ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥

O Lord, please bless me with the Touch of the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone.
ਹਮ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੀ ਮਨੂਰ ਅਤਿ ਫੀਕੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham niragunee manoor at feeke mil satigur paaras keejai |1| rahaau |
I was unworthy, utterly useless, rusty slag; meeting with the True Guru, I was transformed by the Philosopher's Stone. ||1||Pause||
ਸੁਰਗ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਭਿ ਬਾਂਛਹਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
surag mukat baikuntth sabh baanchheh nit aasaa aas kareejai |
Everyone longs for paradise, liberation and heaven; all place their hopes in them.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਮਾਂਗਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
har darasan ke jan mukat na maangeh mil darasan tripat man dheejai |1|
The humble long for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; they do not ask for liberation. Their minds are satisfied and comforted by His Darshan. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਲੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ਮੋਹੁ ਕਾਲਖ ਦਾਗ ਲਗੀਜੈ ॥
maaeaa mohu sabal hai bhaaree mohu kaalakh daag lageejai |
Emotional attachment to Maya is very powerful; this attachment is a black stain which sticks.
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਪੰਕੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
mere tthaakur ke jan alipat hai mukate jiau muragaaee pank na bheejai |2|
The humble servants of my Lord and Master are unattached and liberated. They are like ducks, whose feathers do not get wet. ||2||
ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸੁ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮ ਵੇੜੀ ਕਿਵ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
chandan vaas bhueiangam verree kiv mileeai chandan leejai |
The fragrant sandalwood tree is encircled by snakes; how can anyone get to the sandalwood?
ਕਾਢਿ ਖੜਗੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਛੇਦਿ ਛੇਦਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੩॥
kaadt kharrag gur giaan karaaraa bikh chhed chhed ras peejai |3|
Drawing out the Mighty Sword of the Guru's Spiritual Wisdom, I slaughter and kill the poisonous snakes, and drink in the Sweet Nectar. ||3||
ਆਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਸਮਧਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਪਲੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਭਸਮ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
aan aan samadhaa bahu keenee pal baisantar bhasam kareejai |
You may gather wood and stack it in a pile, but in an instant, fire reduces it to ashes.
ਮਹਾ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਕੀਨੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਲੂਕੀ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
mahaa ugr paap saakat nar keene mil saadhoo lookee deejai |4|
The faithless cynic gathers the most horrendous sins, but meeting with the Holy Saint, they are placed in the fire. ||4||
ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥
saadhoo saadh saadh jan neeke jin antar naam dhareejai |
The Holy, Saintly devotees are sublime and exalted. They enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, deep within.
ਪਰਸ ਨਿਪਰਸੁ ਭਏ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ਦਿਖੀਜੈ ॥੫॥
paras niparas bhe saadhoo jan jan har bhagavaan dikheejai |5|
By the touch of the Holy and the humble servants of the Lord, the Lord God is seen. ||5||
ਸਾਕਤ ਸੂਤੁ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਰਝੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਨੁ ਤਨੀਜੈ ॥
saakat soot bahu gurajhee bhariaa kiau kar taan taneejai |
The thread of the faithless cynic is totally knotted and tangled; how can anything be woven with it?
ਤੰਤੁ ਸੂਤੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
tant soot kichh nikasai naahee saakat sang na keejai |6|
This thread cannot be woven into yarn; do not associate with those faithless cynics. ||6||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਨੀਕੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
satigur saadhasangat hai neekee mil sangat raam raveejai |
The True Guru and the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, are exalted and sublime. Joining the Congregation, meditate on the Lord.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
antar ratan javehar maanak gur kirapaa te leejai |7|
The gems, jewels and precious stones are deep within; by Guru's Grace, they are found. ||7||
ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਵਡਾ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲਹ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ ॥
meraa tthaakur vaddaa vaddaa hai suaamee ham kiau kar milah mileejai |
My Lord and Master is Glorious and Great. How can I be united in His Union?
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak mel milaae gur pooraa jan kau pooran deejai |8|2|
O Nanak, the Perfect Guru unites His humble servant in His Union, and blesses him with perfection. ||8||2||

