ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਬਰਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਖਟ ਦਰਸਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਸਿਮਰੰਥਿ ਗੁਨਾ ॥
gaaveh gun baran chaar khatt darasan brahamaadik simaranth gunaa |
The four castes and the six Shaastras sing His Glorious Praises; Brahma and the others contemplate His Virtues.
ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਸੇਸੁ ਸਹਸ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਰਸ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਿ ਧੁਨਾ ॥
gaavai gun ses sehas jihabaa ras aad ant liv laag dhunaa |
The thousand-tongued serpent king sings His Praises with delight, remaining lovingly attached to Him.
ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥
gaavai gun mahaadeo bairaagee jin dhiaan nirantar jaanio |
Shiva, detached and beyond desire, sings the Glorious Praises of Guru Nanak, who knows the Lord's endless meditation.
ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੫॥
kab kal sujas gaavau gur naanak raaj jog jin maanio |5|
KAL the poet sings the Sublime Praises of Guru Nanak, who enjoys mastery of Raja Yoga. ||5||
ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਾਣਿਓ ਬਸਿਓ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਰਿਦੰਤਰਿ ॥
raaj jog maanio basio niravair ridantar |
He mastered Raja Yoga, and enjoys sovereignty over both worlds; the Lord, beyond hate and revenge, is enshrined within His Heart.
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਰੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਲੇ ਤਰਿਓ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ॥
srisatt sagal udharee naam le tario nirantar |
The whole world is saved, and carried across, chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਨਕਾਦਿ ਆਦਿ ਜਨਕਾਦਿ ਜੁਗਹ ਲਗਿ ॥
gun gaaveh sanakaad aad janakaad jugah lag |
Sanak and Janak and the others sing His Praises, age after age.
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਯਥੁ ਭਲੌ ਜਗਿ ॥
dhan dhan gur dhan janam sakayath bhalau jag |
Blessed, blessed, blessed and fruitful is the sublime birth of the Guru into the world.
ਪਾਤਾਲ ਪੁਰੀ ਜੈਕਾਰ ਧੁਨਿ ਕਬਿ ਜਨ ਕਲ ਵਖਾਣਿਓ ॥
paataal puree jaikaar dhun kab jan kal vakhaanio |
Even in the nether regions, His Victory is celebrated; so says KAL the poet.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਤੈ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੬॥
har naam rasik naanak gur raaj jog tai maanio |6|
You are blessed with the Nectar of the Lord's Name, O Guru Nanak; You have mastered Raja Yoga, and enjoy sovereignty over both worlds. ||6||
ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਤੈ ਮਾਣਿਓ ਛਲਿਓ ਬਲਿ ਬਾਵਨ ਭਾਇਓ ॥
satajug tai maanio chhalio bal baavan bhaaeo |
In the Golden Age of Sat Yuga, You were pleased to deceive Baal the king, in the form of a dwarf.
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਤੈ ਮਾਣਿਓ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਘੁਵੰਸੁ ਕਹਾਇਓ ॥
tretai tai maanio raam raghuvans kahaaeo |
In the Silver Age of Traytaa Yuga, You were called Raam of the Raghu dynasty.
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਕੰਸੁ ਕਿਰਤਾਰਥੁ ਕੀਓ ॥
duaapur krisan muraar kans kirataarath keeo |
In the Brass Age of Dwaapur Yuga, You were Krishna; You killed Mur the demon and saved Kans.
ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਣ ਕਉ ਰਾਜੁ ਅਭੈ ਭਗਤਹ ਜਨ ਦੀਓ ॥
augrasain kau raaj abhai bhagatah jan deeo |
You blessed Ugrasain with a kingdom, and You blessed Your humble devotees with fearlessness.
ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਗਦੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਕਹਾਇਓ ॥
kalijug pramaan naanak gur angad amar kahaaeo |
In the Iron Age, the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, You are known and accepted as Guru Nanak, Guru Angad and Guru Amar Das.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਜੁ ਅਬਿਚਲੁ ਅਟਲੁ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਓ ॥੭॥
sree guroo raaj abichal attal aad purakh furamaaeo |7|
The sovereign rule of the Great Guru is unchanging and permanent, according the Command of the Primal Lord God. ||7||
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਜੈਦੇਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ॥
gun gaavai ravidaas bhagat jaidev trilochan |
His Glorious Praises are sung by the devotees Ravi Daas, Jai Dayv and Trilochan.
ਨਾਮਾ ਭਗਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਮ ਲੋਚਨ ॥
naamaa bhagat kabeer sadaa gaaveh sam lochan |
The devotees Naam Dayv and Kabeer praise Him continually, knowing Him to be even-eyed.
ਭਗਤੁ ਬੇਣਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਆਤਮ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੈ ॥
bhagat ben gun ravai sehaj aatam rang maanai |
The devotee Baynee sings His Praises; He intuitively enjoys the ecstasy of the soul.
ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jog dhiaan gur giaan binaa prabh avar na jaanai |
He is the Master of Yoga and meditation, and the spiritual wisdom of the Guru; He knows none other except God.
ਸੁਖਦੇਉ ਪਰੀਖੵਤੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਗੋਤਮ ਰਿਖਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
sukhadeo pareekhayat gun ravai gotam rikh jas gaaeo |
Sukh Dayv and Preekhyat sing His Praises, and Gautam the rishi sings His Praise.
ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਨਿਤ ਨਵਤਨੁ ਜਗਿ ਛਾਇਓ ॥੮॥
kab kal sujas naanak gur nit navatan jag chhaaeo |8|
Says KAL the poet, the ever-fresh praises of Guru Nanak are spread throughout the world. ||8||
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਯਾਲਿ ਭਗਤ ਨਾਗਾਦਿ ਭੁਯੰਗਮ ॥
gun gaaveh paayaal bhagat naagaad bhuyangam |
In the nether worlds, His Praises are sung by the devotees like Shaysh-naag in serpent form.
ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤਿ ਜੰਗਮ ॥
mahaadeo gun ravai sadaa jogee jat jangam |
Shiva, the Yogis and the wandering hermits sing His Praises forever.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਬੵਾਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਬੇਦ ਬੵਾਕਰਣ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਅ ॥
gun gaavai mun bayaas jin bed bayaakaran beechaaria |
Vyaas the silent sage, who studied the Vedas and its grammar, sings His Praise.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਅ ॥
brahamaa gun ucharai jin hukam sabh srisatt savaareea |
His Praises are sung by Brahma, who created the entire universe by God's Command.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਸਮ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥
brahamandd khandd pooran braham gun niragun sam jaanio |
God fills the galaxies and realms of the universe; He is known to be the same, manifest and unmanifest.
