Your Name embellishes us; it is the object of the awakened mind.
ਨਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥

ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਨਾਉ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥
naau teraa lasakar naau sulataan |
Your Name is my army; Your Name is my king.
ਨਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਾਣੁ ਮਹਤ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
naae terai maan mehat paravaan |

ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
naau teraa amrit bikh utth jaae |
Your Name is the Ambrosial Nectar which cleans out the poison.
ਨਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
naae terai sabh sukh vaseh man aae |
Through Your Name, all peace and comfort comes to abide in the mind.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
bin naavai baadhee jam pur jaae |3|
Without the Name, they are bound and gagged, and dragged off to the City of Death. ||3||
ਨਾਰੀ ਬੇਰੀ ਘਰ ਦਰ ਦੇਸ ॥
naaree beree ghar dar des |
Man is involved with his wife, hearth and home, land and country,
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਕੀਚਹਿ ਵੇਸ ॥
man keea khuseea keecheh ves |
the pleasures of the mind and fine clothes;
ਜਾਂ ਸਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
jaan sade taan dtil na paae |
but when the call comes, he cannot delay.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੂੜੋ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak koorr koorro hoe jaae |4|1|
O Nanak, in the end, the false turn out to be false. ||4||1||

Your Name is the Jewel, and Your Grace is the Light. In awareness, there is Your Light.
ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਅੰਧੀ ਵਾਪਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਲੀਜੈ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥
andher andhee vaaparai sagal leejai khoe |1|
Darkness fills the dark, and then everything is lost. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
eihu sansaar sagal bikaar |
This whole world is corrupt.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਸਤਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Your Name is the only cure; nothing else works, O Infinite Creator Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਤਾਲ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਏਕ ਭਾਰ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋੜਿ ॥
paataal pureea ek bhaar hoveh laakh karorr |
One side of the scale holds tens of thousands, millions of nether regions and realms.
ਤੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਤਾ ਪਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਸਿਰੈ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਹੋਰਿ ॥੨॥
tere laal keemat taa pavai jaan sirai hoveh hor |2|
O my Beloved, Your Worth could only be estimated if something else could be placed on the other side of the scale. ||2||
ਦੂਖਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਊਪਜਹਿ ਸੂਖੀ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥
dookhaa te sukh aoopajeh sookhee hoveh dookh |
Out of pain, pleasure is produced, and out of pleasure comes pain.
ਜਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਤੂ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਅਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ॥੩॥
jit mukh too saalaaheeeh tith mukh kaisee bhookh |3|
That mouth which praises You - what hunger could that mouth ever suffer? ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਲਾ ਸੈਸਾਰੁ ॥
naanak moorakh ek too avar bhalaa saisaar |
O Nanak, you alone are foolish; all the rest of the world is good.
ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੪॥੨॥
jit tan naam na aoopajai se tan hohi khuaar |4|2|
That body in which the Naam does not well up - that body becomes miserable. ||4||2||
