Kaanraa, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
man har rang raataa gaavaigo |
O mind, be attuned to His Love, and sing.
ਭੈ ਭੈ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhai bhai traas bhe hai niramal guramat laag lagaavaigo |1| rahaau |
The Fear of God makes me fearless and immaculate; I am dyed in the color of the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
har rang raataa sad bairaagee har nikatt tinaa ghar aavaigo |
Those who are attuned to the Lord's Love remain balanced and detached forever; they live near the Lord, who comes into their house.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੰਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
tin kee pank milai taan jeevaa kar kirapaa aap divaavaigo |1|
If I am blessed with the dust of their feet, then I live. Granting His Grace, He Himself bestows it. ||1||
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲੋਭਿ ਲਗੇ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
dubidhaa lobh lage hai praanee man korai rang na aavaigo |
Mortal beings are attached to greed and duality. Their minds are unripe and unfit, and will not accept the Dye of His Love.
ਫਿਰਿ ਉਲਟਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
fir ulattio janam hovai gur bachanee gur purakh milai rang laavaigo |2|
But their lives are transformed through the Word of the Guru's Teachings. Meeting with the Guru, the Primal Being, they are dyed in the color of His Love. ||2||
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਦਸੇ ਦਸੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਾਵਤ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣੀਆ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਟਿਕਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
eindree dase dase fun dhaavat trai guneea khin na ttikaavaigo |
There are ten organs of sense and action; the ten wander unrestrained. Under the influence of the three dispositions, they are not stable, even for an instant.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
satigur parachai vasagat aavai mokh mukat so paavaigo |3|
Coming in contact with the True Guru, they are brought under control; then, salvation and liberation are attained. ||3||
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਏਕਸ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
oankaar eko rav rahiaa sabh ekas maeh samaavaigo |
The One and Only Creator of the Universe is All-pervading everywhere. All shall once again merge into the One.
ਏਕੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਏਕੋ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕਤੁ ਬਚਨਿ ਚਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
eko roop eko bahu rangee sabh ekat bachan chalaavaigo |4|
His One Form has one, and many colors; He leads all according to His One Word. ||4||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਲਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
guramukh eko ek pachhaataa guramukh hoe lakhaavaigo |
The Gurmukh realizes the One and Only Lord; He is revealed to the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਜ ਮਹਲੀ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਬਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
guramukh jaae milai nij mahalee anahad sabad bajaavaigo |5|
The Gurmukh goes and meets the Lord in His Mansion deep within; the Unstruck Word of the Shabad vibrates there. ||5||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jeea jant sabh sisatt upaaee guramukh sobhaa paavaigo |
God created all the beings and creatures of the universe; He blesses the Gurmukh with glory.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੋ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
bin gur bhette ko mehal na paavai aae jaae dukh paavaigo |6|
Without meeting the Guru, no one obtains the Mansion of His Presence. They suffer the agony of coming and going in reincarnation. ||6||
ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
anek janam vichhurre mere preetam kar kirapaa guroo milaavaigo |
For countless lifetimes, I have been separated from my Beloved; in His Mercy, the Guru has united me with Him.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਤ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਮਲੀਨ ਬਿਗਸਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
satigur milat mahaa sukh paaeaa mat maleen bigasaavaigo |7|
Meeting the True Guru, I have found absolute peace, and my polluted intellect blossoms forth. ||7||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਮੈ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
har har kripaa karahu jagajeevan mai saradhaa naam lagaavaigo |
O Lord, Har, Har, please grant Your Grace; O Life of the World, instill faith in the Naam within me.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੪॥
naanak guroo guroo hai satigur mai satigur saran milaavaigo |8|4|
Nanak is the Guru, the Guru, the True Guru; I am immersed in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||8||4||

Kaanraa, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਚਾਲ ਚਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
man guramat chaal chalaavaigo |
O mind, walk on the Path of the Guru's Teachings.
ਜਿਉ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਮਸਤੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਤਲਿ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jiau maigal masat deejai tal kundde gur ankas sabad drirraavaigo |1| rahaau |
Just as the wild elephant is subdued by the prod, the mind is disciplined by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਚਲਤੌ ਚਲੈ ਚਲੈ ਦਹ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
chalatau chalai chalai deh deh dis gur raakhai har liv laavaigo |
The wandering mind wanders, roams and rambles in the ten directions; but the Guru holds it, and lovingly attunes it to the Lord.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦੇਇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੁਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
satigur sabad dee rid antar mukh amrit naam chuaavaigo |1|
The True Guru implants the Word of the Shabad deep within the heart; the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, trickles into the mouth. ||1||
ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਬਿਸੂ ਭਰੇ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗਰੁੜ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
biseear bisoo bhare hai pooran gur garurr sabad mukh paavaigo |
The snakes are filled with poisonous venom; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the antidote - place it in your mouth.
ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਇਅੰਗ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਝਾਰਿ ਝਾਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
maaeaa bhueiang tis nerr na aavai bikh jhaar jhaar liv laavaigo |2|
Maya, the serpent, does not even approach one who is rid of the poison, and lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||2||
ਸੁਆਨੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
suaan lobh nagar meh sabalaa gur khin meh maar kadtaavaigo |
The dog of greed is very powerful in the village of the body; the Guru strikes it and drives it out in an instant.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਆਨਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਗਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
sat santokh dharam aan raakhe har nagaree har gun gaavaigo |3|
Truth, contentment, righteousness and Dharma have settled there; in the village of the Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਪੰਕਜ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਘਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਘਰਤ ਕਾਢਿ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
pankaj moh nigharat hai praanee gur nigharat kaadt kadtaavaigo |
The mortal beings are sinking in the swamp of emotional attachment; the Guru lifts them up, and saves them from sinking.
ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਜਨ ਆਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਨਿਕਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
traeh traeh saran jan aae gur haathee de nikalaavaigo |4|
Crying, "Save me! Save me!", the humble come to His Sanctuary; the Guru reaches out His Hand, and lifts them up. ||4||
ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
supanantar sansaar sabh baajee sabh baajee khel khilaavaigo |
The whole world is like a game in a dream, all a game. God plays and causes the game to be played.
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਚਾਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
laahaa naam guramat lai chaalahu har daragah paidhaa jaavaigo |5|
So earn the Profit of the Naam by following the Guru's Teachings; you shall go to the Court of the Lord in robes of honor. ||5||
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਪ ਕੋਇਲੇ ਆਨਿ ਜਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
haumai karai karaavai haumai paap koeile aan jamaavaigo |
They act in egotism, and make others act in egotism; they collect and gather up the blackness of sin.
ਆਇਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੋ ਖਵਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
aaeaa kaal dukhadaaee hoe jo beeje so khavalaavaigo |6|
And when death comes, they suffer in agony; they must eat what they have planted. ||6||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਲੈ ਖਰਚੁ ਚਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
santahu raam naam dhan sanchahu lai kharach chale pat paavaigo |
O Saints, gather the Wealth of the Lord's Name; if you depart after packing these provisions, you shall be honored.
ਖਾਇ ਖਰਚਿ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
khaae kharach deveh bahuteraa har dede tott na aavaigo |7|
So eat, spend, consume and give abundantly; the Lord will give - there will be no deficiency. ||7||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹੈ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
raam naam dhan hai rid antar dhan gur saranaaee paavaigo |
The wealth of the Lord's Name is deep within the heart. In the Sanctuary of the Guru, this wealth is found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਭੰਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੫॥
naanak deaa deaa kar deenee dukh daalad bhanj samaavaigo |8|5|
O Nanak, God has been kind and compassionate; He has blessed me. Removing pain and poverty, He has blended me with Himself. ||8||5||

ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
sundar de raajaa kee naaree |
ਆਪੁ ਜਨਕੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
aap janak jagadees savaaree |
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥
taa kee jaat na prabhaa bakhaanee |
ਐਸੀ ਹੁਤੀ ਰਾਇ ਕੀ ਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
aisee hutee raae kee raanee |2|
ਤਹਿਕ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਪੂਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tahik saah ko poot apaaraa |
ਕਨਕ ਅਵਟਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਨੁ ਢਾਰਾ ॥
kanak avatt saache jan dtaaraa |
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਨਾਕ ਜਿਹ ਸੂਆ ਰਿਸਾਨੋ ॥
nirakh naak jih sooaa risaano |
ਕੰਜ ਜਾਨਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਭਵਰ ਭੁਲਾਨੋ ॥੩॥
kanj jaan drig bhavar bhulaano |3|
ਕਟਿ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਲਖਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਵਤ ॥
katt kehar lakh adhik risaavat |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਫਿਰਤ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਕਹ ਘਾਵਤ ॥
taa te firat mrigan keh ghaavat |
ਸੁਨਿ ਬਾਨੀ ਕੋਕਿਲ ਕੁਕਰਈ ॥
sun baanee kokil kukaree |
ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਜਰਤ ਕਾਰੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥੪॥
krodh jarat kaaree hvai gee |4|
ਨੈਨ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਲਜ ਲਜਾਨਾ ॥
nain nirakh kar jalaj lajaanaa |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਯਾ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥
taa te jal meh kiyaa payaanaa |
ਅਲਕ ਹੇਰਿ ਨਾਗਿਨਿ ਰਿਸਿ ਭਰੀ ॥
alak her naagin ris bharee |
ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਲਜਤ ਪਤਾਰਹਿ ਬਰੀ ॥੫॥
chit meh lajat pataareh baree |5|
ਸੋ ਆਯੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਸਾ ॥
so aayo raajaa ke paasaa |
ਸੌਦਾ ਕੀ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਧਰਿ ਆਸਾ ॥
sauadaa kee jiy mai dhar aasaa |
ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਤਿਹ ਭਈ ॥
sundar de nirakhat tih bhee |
ਸੁਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਜਿ ਬੌਰੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥੬॥
sudh budh taj bauaree hvai gee |6|
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਾ ॥
patthai sahacharee taeh bulaavaa |
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਕਿਯ ਜਸ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਾ ॥
kaam bhog kiy jas man bhaavaa |
ਤਹ ਇਕ ਹੁਤੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਚੇਰੀ ॥
teh ik hutee nripat kee cheree |
ਹੇਰਿ ਗਈ ਜਸ ਹੇਰਿ ਅਹੇਰੀ ॥੭॥
her gee jas her aheree |7|
ਪਾਵ ਦਾਬਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਾਇ ਜਗਾਯੋ ॥
paav daab nrip jaae jagaayo |
ਧਾਮ ਤੋਰ ਤਸਕਰਿ ਇਕ ਆਯੋ ॥
dhaam tor tasakar ik aayo |
ਰਾਨੀ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
raanee ke sang karat bilaasaa |
ਚਲਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪ ਤਮਾਸਾ ॥੮॥
chal dekhahu tih bhoop tamaasaa |8|
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਯੋ ॥
sunat bachan nrip adhik risaayo |
ਖੜਗ ਹਾਥ ਲੈ ਤਹਾ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥
kharrag haath lai tahaa sidhaayo |
ਜਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jab abalaa pat kee sudh paaee |
ਅਧਿਕ ਧੂੰਮ ਤਹ ਦਿਯਾ ਜਗਾਈ ॥੯॥
adhik dhoonm teh diyaa jagaaee |9|
ਸਭ ਕੇ ਨੈਨ ਧੂਮ੍ਰ ਸੌ ਭਰੇ ॥
sabh ke nain dhoomr sau bhare |
ਅਸੁਆ ਟੂਟਿ ਬਦਨ ਪਰ ਪਰੇ ॥
asuaa ttoott badan par pare |
ਜਬ ਰਾਨੀ ਇਹ ਘਾਤ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
jab raanee ih ghaat pachhaanee |
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਲੰਘਾਇ ਹਿਯੇ ਹਰਖਾਨੀ ॥੧੦॥
mitr langhaae hiye harakhaanee |10|
ਆਗੇ ਸੌ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਢਾ ਜਾਰਾ ॥
aage sau kar kaadtaa jaaraa |
ਧੂਮ੍ਰ ਭਰੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
dhoomr bhare drig nripan nihaaraa |
ਪੌਛ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਗਯੋ ਤਹਾ ॥
pauachh netr jab hee gayo tahaa |
ਕੋਊ ਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ਉਹਾ ॥੧੧॥
koaoo na purakh nihaaraa uhaa |11|
ਉਲਟਿ ਤਿਸੀ ਚੇਰੀ ਕਹ ਘਾਯੋ ॥
aulatt tisee cheree keh ghaayo |
ਇਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹ ਦੋਸ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
eih raanee keh dos lagaayo |
ਮੂਰਖ ਭੂਪ ਨ ਭੇਦ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
moorakh bhoop na bhed bichaaraa |
ਆਗੇ ਕਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੧੨॥
aage kar triy mitr nikaaraa |12|