ਜਪੁ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਹਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੯॥

gun gaaveh nav naath dhan gur saach samaaeo |
The nine masters of Yoga sing His Praises; blessed is the Guru, who is merged into the True Lord.
ਮਾਂਧਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਜੇਨ ਚਕ੍ਰਵੈ ਕਹਾਇਓ ॥
maandhaataa gun ravai jen chakravai kahaaeo |
Maandhaataa, who called himself ruler of all the world, sings His Praises.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਲਿ ਰਾਉ ਸਪਤ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ਬਸੰਤੌ ॥
gun gaavai bal raau sapat paataal basantau |
Bal the king, dwelling in the seventh underworld, sings His Praises.
ਭਰਥਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹੰਤੌ ॥
bharathar gun ucharai sadaa gur sang rahantau |
Bhart'har, abiding forever with Gorakh, his guru, sings His Praises.
ਦੂਰਬਾ ਪਰੂਰਉ ਅੰਗਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
doorabaa paroorau angarai gur naanak jas gaaeo |
Doorbaasaa, King Puro and Angra sing the Praises of Guru Nanak.
ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਓ ॥੧੦॥
kab kal sujas naanak gur ghatt ghatt sehaj samaaeo |10|
Says KAL the poet, the Sublime Praises of Guru Nanak intuitively permeate each and every heart. ||10||
ਮਰਾ ਏਅਤਬਾਰੇ ਬਰੀਂ ਕਸਮ ਨੇਸਤ ॥
maraa eatabaare bareen kasam nesat |
I have faith in your oaths
ਕਿ ਏਜ਼ਦ ਗਵਾਹਸਤੁ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਯਕੇਸਤ ॥੧੩॥
ki ezad gavaahasat yazadaan yakesat |13|
The Lord Himself is the Witness.13.
ਨ ਕਤਰਹ ਮਰਾ ਏਤਬਾਰੇ ਬਰੋਸਤ ॥
n katarah maraa etabaare barosat |
I have not an iota of faith in such a person,
ਕਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਵ ਦੀਵਾਂ ਹਮਾ ਕਿਜ਼ਬ ਗੋਸ਼ਤ ॥੧੪॥
ki bakhashee v deevaan hamaa kizab goshat |14|
whose officers have relinquished the path of Truth.14.
ਕਸੇ ਕਉਲਿ ਕੁਰਆਂ ਕੁਨਦ ਏਤਬਾਰ ॥
kase kaul kuraan kunad etabaar |
Whosoever puts faith on the oath of Quran,
ਹਮਾ ਰੋਜ਼ਿ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਸ਼ਵਦ ਮਰਦ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਰ ॥੧੫॥
hamaa roz aakhar shavad marad khvaar |15|
he is subjected to punishment on the final reckoning.15.
ਹੁਮਾ ਰਾ ਕਸੇ ਸਾਯਹ ਆਯਦ ਬਜ਼ੇਰ ॥
humaa raa kase saayah aayad bazer |
He, who comes under the shade of the legendary Huma,
ਬਰੋ ਦਸਤ ਦਾਰਦ ਨ ਜ਼ਾਗ਼ੋ ਦਲੇਰ ॥੧੬॥
baro dasat daarad na zaago daler |16|
a very brave crow cannot harm him.16.
ਕਸੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਤ ਉਫ਼ਤਦ ਪਸੇ ਸ਼ੇਰਿ ਨਰ ॥
kase pushat ufatad pase sher nar |
He, who takes refuge of the fierce tiger
ਨ ਗੀਰਦ ਬੁਜ਼ੋ ਮੇਸ਼ੋ ਆਹੂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ॥੧੭॥
n geerad buzo mesho aahoo guzar |17|
The goat, sheep and deer do not go near him.17.
ਕਸਮ ਮੁਸਹਫ਼ੇ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਅਗਰ ਈਂ ਖ਼ੁਰਮ ॥
kasam musahafe khud agar een khuram |
Even if I had taken an oath on Quarn in concealment,
ਨ ਫ਼ੌਜੇ ਅਜ਼ੀਂ ਜ਼ੇਰਿ ਸੁਮ ਅਫ਼ਗਨਮ ॥੧੮॥
n fauaje azeen zer sum afaganam |18|
I would not have budhed and inch from my place.18.
ਗਰਸਨਹ ਚਿ ਕਾਰਿ ਕੁਨਦ ਚਿਹਲ ਨਰ ॥
garasanah chi kaar kunad chihal nar |
How could forty famished persons fight in the battlefield,
ਕਿ ਦਹ ਲਖ ਬਰਾਯਦ ਬਰੋ ਬੇਖ਼ਬਰ ॥੧੯॥
ki deh lakh baraayad baro bekhabar |19|
on whom ten lakh soldiers made a sudden attack.19.
ਕਿ ਪੈਮਾਂਸ਼ਿਕਨ ਬੇਦਰੰਗ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥
ki paimaanshikan bedarang aamadand |
Your army breaking the oath and in great haste
ਮਯਾਂ ਤੇਗ਼ੁ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥੨੦॥
mayaan teg teero tufang aamadand |20|
plunged in the battlefield with arrows and guns.20.
ਬ ਲਾਚਾਰਗੀ ਦਰਮਯਾਂ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥
b laachaaragee daramayaan aamadand |
For this reason, I had to intervene
ਬ ਤਦਬੀਰਿ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥੨੧॥
b tadabeer teero tufang aamadand |21|
and had to come fully armed.21.
ਚੁਂ ਕਾਰ ਅਜ਼ ਹਮਾ ਹੀਲਤੇ ਦਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਸ਼ਤ ॥
chun kaar az hamaa heelate dar guzashat |
When all other methods fail,
ਹਲਾਲ ਅਸਤ ਬੁਰਦਨ ਬ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੀਰ ਦਸਤ ॥੨੨॥
halaal asat buradan b shamasheer dasat |22|
it is proper to hold the sword in hand.22.
ਚਿ ਕਸਮਿ ਕੁਰਆ ਮਨ ਕੁਨਮ ਏਤਬਾਰ ॥
chi kasam kuraa man kunam etabaar |
I have no faith in your oaths on the Quarn,
ਵਗਰਨਹ ਤੁ ਗੋਈ ਮਨ ਈਂ ਰਹ ਚਿ ਕਾਰ ॥੨੩॥
vagaranah tu goee man een reh chi kaar |23|
otherwise I had nothing to do with this battle.23.
ਨ ਦਾਨਮ ਕਿ ਈਂ ਮਰਦਿ ਰੋਬਾਹਿ ਪੇਚ ॥
n daanam ki een marad robaeh pech |
I do not know that your officers are deceitful,
ਵਗਰ ਹਰਗਿਜ਼ੀਂ ਰਾਹ ਨਿਯਾਰਦ ਬਹੇਚ ॥੨੪॥
vagar haragizeen raah niyaarad bahech |24|
otherwise I would not have followed this path.24.
ਹਰਾਂ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਕਉਲੇ ਕੁਰਾਂ ਆਯਦਸ਼ ॥
haraan kas ki kaule kuraan aayadash |
It is not appropriated to imprison and kill those,
ਨਜ਼ੋ ਬਸਤਨੋ ਕੁਸ਼ਤਨੋ ਆਯਦਸ਼ ॥੨੫॥
nazo basatano kushatano aayadash |25|
who put faith on the oaths of Quarn.25.
ਬਰੰਗੇ ਮਗਸ ਸਯਾਹਪੋਸ਼ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥
barange magas sayaahaposh aamadand |
The soldiers of your army, clad in black uniforms,
ਬ ਯਕ ਬਾਰਗੀ ਦਰ ਖ਼ਰੋਸ਼ ਆਮਦੰਦ ॥੨੬॥
b yak baaragee dar kharosh aamadand |26|
rushed like flies on my men.26.
ਹਰਾਂ ਕਸ ਜ਼ਿ ਦੀਵਾਰ ਆਮਦ ਬਿਰੂੰ ॥
haraan kas zi deevaar aamad biroon |
Whosoever from them came near the wall of the fort,
ਬਖ਼ੁਰਦਨ ਯਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਗ਼ਰਕਿ ਖ਼ੂੰ ॥੨੭॥
bakhuradan yake teer shud garak khoon |27|
with one arrow he wos drenched in his won blood.27.
ਕਿ ਬੇਰੂੰ ਨਿਆਮਦ ਕਸੇ ਜ਼ਾ ਦੀਵਾਰ ॥
ki beroon niaamad kase zaa deevaar |
None dared to come there near the wall
ਨ ਖ਼ੁਰਦੰਦ ਤੀਰੋ ਨ ਗ਼ਸ਼ਤੰਦ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਰ ॥੨੮॥
n khuradand teero na gashatand khvaar |28|
None faced then the arrows and destruction.28.
ਚੁ ਦੀਦਮ ਕਿ ਨਾਹਰ ਬਿਆਮਦ ਬ ਜੰਗ ॥
chu deedam ki naahar biaamad b jang |
When I saw Nahar Khan in the battlefield,
ਚਸ਼ੀਦਹ ਯਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਮਨ ਬੇਦਰੰਗ ॥੨੯॥
chasheedah yake teer man bedarang |29|
he was greeted with one of my arrows.29.
ਹਮਾਖ਼ਰ ਗੁਰੇਜ਼ੰਦ ਬਜਾਏ ਮਸਾਫ਼ ॥
hamaakhar gurezand bajaae masaaf |
All those boasters who came near the wall,
ਬਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਗਰਦੰਦ ਬੇਰੂੰ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਫ਼ ॥੩੦॥
base khaan garadand beroon guzaaf |30|
they were dispatched in no time.30.
ਕਿ ਅਫ਼ਗ਼ਾਨਿ ਦੀਗਰ ਬਿਆਮਦ ਬ ਜੰਗ ॥
ki afagaan deegar biaamad b jang |
Another Afghan, with a bow and arrow
ਚੁ ਸੈਲੇ ਰਵਾਂ ਹਮਚੂੰ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ ॥੩੧॥
chu saile ravaan hamachoon teero tufang |31|
came in the battlefield like a flood.31.
ਬਸੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਦੰਦ ਬ ਮਰਦਾਨਗੀ ॥
base hamalaa karadand b maradaanagee |
He shot arrows heroically,
ਹਮ ਅਜ਼ ਹੋਸ਼ਗੀ ਹਮਅਜ਼ ਦੀਵਾਨਗੀ ॥੩੨॥
ham az hoshagee hamaz deevaanagee |32|
sometimes in senses and sometimes in madness.32.
ਬਸੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਦੰਦ ਬਸੇ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮ ਖ਼ੁਰਦ ॥
base hamalaa karadand base zakham khurad |
He made several attacks
ਦੁ ਕਸ ਰਾ ਬਜ਼ਾਂ ਕੁਸ਼ਤ ਹਮ ਜਾਂ ਸਪੁਰਦ ॥੩੩॥
du kas raa bazaan kushat ham jaan sapurad |33|
and was drenched with last.33.
ਕਿ ਆਂ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਜਾ ਮਰਦੂਦ ਸਾਯਹ ਦੀਵਾਰ ॥
ki aan khvaajaa maradood saayah deevaar |
Khwaja Mardud hid himself behind the wall
ਬਮੈਦਾਂ ਨਿਆਮਦ ਬਮਰਦਾਨਹ ਵਾਰ ॥੩੪॥
bamaidaan niaamad bamaradaanah vaar |34|
He did not enter the field like a brave warrior.34.
ਦਰੇਗ਼ਾ ਅਗਰ ਰੂਇ ਓ ਦੀਦਮੇ ॥
daregaa agar rooe o deedame |
If I had seen his face once,
ਬਯਕ ਤੀਰ ਲਾਚਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦਮੇ ॥੩੫॥
bayak teer laachaar bakhasheedame |35|
one of my arrows would have dispatched him to the abode of death.35.
ਹਮਾਖ਼ਰ ਬਸੇ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮਿ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ ॥
hamaakhar base zakham teero tufang |
Many warriors wounded with arrows and bullets
ਦੁਸੂਏ ਬਸੇ ਕੁਸ਼ਤਹ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਬੇਦਰੰਗ ॥੩੬॥
dusooe base kushatah shud bedarang |36|
died in the battle on both the sides.36.
ਬਸੇ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰੀਦ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ ॥
base baar baareed teero tufang |
The darts were showered so violently,
ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਗਸ਼ਤ ਹਮਚੂੰ ਗੁਲੇ ਲਾਲਹ ਰੰਗ ॥੩੭॥
zimeen gashat hamachoon gule laalah rang |37|
that the field became red like popyflowers.37.
ਸਰੋ ਪਾਇ ਅੰਬੋਹੁ ਚੰਦਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਦਹ ॥
saro paae anbohu chandaan shudah |
The heads and limbs of the dead were scattered in the field
ਕਿ ਮੈਦਾਂ ਪੁਰਜ਼ ਗੋਇ ਚੌਗਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਦਹ ॥੩੮॥
ki maidaan puraz goe chauagaan shudah |38|
like the balls and sticks in the game of Polo.38.