Chant the Name of the Lord, the Lord, the All-pervading Lord.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhoo saadh saadh jan neeke mil saadhoo har rang keejai |1| rahaau |
The Holy, the humble and Holy, are noble and sublime. Meeting with the Holy, I joyfully love the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲਤ ਡੋਲ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
jeea jant sabh jag hai jetaa man ddolat ddol kareejai |
The minds of all the beings and creatures of the world waver unsteadily.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਥੰਮਨ ਕਉ ਥੰਮੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
kripaa kripaa kar saadh milaavahu jag thaman kau tham deejai |1|
Please take pity on them, be merciful to them, and unite them with the Holy; establish this support to support the world. ||1||
ਬਸੁਧਾ ਤਲੈ ਤਲੈ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਨ ਰੁਲੀਜੈ ॥
basudhaa talai talai sabh aoopar mil saadhoo charan ruleejai |
The earth is beneath us, and yet its dust falls down on all; let yourself be covered by the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਅਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਅਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਵਹੁ ਸਭ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਚਰਨ ਤਲ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
at aootam at aootam hovahu sabh sisatt charan tal deejai |2|
You shall be utterly exalted, the most noble and sublime of all; the whole world will place itself at your feet. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਭਲੀ ਸਿਵ ਨੀਕੀ ਆਨਿ ਪਾਨੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥
guramukh jot bhalee siv neekee aan paanee sakat bhareejai |
The Gurmukhs are blessed with the Divine Light of the Lord; Maya comes to serve them.
ਮੈਨਦੰਤ ਨਿਕਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਾਰੁ ਚਬਿ ਚਬਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੩॥
mainadant nikase gur bachanee saar chab chab har ras peejai |3|
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, they bite with teeth of wax and chew iron, drinking in the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||3||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ ॥
raam naam anugrahu bahu keea gur saadhoo purakh mileejai |
The Lord has shown great mercy, and bestowed His Name; I have met with the Holy Guru, the Primal Being.
ਗੁਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਸਥੀਰਨ ਕੀਏ ਹਰਿ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
gun raam naam bisatheeran kee har sagal bhavan jas deejai |4|
The Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name have spread out everywhere; the Lord bestows fame all over the world. ||4||
ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਜੈ ॥
saadhoo saadh saadh man preetam bin dekhe reh na sakeejai |
The Beloved Lord is within the minds of the Holy, the Holy Saadhus; without seeing Him, they cannot survive.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮੀਨ ਜਲੰ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਫੂਟਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥੫॥
jiau jal meen jalan jal preet hai khin jal bin foott mareejai |5|
The fish in the water loves only the water. Without water, it bursts and dies in an instant. ||5||
ਮਹਾ ਅਭਾਗ ਅਭਾਗ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਨ ਪੀਜੈ ॥
mahaa abhaag abhaag hai jin ke tin saadhoo dhoor na peejai |
Those who have terrible luck and bad fortune do not drink in the water which washes the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਤਿਨਾ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਜਲਤ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
tinaa tisanaa jalat jalat nahee boojheh ddandd dharam raae kaa deejai |6|
The burning fire of their desires is not extinguished; they are beaten and punished by the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ||6||
ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਜਗੵ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀਏ ਹਿਵੈ ਗਾਲਿ ਗਾਲਿ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
sabh teerath barat jagay pun kee hivai gaal gaal tan chheejai |
You may visit all the sacred shrines, observe fasts and sacred feasts, give generously in charity and waste away the body, melting it in the snow.
ਅਤੁਲਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੋ ਪੁਜੈ ਨ ਤੋਲ ਤੁਲੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
atulaa tol raam naam hai guramat ko pujai na tol tuleejai |7|
The weight of the Lord's Name is unweighable, according to the Guru's Teachings; nothing can equal its weight. ||7||
ਤਵ ਗੁਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੂ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੀਜੈ ॥
tav gun braham braham too jaaneh jan naanak saran pareejai |
O God, You alone know Your Glorious Virtues. Servant Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary.
ਤੂ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੀਨ ਹਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਖੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੩॥
too jal nidh meen ham tere kar kirapaa sang rakheejai |8|3|
You are the Ocean of water, and I am Your fish. Please be kind, and keep me always with You. ||8||3||

ਯਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਨੀ ਰਹਤ ਦੁਖਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

ਰਾਨੀ ਰੂਪ ਬੈਦ ਕੋ ਠਾਨਿ ॥

ਰਾਜਾ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਕਿਯਾ ਪਯਾਨ ॥

ਕਹਾ ਅਸਾਧ ਭਯਾ ਹੈ ਤੋਹਿ ॥

ਬੋਲਿ ਚਕਿਤਸਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਮੋਹਿ ॥੩॥

ਧਾਵਤ ਤੁਮੈ ਪਸੀਨੋ ਆਵਤ ॥

ਰਵਿ ਦੇਖਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਧੁੰਧ ਜਨਾਵਤ ॥
rav dekhat drig dhundh janaavat |
ਰਾਜਾ ਬਾਤ ਸਤ︀ਯ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੀ ॥

ਮੂੜ ਭੇਦ ਕੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੪॥

ਸੋਇ ਰਹੀ ਸਭ ਜਗਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
soe rahee sabh jageh dikhaae |
ਚਮਕਿ ਉਠੀ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਕਹ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥

ਕਹਾ ਦਰਸ ਮੁਹਿ ਦਿਯਾ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥
kahaa daras muhi diyaa bhavaanee |
ਸਭਹਿਨ ਸੌ ਭਾਖੀ ਇਮਿ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
sabhahin sau bhaakhee im baanee |
ਜਿਹ ਬਰਦਾਨ ਦੇਉ ਤਿਹ ਹੋਈ ॥
jih baradaan deo tih hoee |
ਯਾ ਮਹਿ ਪਰੈ ਫੇਰਿ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥

ਲੋਗ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਗ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

ਬਰੁ ਮਾਗਨ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ ॥

ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬੈਠੀ ਸਭਹਿਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

ਯਹ ਸੁਨਿ ਖਬਰ ਨਰਾਧਿਪ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥

naam hingulaa dee kahijai |
ਜਗਤ ਮਾਤ ਕੌ ਆਪੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
jagat maat kau aap kahaavai |
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਕਹ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥੬॥

ਕਾਜੀ ਔਰ ਮੁਲਾਨੇ ਜੇਤੇ ॥

ਜੋਗੀ ਮੁੰਡਿਯਾ ਅਰੁ ਦਿਜ ਕੇਤੇ ॥
jogee munddiyaa ar dij kete |
ਸਭ ਕੀ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥

ਪਰਚਾ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਵਨ ਕੀ ਭਈ ॥੭॥

ਸਭ ਭੇਖੀ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਰਿਸਿ ਭਰੇ ॥
sabh bhekhee yaa te ris bhare |
ਬਹੁ ਧਨ ਚੜਤ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਤਿਹ ਜਰੇ ॥
bahu dhan charrat nirakh tih jare |
ਗਹਿ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਾਸਾ ॥

ਕਹਤ ਭਏ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਉਪਹਾਸਾ ॥੮॥
