guru.
ਅਗੰਜੋ ਅਭੰਜੋ ਅਰੂਪੋ ਅਰੇਖ ॥
aganjo abhanjo aroopo arekh |
Now listen to the Tale of Raja Daleep,
ਅਗਾਧੋ ਅਬਾਧੋ ਅਭਰਮੋ ਅਲੇਖ ॥੧॥
agaadho abaadho abharamo alekh |1|
Who was sitting besides the Honourable One (the King).(1)
ਅਰਾਗੋ ਅਰੂਪੋ ਅਰੇਖੋ ਅਰੰਗ ॥
araago aroopo arekho arang |
The King had four sons,
ਅਜਨਮੋ ਅਬਰਨੋ ਅਭੂਤੋ ਅਭੰਗ ॥੨॥
ajanamo abarano abhooto abhang |2|
Who had learned the art of fighting and the Royal Court Etiquettes.(2)
ਅਛੇਦੋ ਅਭੇਦੋ ਅਕਰਮੋ ਅਕਾਮ ॥
achhedo abhedo akaramo akaam |
In the war they were like the crocodiles and excited lions,
ਅਖੇਦੋ ਅਭੇਦੋ ਅਭਰਮੋ ਅਭਾਮ ॥੩॥
akhedo abhedo abharamo abhaam |3|
Also they were very proficient horse-riders and adept in the hand-movements.(3)
ਅਰੇਖੋ ਅਭੇਖੋ ਅਲੇਖੋ ਅਭੰਗ ॥
arekho abhekho alekho abhang |
The King called all his four sons,
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਹੇ ਰੰਗ ਰੰਗ ॥੪॥
khudaavand bakhashindahe rang rang |4|
And offered them to sit on the gilded chairs.(4)
ਹਿਕਾਯਤ ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦੇਮ ਰਾਜਹਿ ਦਿਲੀਪ ॥
hikaayat shuneedem raajeh dileep |
He, then, asked his prolific ministers,
ਨਿਸ਼ਸਤਹ ਬੁਦਹ ਨਿਜ਼ਦ ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹੀਪ ॥੫॥
nishasatah budah nizad maano maheep |5|
‘Who among these four is suitable for kingship?‘(5)
ਕਿ ਓਰਾ ਹਮੀ ਬੂਦ ਪਿਸਰੇ ਚਹਾਰ ॥
ki oraa hamee bood pisare chahaar |
When the wise minister heard this,
ਕਿ ਦਰ ਰਜ਼ਮ ਦਰ ਬਜ਼ਮ ਆਮੁਖ਼ਤਹ ਕਾਰ ॥੬॥
ki dar razam dar bazam aamakhateh kaar |6|
He raised the flag to answer.(6)
ਬ ਰਜ਼ਮ ਅੰਦਰਾ ਹਮ ਚੁ ਅਜ਼ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਮਸਤ ॥
b razam andaraa ham chu az sher masat |
He spoke thus, ‘you are, yourself righteous and wise,
ਕਿ ਚਾਬਕ ਰਿਕਾਬਸਤੁ ਗੁਸਤਾਖ਼ ਦਸਤ ॥੭॥
ki chaabak rikaabasat gusataakh dasat |7|
‘You are perceiver and possessor of independent reflections.(7)
ਚਹਾਰੋ ਸ਼ਹੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਪਿਸਰਾ ਬੁਖਾਦ ॥
chahaaro shahe pesh pisaraa bukhaad |
‘This, what you have asked, is beyond my faculty.