ਤਰੰਕਾਰਿ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗੋ ਕਮਾਂ ॥
tarankaar teero tufango kamaan |
When the arrows hissed and bows tinkled,
ਬਰਾਮਦ ਯਕੇ ਹਾ ਓ ਹੂ ਅਜ਼ ਜਹਾਂ ॥੩੯॥
baraamad yake haa o hoo az jahaan |39|
there was a great hue and cry in the world.39.
ਦਿਗਰ ਸ਼ੋਰਸ਼ੇ ਕੈਬਰੇ ਕੀਨਹ ਕੋਸ਼ ॥
digar shorashe kaibare keenah kosh |
There the spears and lances provided a dreadful sound
ਜ਼ਿ ਮਰਦਾਨਿ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਬਰੂੰ ਰਫ਼ਤ ਹੋਸ਼ ॥੪੦॥
zi maradaan maradaan baroon rafat hosh |40|
and the warriors lost heir senses.40.
ਹਮਾਖ਼ਰ ਚਿ ਮਰਦੀ ਕੁਨਦ ਕਾਰਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
hamaakhar chi maradee kunad kaarazaar |
How could bravery ultimately withstand in the field,
ਕਿ ਬਰ ਚਿਹਲ ਤਨ ਆਯਦਸ਼ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ॥੪੧॥
ki bar chihal tan aayadash beshumaar |41|
when only forty were surrounded by innumerable warriors?41.
ਚਰਾਗ਼ੇ ਜਹਾਂ ਚੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਦਹ ਬੁਰਕਾ ਪੋਸ਼ ॥
charaage jahaan choon shudah burakaa posh |
When the lamp of the world veiled itself,
ਸ਼ਹੇ ਸ਼ਬ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਹਮਹ ਜਲਵਾ ਜੋਸ਼ ॥੪੨॥
shahe shab baraamad hamah jalavaa josh |42|
the moon shone in brightness during the night.42.
ਹਰਾਂ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਕਉਲੇ ਕੁਰਆਂ ਆਯਦਸ਼ ॥
haraan kas ki kaule kuraan aayadash |
He, who puts faith on the oaths of the Quran,
ਕਿ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਬਰੋ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾ ਆਯਦਸ਼ ॥੪੩॥
ki yazadaan baro rahinumaa aayadash |43|
the Ture Lord gives him the guidance.43.
ਨ ਪੇਚੀਦਾ ਮੂਇ ਨ ਰੰਜੀਦਹ ਤਨ ॥
n pecheedaa mooe na ranjeedah tan |
There was neither any harm nor injury
ਕਿ ਬੇਰੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵਰਦ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਸ਼ਿਕਨ ॥੪੪॥
ki beroon khudaavarad dushaman shikan |44|
My Lord, the vanquisher of the enemies, brought me to safety.44.
ਨ ਦਾਨਮ ਕਿ ਈਂ ਮਰਦਿ ਪੈਮਾਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਨ ॥
n daanam ki een marad paimaan shikan |
I did not know that these oath-breakers
ਕਿ ਦੌਲਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਸਤੁ ਈਮਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਗਨ ॥੪੫॥
ki daualat prasatasat eemaan figan |45|
were deceitful and flowers of mammon.45.
ਨ ਈਮਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੀ ਨ ਅਉਜ਼ਾਇ ਦੀਂ ॥
n eemaan prasatee na aauzaae deen |
They were neither men of faith, nor true followers of Islam,
ਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸ਼ਨਾਸੀ ਨ ਮੁਹੰਮਦ ਯਕੀਂ ॥੪੬॥
n saahib shanaasee na muhamad yakeen |46|
they did not know the Lord not had faith in the prophet.46.
ਹਰਾਂ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਈਮਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
haraan kas ki eemaan prasatee kunad |
He, who follows his faith with sincerity,
ਨ ਪੈਮਾਂ ਖ਼ੁਦਸ਼ ਪੇਸ਼ੋ ਪਸਤੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੪੭॥
n paimaan khudash pesho pasatee kunad |47|
he never budges an inch from his oaths.47.
ਈਂ ਮਰਦ ਰਾ ਜ਼ੱਰਹ ਏਤਬਾਰ ਨੇਸਤ ॥
een marad raa zareh etabaar nesat |
I have no faith at all in such a person for whom
ਚਿ ਕਸਮੇ ਕੁਰਾਨਸਤ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਯਕੇਸਤ ॥੪੮॥
chi kasame kuraanasat yazadaan yakesat |48|
the oath of the Quran has no significance.48.
ਚੁ ਕਸਮਿ ਕੁਰਾਂ ਸਦ ਕੁਨਦ ਇਖ਼ਤਯਾਰ ॥
chu kasam kuraan sad kunad ikhatayaar |
Even if you swear a hundred times in the name of the Quran,
ਮਰਾ ਕਤਰਹ ਨਆਯਦ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਏਤਬਾਰ ॥੪੯॥
maraa katarah naayad azo etabaar |49|
I shall not trust you any more.49.
ਅਗਰਚਿ ਤੁਰਾ ਏਅਤਬਾਰ ਆਮਦੇ ॥
agarach turaa eatabaar aamade |
If you have even a little of faith in God,
ਕਮਰ ਬਸਤਏ ਪੇਸ਼ਵਾ ਆਮਦੇ ॥੫੦॥
kamar basate peshavaa aamade |50|
come in the battlefield fully armed.50.
ਕਿ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ਸਤ ਬਰਸਰਿ ਤੁਰਾ ਈਂ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ॥
ki farazasat barasar turaa een sukhan |
It is your duty act on these words,
ਕਿ ਕਉਲੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਅਸਤ ਕਸਮਸਤ ਮਨ ॥੫੧॥
ki kaule khudaa asat kasamasat man |51|
because for me, these words are like the Orders of God.51.
ਅਗਰ ਹਜ਼ਰਤਿ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਸਿਤਾਦਾ ਸ਼ਵਦ ॥
agar hazarat khud sitaadaa shavad |
If the Holy Prophet had been there himself,
ਬਜਾਨਿ ਦਿਲੇ ਕਾਰ ਵਾਜ਼ੇਹ ਸ਼ਵਦ ॥੫੨॥
bajaan dile kaar vaazeh shavad |52|
you would have acted on them with all your heart.52.
ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ਰਾ ਚੁ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ਸਤੁ ਕਾਰੇ ਕੁਨੀ ॥
shumaa raa chu farazasat kaare kunee |
It is your duty and a binding on you
ਬਮੂਜਬ ਨਵਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੇ ਕੁਨੀ ॥੫੩॥
bamoojab navishataa shumaare kunee |53|
to do as bidden in writing.53.
ਨਵਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਰਸੀਦੋ ਬਿਗੁਫ਼ਤਹ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਂ ॥
navishataa raseedo bigafateh zubaan |
I have received your letter and the message,
ਬਬਾਯਦ ਕਿ ਕਾਰੀਂ ਬਰਾਹਤ ਰਸਾਂ ॥੫੪॥
babaayad ki kaareen baraahat rasaan |54|
do, whatever is required to be done.54.
ਹਮੂੰ ਮਰਦ ਬਾਯਦ ਸ਼ਵਦ ਸੁਖ਼ਨਵਰ ॥
hamoon marad baayad shavad sukhanavar |
One should act on his words
ਨ ਸ਼ਿਕਮੇ ਦਿਗਰ ਦਰ ਦਹਾਨੇ ਦਿਗਰ ॥੫੫॥
n shikame digar dar dahaane digar |55|
The speech and action should correspond.55.
ਕਿ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਮਰਾ ਗੁਫ਼ਤਹ ਬੇਰੂੰ ਨਯਮ ॥
ki kaazee maraa gufateh beroon nayam |
I agree with the words conveyed by the Qazi,
ਅਗਰ ਰਾਸਤੀ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਬਿਯਾਰੀ ਕਦਮ ॥੫੬॥
agar raasatee khud biyaaree kadam |56|
but if you promise to come on the right path.56.
ਤੁਰਾ ਗਰ ਬਬਾਯਦ ੳਾਂ ਕਉਲੇ ਕੁਰਾਂ ॥
turaa gar babaayad aan kaule kuraan |
If you want to see the letter containing oaths,
ਬਨਿਜ਼ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ਰਾ ਰਸਾਨਮ ਹਮਾ ॥੫੭॥
banizade shumaa raa rasaanam hamaa |57|
I can send you the same immediatedly.57.
ਕਿ ਤਸ਼ਰੀਫ ਦਰ ਕਸਬਹ ਕਾਂਗੜ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
ki tashareef dar kasabah kaangarr kunad |
If you come yourself in village Kangar,
ਵਜ਼ਾਂ ਪਸ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਬਾਹਮ ਸ਼ਵਦ ॥੫੮॥
vazaan pas mulaakaat baaham shavad |58|
we can meet each other.58.
ਨ ਜ਼ੱਰਹ ਦਰੀਂ ਰਾਹਿ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਤੁਰਾਸਤ ॥
n zareh dareen raeh khataraa turaasat |
Do not bring in your mind the danger of coming there
ਹਮਹ ਕੌਮਿ ਬੈਰਾੜ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮਰਾਸਤ ॥੫੯॥
hamah kauam bairaarr hukame maraasat |59|
Because the Brar community acts according to my orders.59.
ਬਯਾ ਤਾ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨੀ ਕੁਨੇਮ ॥
bayaa taa sukhan khud zubaanee kunem |
We can talk to each other in this way
ਬਰੂਇ ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨੀ ਕੁਨੇਮ ॥੬੦॥
barooe shumaa miharabaanee kunem |60|
Kindly come so that we may have direct talk.60.
ਯਕੇ ਅਸਪ ਸ਼ਾਇਸਤਏ ਯਕ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
yake asap shaaeisate yak hazaar |
Your saying that I may bring for you a very fine steed of one thousand rupees and
ਬਯਾ ਤਾ ਬਗੀਰੀ ਬ ਮਨ ਈਂ ਦਯਾਰ ॥੬੧॥
bayaa taa bageeree b man een dayaar |61|
Get this area as a feoff (jagir) from you, you may keep this thing in your mind.61.
ਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਰਾ ਬੰਦਹਏ ਚਾਕਰੇਮ ॥
shahinashaah raa bandahe chaakarem |
I am the man of the Sovereign of Sovereign and His slave
ਅਗਰ ਹੁਕਮ ਆਯਦ ਬਜਾਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੇਮ ॥੬੨॥
agar hukam aayad bajaan haazarem |62|
If He permits me, then I shall present myself there.62.
ਗਰਚਿ ਬਿਆਯਦ ਬ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਨਿ ਮਨ ॥
garach biaayad b furamaan man |
If He permits me,
ਹਜ਼ੂਰਤੁ ਬਿਆਯਮ ਹਮਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਤਨ ॥੬੩॥
hazoorat biaayam hamah jaano tan |63|
then I shall be present there in person.63.
ਅਗਰ ਤੂ ਬਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੀ ਕੁਨੀ ॥
agar too bayazadaan prasatee kunee |
If you worship One Lord,
ਬ ਕਾਰੇ ਮਰਾ ਈਂ ਨ ਸੁਸਤੀ ਕੁਨੀ ॥੬੪॥
b kaare maraa een na susatee kunee |64|
you will not cause any delay in this work of mine.64.
ਬਬਾਯਦ ਕਿ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਸ਼ਨਾਸੀ ਕੁਨੀ ॥
babaayad ki yazadaan shanaasee kunee |
You should recognize the Lord,
ਨ ਗ਼ੁਫ਼ਤਹ ਕਸੇ ਕਸ ਖ਼ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਕੁਨੀ ॥੬੫॥
n gufateh kase kas kharaashee kunee |65|
so that you may not talk ill or cause injury to anybody.65.
ਤੂ ਮਸਨਦ ਨਸ਼ੀਂ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਾਯਨਾਤ ॥
too masanad nasheen saravar kaayanaat |
You are the Sovereign of the world and you sit on the throne,
ਕਿ ਅਜਬਸਤ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਈਂ ਹਮ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਤ ॥੬੬॥
ki ajabasat inasaaf een ham sifaat |66|
but I wonder at your ill acts of injustice.66.
ਕਿ ਅਜਬਸਤੁ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ੋ ਦੀਂ ਪਰਵਰੀ ॥
ki ajabasat inasaafo deen paravaree |
I wonder at your acts of piety and justice
ਕਿ ਹੈਫ਼ ਅਸਤ ਸਦ ਹੈਫ਼ ਈਂ ਸਰਵਰੀ ॥੬੭॥
ki haif asat sad haif een saravaree |67|
I feel sorry at your sovereignty.67.
ਕਿ ਅਜਬਸਤੁ ਅਜਬਸਤੁ ਫ਼ਤਵਹ ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ॥
ki ajabasat ajabasat fatavah shumaa |
I wonder very much regarding your faith
ਬਜੁਜ਼ ਰਾਸਤੀ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਗੁਫ਼ਤਨ ਜ਼ਿਯਾਂ ॥੬੮॥
bajuz raasatee sukhan gufatan ziyaan |68|
Anything said against truth brings downfall.68.
