Malaar, First Mehl:
ਬਾਗੇ ਕਾਪੜ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੈਣ ॥
baage kaaparr bolai bain |
You wear white clothes, and speak sweet words.
ਲੰਮਾ ਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣ ॥
lamaa nak kaale tere nain |
Your nose is sharp, and your eyes are black.
ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਭੈਣ ॥੧॥
kabahoon saahib dekhiaa bhain |1|
Have you ever seen your Lord and Master, O sister? ||1||
ਊਡਾਂ ਊਡਿ ਚੜਾਂ ਅਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
aooddaan aoodd charraan asamaan |
O my All-powerful Lord and Master,
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਾਣਿ ॥
saahib samrith terai taan |
By Your power, I fly and soar, and ascend to the heavens.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਤੀਰ ॥
jal thal ddoongar dekhaan teer |
I see Him in the water, on the land, in the mountains, on the river-banks,
ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਬੀਰ ॥੨॥
thaan thanantar saahib beer |2|
in all places and interspaces, O brother. ||2||
ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਦੀਏ ਨਾਲਿ ਖੰਭ ॥
jin tan saaj dee naal khanbh |
He fashioned the body, and gave it wings;
ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਉਡਣੈ ਕੀ ਡੰਝ ॥
at trisanaa uddanai kee ddanjh |
He gave it great thirst and desire to fly.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੰਧਾਂ ਧੀਰ ॥
nadar kare taan bandhaan dheer |
When He bestows His Glance of Grace, I am comforted and consoled.
ਜਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਲੇ ਤਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਂ ਬੀਰ ॥੩॥
jiau vekhaale tiau vekhaan beer |3|
As He makes me see, so do I see, O brother. ||3||
ਨ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਨ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਖੰਭ ॥
n ihu tan jaaeigaa na jaahige khanbh |
Neither this body, nor its wings, shall go to the world hereafter.
ਪਉਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧ ॥
paunai paanee aganee kaa sanabandh |
It is a fusion of air, water and fire.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਪੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥
naanak karam hovai japeeai kar gur peer |
O Nanak, if it is in the mortal's karma, then he meditates on the Lord, with the Guru as his Spiritual Teacher.
ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥
sach samaavai ehu sareer |4|4|9|
This body is absorbed in the Truth. ||4||4||9||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
nirankaar aakaar hai aape aape bharam bhulaae |
The Formless Lord is formed by Himself. He Himself deludes in doubt.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
kar kar karataa aape vekhai jit bhaavai tith laae |
Creating the Creation, the Creator Himself beholds it; He enjoins us as He pleases.
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਏਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੧॥
sevak kau ehaa vaddiaaee jaa kau hukam manaae |1|
This is the true greatness of His servant, that he obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command. ||1||
ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
aapanaa bhaanaa aape jaanai gur kirapaa te laheeai |
Only He Himself knows His Will. By Guru's Grace, it is grasped.
ਏਹਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ehaa sakat sivai ghar aavai jeevadiaa mar raheeai |1| rahaau |
When this play of Shiva and Shakti comes to his home, he remains dead while yet alive. ||1||Pause||
ਵੇਦ ਪੜੈ ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥
ved parrai parr vaad vakhaanai brahamaa bisan mahesaa |
They read the Vedas, and read them again, and engage in arguments about Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
ਏਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਹਸਾ ॥
eeh trigun maaeaa jin jagat bhulaaeaa janam maran kaa sahasaa |
This three-phased Maya has deluded the whole world into cynicism about death and birth.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥੨॥
gur parasaadee eko jaanai chookai manahu andesaa |2|
By Guru's Grace, know the One Lord, and the anxiety of your mind will be allayed. ||2||
ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
ham deen moorakh aveechaaree tum chintaa karahu hamaaree |
I am meek, foolish and thoughtless, but still, You take care of me.
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
hohu deaal kar daas daasaa kaa sevaa karee tumaaree |
Please be kind to me, and make me the slave of Your slaves, so that I may serve You.
ਏਕੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੂ ਅਪਣਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
ek nidhaan dehi too apanaa ahinis naam vakhaanee |3|
Please bless me with the treasure of the One Name, that I may chant it, day and night. ||3||
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
kehat naanak gur parasaadee boojhahu koee aisaa kare veechaaraa |
Says Nanak, by Guru's Grace, understand. Hardly anyone considers this.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਊਪਰਿ ਫੇਨੁ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
jiau jal aoopar fen budabudaa taisaa ihu sansaaraa |
Like foam bubbling up on the surface of the water, so is this world.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਚੂਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
jis te hoaa tiseh samaanaa chook geaa paasaaraa |4|1|
It shall eventually merge back into that from which it came, and all its expanse shall be gone. ||4||1||

ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਦੇਈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
karanaattak deee grih naaree |
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਲਿਯ ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
jaa te liy rav sas ujiyaaree |1|
ਤਹ ਇਕ ਸਾਹ ਬਸਤ ਥੋ ਨੀਕੋ ॥
teh ik saah basat tho neeko |
ਜਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਉਪਜਤ ਜੀ ਕੋ ॥
jaeh nirakh sukh upajat jee ko |
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਹੁਤੀ ਇਕ ਧਾਮਾ ॥
taa ke sutaa hutee ik dhaamaa |
ਥਕਿਤ ਰਹਤ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਿਹ ਬਾਮਾ ॥੨॥
thakit rehat nirakhat jih baamaa |2|
ਸੁਤਾ ਅਪੂਰਬ ਦੇ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
sutaa apoorab de tih naamaa |
ਜਿਹ ਸੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੋਊ ਨਹਿ ਬਾਮਾ ॥
jih see kahoon koaoo neh baamaa |
ਏਕ ਸਾਹ ਕੇ ਸੁਤ ਕਹ ਬ︀ਯਾਹੀ ॥
ek saah ke sut keh bayaahee |
ਬੀਰਜ ਕੇਤੁ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਆਹੀ ॥੩॥
beeraj ket naam tih aahee |3|
ਜਬ ਵਹੁ ਬ︀ਯਾਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਲੈ ਗਯੋ ॥
jab vahu bayaeh taeh lai gayo |
ਨਿਜੁ ਸਦਨਨ ਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਭਯੋ ॥
nij sadanan lai praapat bhayo |
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
ek purakh tin naar nihaaraa |
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਨਹਿ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
jaa kee sam neh raaj kumaaraa |4|
ਨਿਰਖਤ ਤਾਹਿ ਲਗਨ ਤਿਹ ਲਗੀ ॥
nirakhat taeh lagan tih lagee |
ਨੀਦ ਭੂਖਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਭਗੀ ॥
need bhookh tab hee te bhagee |
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
patthai sahacharee taeh bulaavai |
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਰੁਚਿ ਮਾਨ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
kaam bhog ruch maan kamaavai |5|
ਸੰਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਧਾ ਸਨੇਹਾ ॥
sang taa ke bahu badhaa sanehaa |
ਰਾਝਨ ਔਰ ਹੀਰ ਕੋ ਜੇਹਾ ॥
raajhan aauar heer ko jehaa |
ਬੀਰਜ ਕੇਤ ਕਹ ਯਾਦਿ ਨ ਲ︀ਯਾਵੈ ॥
beeraj ket keh yaad na layaavai |
ਧਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਕਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
dharam bhraat keh taeh bulaavai |6|
ਭੇਦ ਸਸੁਰ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
bhed sasur ke log na jaanai |
ਧਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੈ ॥
dharam bhraat tih triy pahichaanai |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਲਹਹੀ ॥
bhed abhed na moorakh lahahee |
ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਜਾਨ ਕਛੂ ਨਹਿ ਕਹਹੀ ॥੭॥
bhraataa jaan kachhoo neh kahahee |7|
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥
eik din triy ih bhaat uchaaraa |
ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
nij pat kau dai kai bikh maaraa |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੌ ਰੋਦਨ ਕਰੈ ॥
bhaat bhaat sau rodan karai |
ਲੋਗ ਲਖਤ ਸਿਰ ਕੇਸ ਉਪਰੈ ॥੮॥
log lakhat sir kes uparai |8|
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਧਾਮ ਕਵਨ ਕੇ ਰਹੋ ॥
ab mai dhaam kavan ke raho |
ਮੈ ਪਿਯ ਸਬਦ ਕਵਨ ਸੌ ਕਹੋ ॥
mai piy sabad kavan sau kaho |
ਨ︀ਯਾਇ ਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ॥
nayaae nahee har ke ghar bheetar |
ਇਹ ਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਮੋਰਿ ਅਵਨੀ ਤਰ ॥੯॥
eih gat karee mor avanee tar |9|
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਦਰਬ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
grih ko darab sang kar leenaa |
ਮਿਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਸੰਗ ਪਯਾਨਾ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
mitreh sang payaanaa keenaa |
ਧਰਮ ਭਾਇ ਜਾ ਕੌ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਖਾ ॥
dharam bhaae jaa kau kar bhaakhaa |
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਨਾਥ ਧਾਮ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਾ ॥੧੦॥
eih chhal naath dhaam kar raakhaa |10|
ਲੋਗ ਸਭੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥
log sabhai ih bhaat uchaaraa |
ਆਪੁ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
aap bikhai mil karat bichaaraa |
ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਇਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
kahaa karai ih naar bichaaree |
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦੈਵ ਐਸ ਗਤਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥
jaa kee daiv ais gat dhaaree |11|
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਧਨ ਧਾਮਾ ॥
taa te lai sabh hee dhan dhaamaa |
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਗਈ ਭਾਇ ਕੇ ਬਾਮਾ ॥
apune gee bhaae ke baamaa |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਸਕਤ ਬਿਚਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
bhed abhed na sakat bichar kai |
ਗਈ ਜਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਥ ਸੰਘਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੧੨॥
gee jaar ke naath sanghar kai |12|