ਜੁਦਾ ਬਰ ਜੁਦਾ ਕੁਰਸੀਏ ਜ਼ਰ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਦ ॥੮॥
judaa bar judaa kurasee zar nishaad |8|
‘Me suggesting might cause some friction.(8)
ਬਿ ਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦ ਦਾਨਾਇ ਦਉਲਤ ਪਰਸਤ ॥
bi purasheed daanaae daulat parasat |
‘But, My Sovereign, if you insist, I would say,
ਅਜ਼ੀ ਅੰਦਰੂੰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕਸ ਅਸਤ ॥੯॥
azee andaroon baadashaahee kas asat |9|
‘And present you the reaction (of our council).(9)
ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦ ਆਂ ਚੁ ਦਾਨਾਇ ਦਾਨਸ਼ ਨਿਹਾਦ ॥
shuneed aan chu daanaae daanash nihaad |
‘Because the one who endows helping hand,
ਬ ਤਮਕੀਨ ਪਾਸਖ ਅਲਮ ਬਰ ਕੁਸ਼ਾਦ ॥੧੦॥
b tamakeen paasakh alam bar kushaad |10|
‘Gets the (godly) help to gain success.(10)
ਬ ਗ਼ੁਫ਼ਤੰਦ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਦੀਨ ਦਾਨਾਇ ਨਗ਼ਜ਼ ॥
b gufatand khush deen daanaae nagaz |
‘First of all we must test their intelligence,
ਕਿ ਯਜ਼ਦਾ ਸ਼ਨਾਸ ਅਸਤੁ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਮਗ਼ਜ਼ ॥੧੧॥
ki yazadaa shanaas asat aazaad magaz |11|
‘And then we will set them on trial to judge their work.(11)
ਮਰਾ ਕੁਦਰਤੇ ਨੇਸਤ ਈਂ ਗੁਫ਼ਤ ਨੀਸਤ ॥
maraa kudarate nesat een gufat neesat |
‘One (boy) should be given ten thousand elephants,
ਸੁਖਨ ਗੁਫ਼ਤਨੋ ਬਿਕਰ ਜਾ ਸੁਫ਼ਤ ਨੀਸਤ ॥੧੨॥
sukhan gufatano bikar jaa sufat neesat |12|
‘And those (elephants) must be intoxicated and tied in heavy chains.(12)
ਅਗਰ ਸ਼ਹਿ ਬਿਗੋਯਦ ਬਿਗੋਯਮ ਜਵਾਬ ॥
agar sheh bigoyad bigoyam javaab |
‘To the second one, we will give one hundred thousand horses,
ਨੁਮਾਯਮ ਬ ਤੋ ਹਾਲ ਈਂ ਬਾ ਸਵਾਬ ॥੧੩॥
numaayam b to haal een baa savaab |13|
‘On whose backs there will be gilded saddles, as charming as the spring-season.(13)
ਹਰਾ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਨ ਯਾਰੀ ਦਿਹਦ ॥
haraa kas ki yazadaan yaaree dihad |
‘The third one will be given three hundred thousand camels,
ਬ ਕਾਰੇ ਜਹਾ ਕਾਮਗਾਰੀ ਦਿਹਦ ॥੧੪॥
b kaare jahaa kaamagaaree dihad |14|
‘Whose backs will be adorned with silver trappings.(14)
ਕਿ ਈਂ ਰਾ ਬ ਅਕਲ ਆਜ਼ਮਾਈ ਕੁਨੇਮ ॥
ki een raa b akal aazamaaee kunem |
‘To the fourth one, we will give one seed of moong (lentil) and half a seed of gram,
ਵਜ਼ਾ ਪਸ ਬ ਕਾਰ ਆਜ਼ਮਾਈ ਕੁਨੇਮ ॥੧੫॥
vazaa pas b kaar aazamaaee kunem |15|
‘Because that one possesses independent convictions and is endowed with intelligence.‘(15)
ਯਕੇ ਰਾ ਦਿਹਦ ਫ਼ੀਲ ਦਹਿ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮਸਤ ॥
yake raa dihad feel deh hazaar masat |
The one (the prince), who was wise, brought them (the seeds) to his home,
ਹਮਹ ਮਸਤੀਓ ਮਸਤ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਬਸਤ ॥੧੬॥
hamah masateeo masat zanjeer basat |16|
And also acquired one more whole seed of gram.(16)
ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਰਾ ਦਿਹਦ ਅਸਪ ਪਾ ਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
digar raa dihad asap paa sad hazaar |
It was conceived that he would sow the seed,
ਜ਼ਿ ਜ਼ਰ ਸਾਖ਼ਤਹ ਜ਼ੀਨ ਚੂੰ ਨਉ ਬਹਾਰ ॥੧੭॥
zi zar saakhateh zeen choon nau bahaar |17|
And through that his intelligence could be adjudged.(17)
ਸਿਯਮ ਰਾ ਦਿਹਦ ਸ਼ੁਤਰ ਸਿ ਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
siyam raa dihad shutar si sad hazaar |
He sowed both the seeds in the soil,
ਹਮਹ ਨੁਕਰਹ ਬਾਰੋ ਹਮਹ ਜ਼ਰ ਨਿਗਾਰ ॥੧੮॥
hamah nukarah baaro hamah zar nigaar |18|
And sought the blessedness of Almighty.(18)
ਚੁਅਮ ਰਾ ਦਿਹਦ ਮੁੰਗ ਯਕ ਨੁਖ਼ਦ ਨੀਮ ॥
chuam raa dihad mung yak nukhad neem |
A period of six months had passed, when,
ਅਜ਼ਾ ਮਰਦ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਆਕਲ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥੧੯॥
azaa marad aazaad aakal azeem |19|
With the dawn of new season, the greenery sprouted.(19)
ਬਿਯਾਵੁਰਦ ਪੁਰ ਅਕਲ ਖ਼ਾਨਹ ਕਜ਼ਾ ॥
biyaavurad pur akal khaanah kazaa |
He kept repeating the process for ten years,
ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਨੀਮ ਨੁਖ਼ਦਸ਼ ਬ ਬਸਤਨ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥੨੦॥
digar neem nukhadash b basatan azaa |20|
And increased the produce by looking after them skilfully.(20)
ਹਮੀ ਖ਼ਾਸ਼ਤ ਕੋ ਤੁਖ਼ਮ ਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
hamee khaashat ko tukham rezee kunad |
By repeating the seeding for ten, twenty times,
ਖ਼ਿਰਦ ਆਜ਼ਮਾਯਸ਼ ਬਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੨੧॥
khirad aazamaayash barezee kunad |21|
He accumulated great many heaps of grains.(21)
ਦਫ਼ਨ ਕਰਦ ਹਰਦੋ ਜ਼ਮੀਂ ਅੰਦਰਾ ॥
dafan karad harado zameen andaraa |
Doing so he amassed a good amount of wealth,
ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦ ਬਰ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗਿਰਾ ॥੨੨॥
nazar karad bar shukar saahib giraa |22|
Which had come through those mounds of cereals.(22)
ਚੁ ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਮਾਹਿ ਗੁਸ਼ਤੰਦ ਦਰਾ ਦਫ਼ਨਵਾਰ ॥
chu shash maeh gushatand daraa dafanavaar |
Using this (money) he purchased ten thousand elephants,
ਪਦੀਦ ਆਮਦਹ ਸਬਜ਼ਹੇ ਨਉ ਬਹਾਰ ॥੨੩॥
padeed aamadah sabazahe nau bahaar |23|
Which were as tall as mountains and they walked like the water of river Nile.(23)
ਬਰੇਜ਼ੀਦ ਦਹਿ ਸਾਲ ਤੁਖ਼ਮੇ ਕਜ਼ਾ ॥
barezeed deh saal tukhame kazaa |
Also he bought five thousand horses,
ਬ ਪਰਵਰਦਹ ਓਰਾ ਬੁਰੀਦਨ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥੨੪॥
b paravaradah oraa bureedan azaa |24|
Who had gilded saddles and silver trappings.(24)
ਬਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦਹੇ ਬੀਸਤ ਬਾਰਸ਼ ਅਜ਼ੋ ॥
barezee dahe beesat baarash azo |
Three thousand camels, which he had acquired,
ਬਸੇ ਗਸ਼ਤਹ ਖ਼ਰਵਾਰ ਦਾਨਹ ਅਜ਼ੋ ॥੨੫॥
base gashatah kharavaar daanah azo |25|
All of them had bags full of gold and silver at their backs.(25)
ਚੁਨਾ ਜ਼ਿਯਾਦਹ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਦਉਲਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਕਰਾਰ ॥
chunaa ziyaadah shud daulate dil karaar |
With the monetary strength coming through one seed,
ਕਜ਼ੋ ਦਾਨਹ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਦਾਨਹਾਏ ਅੰਬਾਰ ॥੨੬॥
kazo daanah shud daanahaae anbaar |26|
He inhabited a new city called Delhi.(26)
ਖ਼ਰੀਦਹ ਅਜ਼ਾ ਨਕਦ ਦਹਿ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਫ਼ੀਲ ॥
khareedah azaa nakad deh hazaar feel |
And the money coming through the moong seed he flourished the City of Moong,
ਚੁ ਕੋਹੇ ਰਵਾ ਹਮ ਚੁ ਦਰੀਆਇ ਨੀਲ ॥੨੭॥
chu kohe ravaa ham chu dareeae neel |27|
Which was extremely admired by his confidants.(27)
ਬਗੀਰਦ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਅਸਪ ਪਾਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
bageerad azo asap paasad hazaar |
Proceeding as such, a period of twelve years had lapsed.