ਮਜ਼ਨ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਰ ਖ਼ੂੰਨਿ ਕਸ ਬੇਦਰੇਗ਼ ॥
mazan teg bar khoon kas bedareg |
Do not be rash in striking your sword on helpless,
ਤੁਰਾ ਨੀਜ਼ ਖ਼ੂੰ ਚਰਖ਼ ਬਤੇਗ਼ ॥੬੯॥
turaa neez khoon charakh bateg |69|
otherwise the Providence will shed your blood.69.
ਤੂ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਮਸ਼ੌ ਮਰਦਿ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਹਿਰਾਸ ॥
too gaafal mashau marad yazadaan hiraas |
Do not be careless, recognize the Lord,
ਕਿ ਓ ਬੇਨਯਾਜ਼ਸਤੁ ਓ ਬੇਸਪਾਸ ॥੭੦॥
ki o benayaazasat o besapaas |70|
who is averse to greed and flattery.70.
ਕਿ ਊ ਬੇਮੁਹਾਬਸਤੁ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਨਿਸ਼ਾਹ ॥
ki aoo bemuhaabasat shaahaanishaah |
He, the Sovereign of Sovereigns, fears none
ਜ਼ਿਮੀਨੋ ਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਰਾ ਸੱਚਾਏ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ॥੭੧॥
zimeeno zamaan raa sachaae paatashaah |71|
He is the Master of the earth and heavens.71.
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦਿ ਏਜ਼ਦ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਨੋ ਜ਼ਮਾ ॥
khudaavand ezad zimeeno zamaa |
He, the True Lord, is the Master of both the worlds
ਕੁਨਿੰਦਸਤ ਹਰ ਕਸ ਮਕੀਨੋ ਮਕਾਂ ॥੭੨॥
kunindasat har kas makeeno makaan |72|
He is the Creator of all the creatures of the universe.72.
ਹਮਅਜ਼ ਪਰਿ ਮੋਰੋ ਹਮਜ਼ ਪੀਲਤਨ ॥
hamaz par moro hamaz peelatan |
He is the Presever of all, from ant to elephant
ਕਿ ਆਜਿਜ਼ ਨਿਵਾਜ਼ਸਤੁ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਸ਼ਿਕਨ ॥੭੩॥
ki aajiz nivaazasat gaafal shikan |73|
He gives strength to the helpless and destroys the careless.73.
ਕਿ ਊ ਰਾ ਚੁ ਇਸਮਸਤ ਆਜਿਜ਼ ਨਿਵਾਜ਼ ॥
ki aoo raa chu isamasat aajiz nivaaz |
The True Lord is known as ‘Prtector of the lowly’
ਕਿ ਊ ਬੇ ਸਪਾਸ ਅਸਤ ਓ ਬੇ ਨਿਆਜ਼ ॥੭੪॥
ki aoo be sapaas asat o be niaaz |74|
He is carefree and free from want.74.
ਕਿ ਓ ਬੇਨਿਗੂੰ ਅਸਤ ਓ ਬੇਚਗੂੰ ॥
ki o benigoon asat o bechagoon |
He is Unassailable and Unparalleled
ਕਿ ਓ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾ ਅਸਤ ਓ ਰਹਿਨਮੂੰ ॥੭੫॥
ki o rahinumaa asat o rahinamoon |75|
He shows the path as a Guide.75.
ਕਿ ਬਰਸਰ ਤੁਰਾ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਕਸਮਿ ਕੁਰਆਂ ॥
ki barasar turaa faraz kasam kuraan |
You are strained by the oath of the Quran,
ਬ ਗੁਫ਼ਤਹ ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ਕਾਰਿ ਖ਼ੂਬੀ ਰਸਾਂ ॥੭੬॥
b gufateh shumaa kaar khoobee rasaan |76|
therefore, fulfil the promise made by you.76.
ਬਬਾਯਦ ਤੁ ਦਾਨਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੀ ਕੁਨੀ ॥
babaayad tu daanash prasatee kunee |
It is appropriate for you to become sane
ਬ ਕਾਰਿ ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ਚੀਰਹ ਦਸਤੀ ਕੁਨੀ ॥੭੭॥
b kaar shumaa cheerah dasatee kunee |77|
and do your task with severity.77.
ਚਿਹਾ ਸ਼ੁਦ ਕਿ ਚੂੰ ਬੱਚਗਾਂ ਕੁਸ਼ਤਹ ਚਾਰ ॥
chihaa shud ki choon bachagaan kushatah chaar |
What, if you have killed my four sons,
ਕਿ ਬਾਕੀ ਬਿਮਾਂਦਸਤ ਪੇਚੀਦਾ ਮਾਰ ॥੭੮॥
ki baakee bimaandasat pecheedaa maar |78|
the hooded cobra still sits coiled up.78.
ਚਿ ਮਰਦੀ ਕਿ ਅਖ਼ਗਰ ਖ਼ਾਮੋਸ਼ਾ ਕੁਨੀ ॥
chi maradee ki akhagar khaamoshaa kunee |
What type of bravery it is to extinguish the speak
ਕਿ ਆਤਸ਼ ਦਮਾਂ ਰਾ ਬਦਉਰਾਂ ਕੁਨੀ ॥੭੯॥
ki aatash damaan raa bdauraan kunee |79|
of fire and fan the flames.79.
ਚਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਗੁਫ਼ਤ ਫ਼ਿਰਦੌਸੀਏ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਂ ॥
chi khush gufat firadauasee khush zubaan |
Listen to this well-said quotation of Firdausi:
ਸ਼ਿਤਾਬੀ ਬਵਦ ਕਾਰਿ ਅਹਰਿਮਨਾ ॥੮੦॥
shitaabee bavad kaar aharimanaa |80|
"The hasty action is the work of Satan".80.
ਕਿ ਮਾ ਬਾਰਗਹਿ ਹਜ਼ਰਤ ਆਯਮ ਸ਼ੁਮਾ ॥
ki maa baarageh hazarat aayam shumaa |
I have also come from the abode of Your Lord,
ਅਜ਼ਾਂ ਰੋਜ਼ ਬਾਸ਼ੀ ਵ ਸ਼ਾਹਿਦ ਹਮਾ ॥੮੧॥
azaan roz baashee v shaahid hamaa |81|
who will be the witness on the day of Judgement.81.
ਵਗਰਨਹ ਤੁ ਈਂ ਰਾ ਫ਼ਰਾਮੁਸ਼ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
vagaranah tu een raa faraamush kunad |
If you prepare yourself for the good action,
ਤੁਰਾ ਹਮ ਫ਼ਰਾਮੋਸ਼ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੮੨॥
turaa ham faraamosh yazadaan kunad |82|
the Lord will give you an apt reward.82.
ਬਰੀਂ ਕਾਰਿ ਗਰ ਤੂ ਬ ਬਸਤੀ ਕਮਰ ॥
bareen kaar gar too b basatee kamar |
If you forget this task of Justice,
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਤੁਰਾ ਬਹਿਰਾਵਰ ॥੮੩॥
khudaavand baashad turaa bahiraavar |83|
the Lord will forget you.83.
ਕਿ ਈਂ ਕਾਰ ਨੇਕਸਤੁ ਦੀਂ ਪਰਵਰੀ ॥
ki een kaar nekasat deen paravaree |
The righteous has to tread the path of truth and virtue,
ਚੁ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਸ਼ਨਾਸੀ ਬ ਜਾਂ ਬਰਤਰੀ ॥੮੪॥
chu yazadaan shanaasee b jaan barataree |84|
but it is still better to recognize the Lord.84.
ਤੁਰਾ ਮਨ ਨ ਦਾਨਮ ਕਿ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਸ਼ਨਾਸ ॥
turaa man na daanam ki yazadaan shanaas |
I do not believe that man recognizes the Lord,
ਬਰਾਮਦ ਜ਼ਿ ਤੋ ਕਾਰਹਾ ਦਿਲ ਖ਼ਰਾਸ਼ ॥੮੫॥
baraamad zi to kaarahaa dil kharaash |85|
who injures the sentiments of others through his action.85.
ਸ਼ਨਾਸਦ ਹਮੀਂ ਤੂ ਨ ਯਜ਼ਦਾ ਕਰੀਮ ॥
shanaasad hameen too na yazadaa kareem |
The Ture and Merciful Lord does not love you,
ਨ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਹਦ ਹਮੀ ਤੂ ਬਦੌਲਤ ਅਜ਼ੀਮ ॥੮੬॥
n khvaaehad hamee too badaualat azeem |86|
though you have unaccountable wealth.86.
ਅਗਰ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਆਂ ਬਖ਼ੁਰਦੀ ਕਸਮ ॥
agar sad kuraan bakhuradee kasam |
Even if you swear a hundred times by the Quran,
ਮਰਾ ਏਅਤਬਾਰੇ ਨ ਈਂ ਜ਼ੱਰਹ ਦਮ ॥੮੭॥
maraa eatabaare na een zareh dam |87|
I shall never trust you.87.
ਹਜ਼ੂਰਤੁ ਨ ਆਯਮ ਨ ਈਂ ਰਹ ਸ਼ਵਮ ॥
hazoorat na aayam na een reh shavam |
I cannot come to you and am not prepared to tread your path of oaths
ਅਗਰ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਖ਼੍ਵਾਹਦ ਮਨ ਆਂ ਜਾ ਰਵਮ ॥੮੮॥
agar shaah bakhvaaehad man aan jaa ravam |88|
I shall go, wherever my Lord will ask me to go.88.
ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਸ਼ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਨਿ ਅਉਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ॥
khushash shaah shaahaan aaurangazeb |
You are king of king, O fortunate Aurangzeb
ਕਿ ਚਾਲਾਕ ਦਸਤਸਤ ਚਾਬਕ ਰਕੇਬ ॥੮੯॥
ki chaalaak dasatasat chaabak rakeb |89|
You are a clever administrator and a good horseman.89.
ਚਿ ਹੁਸਨੁਲ ਜਮਾਲਸਤ ਰੳਸਸ਼ਨ ਜ਼ਮੀਰ ॥
chi husanul jamaalasat rasashan zameer |
With the help of your intelligence and the sword,
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦਿ ਮੁਲਕ ਅਸਤ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਅਮੀਰ ॥੯੦॥
khudaavand mulak asat saahib ameer |90|
you have become the master of Deg and Tegh.90.
ਬਤਰਤੀਬ ਦਾਨਿਸ਼ ਬਤਦਬੀਰ ਤੇਗ਼ ॥
batarateeb daanish batadabeer teg |
You are the acme of beauty and wisdom
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦਿ ਦੇਗ਼ੋ ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦਿ ਤੇਗ਼ ॥੯੧॥
khudaavand dego khudaavand teg |91|
You are the chief of chiefs and the king.91.
ਕਿ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਜ਼ਮੀਰ ਅਸਤ ਹੁਸਨੁਲ ਜਮਾਲ ॥
ki rauashan zameer asat husanul jamaal |
You are the acme of beauty and wisdom
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਏ ਮੁਲਕੋ ਮਾਲ ॥੯੨॥
khudaavand bakhashinde mulako maal |92|
You are the master of the country and its wealth.92.
ਕਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਸਤ ਦਰ ਜੰਗ ਕੋਹ ॥
ki bakhashish kabeer asat dar jang koh |
You are most generous and a mountain in the battlefield
ਮਲਾਇਕ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਚੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਯਾ ਸ਼ਿਕੋਹ ॥੯੩॥
malaaeik sifat choon surayaa shikoh |93|
You are like angels wielding high splendour.93.
ਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਉਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਆਲਮੀਂ ॥
shahinashaah aaurangazeb aalameen |
Though you are the king of kings, O Aurangzeb!
ਕਿ ਦਾਰਾਇ ਦੌਰ ਅਸਤ ਦੂਰਸਤ ਦੀਂ ॥੯੪॥
ki daaraae dauar asat doorasat deen |94|
You are far from righteousness and justice.94.
ਮਨਮ ਕੁਸ਼ਤਨਮ ਕੋਹੀਆਂ ਪੁਰ ਫ਼ਿਤਨ ॥
manam kushatanam koheean pur fitan |
I vanquished the vicious hill chiefs,
ਕਿ ਓ ਬੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੰਦ ਮਨ ਬੁਤ ਸ਼ਿਕਨ ॥੯੫॥
ki o but prasatand man but shikan |95|
they were idol-worshippers and I am idol-breaker.95.
ਬਬੀਂ ਗਰਦਸ਼ੇ ਬੇਵਫ਼ਾਏ ਜ਼ਮਾਂ ॥
babeen garadashe bevafaae zamaan |
Look at the time-cycle,
ਪਸੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਤ ਉਫ਼ਤਦ ਰਸਾਨਦ ਜ਼ਯਾ ॥੯੬॥
pase pushat ufatad rasaanad zayaa |96|
quite undependable whosoever it pursues, it brings his decline.96.
ਬਬੀਂ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਨੇਕ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਨਿ ਪਾਕ ॥
babeen kudarat nek yazadaan paak |
Think of the power of the Holy Lord,
ਅਜ਼ ਯਕ ਬ ਦਹ ਲਖ਼ ਰਸਾਨਦ ਹਲਾਕ ॥੯੭॥
az yak b deh lakh rasaanad halaak |97|
which causes one persons to kill lakhs of people.97.