ਹਮਹ ਜਰ ਵ ਜ਼ੀਨੋ ਹਮਹ ਨੁਕਰਹਵਾਰ ॥੨੮॥
hamah jar v zeeno hamah nukarahavaar |28|
And undiminishable amount of wealth was amassed.(28)
ਖ਼ਰੀਦੰਦ ਸੇ ਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰੋ ਸ਼ੁਤਰ ॥
khareedand se sad hazaaro shutar |
The King was seated on the throne majestically.
ਹਮਹ ਜ਼ਰਹ ਬਾਰੋ ਹਮਹ ਨੁਕਰਹ ਪੁਰ ॥੨੯॥
hamah zarah baaro hamah nukarah pur |29|
When he (the Minister) walked in and the King of seven continents asked,(29)
ਵਜ਼ਾ ਦਾਲ ਨਉ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਆਜ਼ਮ ਬੁਬਸਤ ॥
vazaa daal nau shahir aazam bubasat |
‘Bring and present to me the papers,
ਕਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਅਜ਼ਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਿਹਲੀ ਸ਼ੁਦਸਤ ॥੩੦॥
ki naame azaa shahir dihalee shudasat |30|
‘Which enumerate what I had endowed to my four sons.‘(30)
ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਦਾਨਹ ਰਾ ਬਸਤ ਮੂੰਗੀ ਪਟਨ ॥
digar daanah raa basat moongee pattan |
The recording scribe picked up the pen,
ਚੁ ਦੋਸਤਾ ਪਸੰਦਸਤੁ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਫ਼ਿਕਨ ॥੩੧॥
chu dosataa pasandasat dushaman fikan |31|
And to reply, (he) raised his flag.(31)
ਬ ਗੁਜ਼ਰੀਦ ਦਹ ਦੋ ਬਰ ਈਂ ਨਮਤ ਸਾਲ ॥
b guzareed deh do bar een namat saal |
(The Raja asked,) ‘I had bequeathed them thousands (of rupees),
ਬਸੇ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਜੋ ਦਉਲਤੇ ਬੇ ਜ਼ਵਾਲ ॥੩੨॥
base gashat jo daulate be zavaal |32|
‘Examine the deed and open your tongue (to speak).(32)
ਚੁ ਬਿਨਸ਼ਸਤ ਬਰ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹੀਪ ॥
chu binashasat bar takhat maano maheep |
‘Read from the paper and narrate,
ਬ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਸ ਦਰਾਮਦ ਸਹੇ ਹਫ਼ਤ ਦੀਪ ॥੩੩॥
b purashas daraamad sahe hafat deep |33|
‘How much I had given to each of them.‘(33)
ਬਿਗੋਯਦ ਬ ਪੇਸ਼ੀਨ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਬਿਯਾਰ ॥
bigoyad b pesheen kaagaz biyaar |
When he (the scribe) heard the command of the King,
ਚਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦਅਮ ਮਨ ਬ ਪਿਸਰਾ ਚਹਾਰ ॥੩੪॥
chi bakhasheedam man b pisaraa chahaar |34|
Who had earned the praises and the status same as the gods.(34)
ਦਬੀਰੇ ਕਲਮ ਬਰ ਕਲਮ ਜਨ ਗਿਰਿਫ਼ਤ ॥
dabeere kalam bar kalam jan girafat |
(King stressed,) ‘Present to me, whatever beneficence I had endowed to,
ਜਵਾਬੇ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਰਾ ਅਲਮਬਰ ਗਰਿਫ਼ਤ ॥੩੫॥
javaabe sukhan raa alamabar garafat |35|
‘You, the lights of the world and stars of Yaman.‘(35)
ਬਗੁਫ਼ਤਾ ਚਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਏਸ਼ਾ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
bagafataa chi bakhasheed eshaa hazaar |
The first son replied, ‘Most of the elephants were killed in the wars,
ਬ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਬੁਬੀਂ ਤਾ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨਸ ਬਿਯਾਰ ॥੩੬॥
b kaagaz bubeen taa zubaanas biyaar |36|
‘And the ones which were saved, I gave them out in charity like you do.‘(36)
ਬ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਬੁਬੀਂ ਤਾ ਬਿਗੋਯਦ ਜ਼ੁਬਾ ॥
b kaagaz bubeen taa bigoyad zubaa |
He asked the second son, ‘What have you done with the horses?‘
ਚਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਹਰਕਸ ਅਜ਼ਾ ॥੩੭॥
chi bakhasheed shud bakhash harakas azaa |37|
(He replied), ‘I have given out some in charity and rest faced the death.‘(37)
ਚੁ ਬਿਸ਼ਨੀਦ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਅਜ਼ ਮਹੀਪਾਨ ਮਾਨ ॥
chu bishaneed sukhan az maheepaan maan |
(He) asked the third one to show him his camels.
ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਚੂੰ ਮਲਾਯਕ ਮਕਾਨ ॥੩੮॥
farishatah sifat choon malaayak makaan |38|
‘To whom have you denoted them?‘(38)
ਬਯਾਰੀ ਮਰਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦਹ ਮਨ ॥
bayaaree maraa pesh bakhasheedah man |
He replied, ‘A number of them died in the wars,
ਚਰਾਗ਼ੇ ਜਹਾ ਆਫ਼ਤਾਬੇ ਯਮਨ ॥੩੯॥
charaage jahaa aafataabe yaman |39|
‘And the remaining I gave in charity.‘(39)
ਬਿਗੋਯਦ ਕਿ ਮੁਰਦੰਦ ਬਾਜੇ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ॥
bigoyad ki muradand baaje muhinm |
Then (he) asked the fourth one, ‘Oh, you the gentle one,‘
ਕਿ ਮਾ ਹਮ ਬਸਾ ਫ਼ੀਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦਹਅਮ ॥੪੦॥
ki maa ham basaa feel bakhasheedaham |40|
‘You, the one deserving royal canopy and the throne,(40)
ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਰਾ ਬਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦ ਅਪਸ ਚ ਕਰਦ ॥
digar raa bapurasheed apas ch karad |
‘Where is the gift, which I granted you;
ਕਿ ਬਾਜ਼ੇ ਬਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦੁ ਬਾਜ਼ੇ ਬਿਮੁਰਦ ॥੪੧॥
ki baaze babakhasheed baaze bimurad |41|
‘One seed of moong and the half that of gram?‘(41)
ਸਿਅਮ ਰਾ ਬਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦ ਸ਼ੁਤਰਾ ਨੁਮਾ ॥
siam raa bapurasheed shutaraa numaa |
(He replied,) ‘If your command permits, I may present you,
ਕੁਜਾ ਤੋ ਬਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਏ ਜਾਨ ਮਾ ॥੪੨॥
kujaa to babakhasheed e jaan maa |42|
‘All the elephants, horses and many a camels.‘(42)
ਬਗੁਫ਼ਤਾ ਕਿ ਬਾਜ਼ੇ ਬਕਾਰ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥
bagafataa ki baaze bakaar aamadand |
He brought forward ten hundred thousand stupefied elephants,
ਬਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰੂੰ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥੪੩॥
babakhash andaroon beshumaar aamadand |43|
Which were adorned with gold and silver trappings.(43)
ਚੁਅਮ ਰਾ ਬਪੁਰਸ਼ੀਦ ਕਿ ਏ ਨੇਕ ਬਖ਼ਤ ॥
chuam raa bapurasheed ki e nek bakhat |
He presented ten to twelve thousand horses,
ਸਜ਼ਾਵਾਰ ਦੇਹੀਮ ਸਾਯਾਨ ਤਖ਼ਤ ॥੪੪॥
sazaavaar deheem saayaan takhat |44|
Adorned with numerous gilded saddles.(44)
ਕੁਜਾ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਫ਼ਹੀਮ ॥
kujaa gashat bakhashash tumaaraa faheem |
He brought along steel helmets and armours,
ਯਕੇ ਦਾਨਹ ਮੁੰਗੋ ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਨੁਖ਼ਦ ਨੀਮ ॥੪੫॥
yake daanah mungo digar nukhad neem |45|
And also gilded animal-blankets, arrows, and expensive swords,(45)