ਚਿ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਕੁਨਦ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਂ ਅਸਤ ਦੋਸਤ ॥
chi dushaman kunad miharabaan asat dosat |
If God is friendly, no enemy can do anything
ਕਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਰਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦਹ ਓਸਤ ॥੯੮॥
ki bakhashindagee kaar bakhashindah osat |98|
The generous action proceed from the merciful Lord.98.
ਰਿਹਾਈ ਦਿਹੋ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾਈ ਦਿਹਦ ॥
rihaaee diho rahinumaaee dihad |
He is the Emancipator and the Guide,
ਜ਼ਬਾ ਰਾ ਬ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਆਸ਼ਨਾਈ ਦਿਹਦ ॥੯੯॥
zabaa raa b sifat aashanaaee dihad |99|
who causes our tongue to sing His Praises.99.
ਖ਼ਸਮ ਰਾ ਚੁ ਕੋਰ ਊ ਕੁਨਦ ਵਕਤੇ ਕਾਰ ॥
khasam raa chu kor aoo kunad vakate kaar |
In throubled times He withdraws the faculty of sight from the enemies
ਯਤੀਮਾਂ ਬਿਰੂੰ ਬੁਰਦ ਬੇਜ਼ਖ਼ਮ ਖ਼ਾਰ ॥੧੦੦॥
yateemaan biroon burad bezakham khaar |100|
He releases without injury the suppressed and the lowly.100.
ਹਰਾਂ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਊ ਰਾਸਤਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
haraan kas ki aoo raasatabaazee kunad |
He, who is truthful and follows the right path,
ਰਹੀਮੇ ਬਰੋ ਰਹਿਮਸਾਜ਼ੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੧੦੧॥
raheeme baro rahimasaazee kunad |101|
the Merciful Lord is Graceful towards him.101.
ਕਸੇ ਖ਼ਿਦਮਤ ਆਯਦ ਬਸੇ ਦਿਲੋ ਜਾਂ ॥
kase khidamat aayad base dilo jaan |
He, who surrenders his mind and body to Him,
ਖ਼ੁਦਾਵੰਦ ਬਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੰਦ ਬਰ ਵੈ ਅਮਾਂ ॥੧੦੨॥
khudaavand bi bakhashand bar vai amaan |102|
the True Lord is Graceful towards him.102.
ਚਿ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਕਜ਼ਾਂ ਹੀਲਹਸਾਜ਼ੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
chi dushaman kazaan heelahasaazee kunad |
No enemy can ever beguile him,
ਅਗਰ ਰਹਿਨੁਮਾ ਬਰ ਵੈ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਸ਼ਵਦ ॥੧੦੩॥
agar rahinumaa bar vai raazee shavad |103|
on whom the Merciful Lord showers His Graces.103.
ਅਗਰ ਬਰ ਯਕਾਯਦ ਦਹੋ ਦਹ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
agar bar yakaayad daho deh hazaar |
When one man is attacked by lakh,
ਨਿਗਹਬਾਨ ਓ ਰਾ ਸ਼ਵਦ ਕਰਦਗਾਰ ॥੧੦੪॥
nigahabaan o raa shavad karadagaar |104|
the Generous Lord gives him protection.104.
ਤੁਰਾ ਗਰ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹਸਤ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਵ ਜ਼ਰ ॥
turaa gar nazar hasat lashakar v zar |
Just as our hopes lie in your wealth,
ਕਿ ਮਾਰਾ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾਅਸਤ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ॥੧੦੫॥
ki maaraa nighaasat yazadaan shukar |105|
I depend upon the Grace of the Lord.105.
ਕਿ ਤੋ ਰਾ ਗ਼ਰੂਰ ਅਸਤ ਬਰ ਮੁਲਕੋ ਮਾਲ ॥
ki to raa garoor asat bar mulako maal |
You are proud of your kingdom and wealth,
ਵ ਮਾਰਾ ਪਨਾਹ ਅਸਤ ਯਜ਼ਦਾਂ ਅਕਾਲ ॥੧੦੬॥
v maaraa panaah asat yazadaan akaal |106|
but I take refuge in the Non-Temporal Lord.106.
ਤੁ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਮਸ਼ੌ ਜ਼ੀ ਸਿਪੰਜੀ ਸਰਾਇ ॥
tu gaafal mashau zee sipanjee saraae |
Do not be careless about this fact that this saraae (resting place)
ਕਿ ਆਲਮ ਬਿਗੁਜ਼ਰਦ ਸਰੇ ਜਾ ਬਜਾਇ ॥੧੦੭॥
ki aalam biguzarad sare jaa bajaae |107|
is not the permanent abode.107.
ਬਬੀਂ ਗਰਦਸ਼ਿ ਬੇਵਫ਼ਾਇ ਜ਼ਮਾਂ ॥
babeen garadash bevafaae zamaan |
Look at the time-cycle, which is undependable
ਕਿ ਬਿਗੁਜ਼ਸਤ ਬਰ ਹਰ ਮਕੀਨੋ ਮਕਾਂ ॥੧੦੮॥
ki biguzasat bar har makeeno makaan |108|
It gives a fatal blow to everthing of this world.108.
ਤੂ ਗਰ ਜ਼ਬਰ ਆਜਿਜ਼ ਖ਼ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਮਕੁਨ ॥
too gar zabar aajiz kharaashee makun |
Do not oppose the lowly and helpless
ਕਸਮ ਰਾ ਬਤੇਸ਼ਹ ਤਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਮਕੁਨ ॥੧੦੯॥
kasam raa bateshah taraashee makun |109|
Do not break the oaths taken on the Quran.109.
ਚੂੰ ਹੱਕ ਯਾਰ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਚਿ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਕੁਨਦ ॥
choon hak yaar baashad chi dushaman kunad |
If God is friendly, what the enemy can do?
ਅਗਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਰਾ ਬਸਦ ਤਨ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੧੧੦॥
agar dushamanee raa basad tan kunad |110|
Though he may be inimical in many ways.110.
ਖ਼ਸਮ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨੀ ਗਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਆਵੁਰਦ ॥
khasam dushamanee gar hazaar aavurad |
The enemy may try to give a thousand blows,
ਨ ਯਕ ਮੂਇ ਓ ਰਾ ਆਜ਼ਾਰ ਆਵੁਰਦ ॥੧੧੧॥੧॥
n yak mooe o raa aazaar aavurad |111|1|
but he cannot harm even one hair (if God is friendly).111.