ਸ਼ਵਦ ਗਰ ਹੁਕਮ ਤਾ ਬਿਯਾਰੇਮ ਪੇਸ਼ ॥
shavad gar hukam taa biyaarem pesh |
The camels from Baghdad, which were laden with ornamented clothes,
ਹਮਹ ਫ਼ੀਲੁ ਅਸਪੋ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਸ਼ੁਤਰ ਬੇਸ਼ ॥੪੬॥
hamah feel asapo azo shutar besh |46|
Plenty of gold, great number of clothes,(46)
ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦ ਫ਼ੀਲੇ ਦੋ ਦਹਿ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮਸਤ ॥
nazar karad feele do deh hazaar masat |
Ten neelams (precious stones), and many Dinars (coins),
ਪੁਰ ਅਜ਼ ਜ਼ਰ ਬਾਰੋ ਹਮਹ ਨੁਕਰਹ ਬਸਤ ॥੪੭॥
pur az zar baaro hamah nukarah basat |47|
By looking at them even eyes shuddered.(47)
ਹੁਮਾ ਅਸਪ ਪਾ ਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਆਵਰੀਦ ॥
humaa asap paa sad hazaar aavareed |
Through one seed of moong, he raised a city,
ਹੁਮਾ ਜ਼ਰ ਜ਼ੀਨ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ਆਵਰੀਦ ॥੪੮॥
humaa zar zeen beshumaar aavareed |48|
Which was given the name of Moongi-patam.(48)
ਹਮਹ ਖ਼ੋਦ ਖ਼ੁਫ਼ਤਾਨ ਬਰਗਸ਼ਤਵਾ ॥
hamah khod khufataan baragashatavaa |
With the other, half of gram-seed, he raised another one,
ਬਸੇ ਤੀਰੁ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰ ਕੀਮਤ ਗਿਰਾ ॥੪੯॥
base teer shamasher keemat giraa |49|
And associating with his name, it was called Delhi.(49)
ਬਸੇ ਸ਼ੁਤਰ ਬਗਦਾਦ ਜ਼ਰ ਬਫ਼ਤ ਬਾਰ ॥
base shutar bagadaad zar bafat baar |
The King approved this innovation and honoured him,
ਜ਼ਰੋ ਜਾਮਹ ਨੀਮ ਆਸਤੀਂ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ॥੫੦॥
zaro jaamah neem aasateen beshumaar |50|
From then on gave him the name as Raja Daleep.(50)
ਕਿ ਦਹਿ ਨੀਲੁ ਦਹਿ ਪਦਮ ਦੀਨਾਰ ਜ਼ਰਦ ॥
ki deh neel deh padam deenaar zarad |
The omens of royalty, which were depicted in him,
ਕਜ਼ੋ ਦੀਦਹ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਦੀਦਹੇ ਦੋਸਤ ਸਰਦ ॥੫੧॥
kazo deedah shud deedahe dosat sarad |51|
Made him worthy of the throne.(51)
ਕਿ ਯਕ ਮੁੰਗ ਯਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਜ਼ੋ ਕਾਮ ਸ਼ੁਦ ॥
ki yak mung yak shahir zo kaam shud |
Such a man deserved gilded canopy, royal stamp and coinage,
ਕਿ ਮੂੰਗੀ ਪਟਨ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਓ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ੁਦ ॥੫੨॥
ki moongee pattan shahir o naam shud |52|
And thousands of honours were sacrificed on to him.(52)
ਕਿ ਨੀਮਿ ਨੁਖ਼ਦ ਰਾ ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਬਸਤ ॥
ki neem nukhad raa digar shahir basat |
The (other) three were fools and possessed tarnished minds.
ਕਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਿਹਲੀ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਅਸਤ ॥੫੩॥
ki naame azo shahir dihalee shud asat |53|
Their language was rustic and their gait was detestable.(53)
ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਆਮਦ ਬ ਤਦਬੀਰ ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹੀਪ ॥
khush aamad b tadabeer maano maheep |
He (King) displayed his desire, as he (son) was to be given the kingdom,
ਖ਼ਿਤਾਬਸ਼ ਬਦੋ ਦਾਦ ਰਾਜਹ ਦਲੀਪ ॥੫੪॥
khitaabash bado daad raajah daleep |54|
He would disclose all his wealth to him (son),(54)
ਕਿ ਪੈਦਾ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਮਰਦ ਸ਼ਾਹਨ ਸ਼ਹੀ ॥
ki paidaa azo marad shaahan shahee |
And he would be a suitable person to sit on the throne,
ਸਜ਼ਾਵਾਰ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਅਸਤੁ ਤਾਜੋ ਮਹੀ ॥੫੫॥
sazaavaar takhat asat taajo mahee |55|
On account of his high intellect.(55)
ਬਜ਼ੇਬਦ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਮਰਦ ਤਾਜੋ ਨਗ਼ੀਂ ॥
bazebad azo marad taajo nageen |
Then, he (the fourth prince) attained the title of Raja Daleep,
ਬਰ ਆਂ ਅਕਲੁ ਤਦਬੀਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਆਫ਼ਰੀਂ ॥੫੬॥
bar aan akal tadabeer hazaar aafareen |56|
As the King had endowed him the kingdom.(56)
ਸਿ ਓ ਅਸਤ ਬੇਅਕਲ ਆਲੂਦਹ ਮਗ਼ਜ਼ ॥
si o asat beakal aaloodah magaz |
The other three were banished from the territory,
ਨ ਰਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਤਰ ਨ ਗ਼ੁਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਨਗ਼ਜ਼ ॥੫੭॥
n rafataar khushatar na gufataar nagaz |57|
Because neither they were intelligent nor devoid of bad traits.(57)
ਹਮੀ ਖ਼ਾਸਤ ਕਿ ਓਰਾ ਬਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਦਿਹਮ ॥
hamee khaasat ki oraa bashaahee diham |
He (Daleep) was enthroned on the royal seat,
ਜ਼ਿ ਦੌਲਤ ਖ਼ੁਦਸ਼ਰਾ ਅਗਾਹੀ ਦਿਹਮ ॥੫੮॥
zi daualat khudasharaa agaahee diham |58|
And the door of the treasure was opened for him by the key.(58)
ਬਜ਼ੇਬਦ ਕਜ਼ੋ ਰੰਗ ਸ਼ਾਹਨਸ਼ਹੀ ॥
bazebad kazo rang shaahanashahee |
(The King) endowed the kingdom to him, and, himself, became a freeman,
ਕਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸ਼ਊਰ ਅਸਤ ਵ ਮਾਲਕ ਮਹੀ ॥੫੯॥
ki saahib shaoor asat v maalak mahee |59|
Adoring the ascetic’s garb, he took his way to the jungle (seclusion).(59)
ਖ਼ਿਤਾਬਸ਼ ਕਜ਼ੋ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਰਾਜਹ ਦਲੀਪ ॥
khitaabash kazo gashat raajah daleep |
(The poet says),
ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ਤ ਬਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਮਾਨੋ ਮਹੀਪ ॥੬੦॥
khilaafat babakhasheed maano maheep |60|
‘Oh Saki, the bartender, give me the cup full of green (liquid),
ਸਿ ਪਿਸਰਾ ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰਦ ॥
si pisaraa digar shaeh aazaad karad |
‘Which I may need at the time of struggle,(60)
ਨ ਦਾਨਸ਼ ਪਰਸਤੋ ਨ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਮਰਦ ॥੬੧॥
n daanash parasato na aazaad marad |61|
‘And give me this so that at the time of assessment,
ਕਿ ਓਰਾ ਬਰੋ ਜ਼ਰ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਦ ॥
ki oraa baro zar singhaasan nishaad |
‘I may commence the use of my sword.(61)(2)
ਕਲੀਦੇ ਕੁਹਨ ਗੰਜ ਰਾ ਬਰ ਕੁਸ਼ਾਦ ॥੬੨॥
kaleede kuhan ganj raa bar kushaad |62|
ਬਦੋ ਦਾਦ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਗਸ਼ਤ ॥
bado daad shaahee khud aazaad gashat |
ਬਪੋਸ਼ੀਦ ਦਲਕਸ਼ ਰਵਾ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਬਦਸ਼ਤ ॥੬੩॥
baposheed dalakash ravaa shud badashat |63|
ਬਿਦਿਹ ਸਾਕੀਯਾ ਸਾਗ਼ਰੇ ਸਬਜ਼ ਰੰਗ ॥
bidih saakeeyaa saagare sabaz rang |
ਕਿ ਮਾਰਾ ਬਕਾਰ ਅਸਤ ਦਰ ਵਕਤ ਜੰਗ ॥੬੪॥
ki maaraa bakaar asat dar vakat jang |64|
ਬ ਮਨ ਦਿਹ ਕਿ ਬਖ਼ਤ ਆਜ਼ਮਾਈ ਕੁਨਮ ॥
b man dih ki bakhat aazamaaee kunam |
ਜ਼ਿ ਤੇਗ਼ੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਸ਼ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੁਨਮ ॥੬੫॥੨॥
zi tege khudash kaaravaaee kunam |65|2|
