Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੈ ਕਵਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੀਨ ॥
re paapee tai kavan kee mat leen |
O sinner, who taught you to sin?
ਨਿਮਖ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nimakh gharee na simar suaamee jeeo pindd jin deen |1| rahaau |
You do not contemplate your Lord and Master, even for an instant; it was He who gave you your body and soul. ||1||Pause||
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਵਤ ਸਵੰਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਖੀਨ ॥
khaat peevat savant sukheea naam simarat kheen |
Eating, drinking and sleeping, you are happy, but contemplating the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you are miserable.
ਗਰਭ ਉਦਰ ਬਿਲਲਾਟ ਕਰਤਾ ਤਹਾਂ ਹੋਵਤ ਦੀਨ ॥੧॥
garabh udar bilalaatt karataa tahaan hovat deen |1|
In the womb of your mother, you cried and whined like a wretch. ||1||
ਮਹਾ ਮਾਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਾਧਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੀਨ ॥
mahaa maad bikaar baadhaa anik jon bhrameen |
And now, bound by great pride and corruption, you shall wander in endless incarnations.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਬਿਸਰੇ ਕਵਨ ਦੁਖ ਗਨੀਅਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਦ ਚੀਨੑ ॥੨॥੮੫॥੧੦੮॥
gobind bisare kavan dukh ganeeeh sukh naanak har pad cheena |2|85|108|
You have forgotten the Lord of the Universe; what misery will be your lot now? O Nanak, peace is found by realizing the sublime state of the Lord. ||2||85||108||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਚਰਨਹ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ॥
maaee ree charanah ott gahee |
O mother, I have grasped the Protection, the Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਬਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darasan pekh meraa man mohio duramat jaat bahee |1| rahaau |
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is fascinated, and evil-mindedness is taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਅਗਹ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਊਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ॥
agah agaadh aooch abinaasee keemat jaat na kahee |
He is Unfathomable, Incomprehensible, Exalted and High, Eternal and Imperishable; His worth cannot be appraised.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸਿਓ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਮਹੀ ॥੧॥
jal thal pekh pekh man bigasio poor rahio srab mahee |1|
Gazing upon Him, gazing upon Him in the water and on the land, my mind has blossomed forth in ecstasy. He is totally pervading and permeating all. ||1||
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਹ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਹੀ ॥
deen deaal preetam manamohan mil saadhah keeno sahee |
Merciful to the meek, my Beloved, Enticer of my mind; meeting with the Holy, He is known.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਭੀਰ ਨ ਫਹੀ ॥੨॥੮੬॥੧੦੯॥
simar simar jeevat har naanak jam kee bheer na fahee |2|86|109|
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, Nanak lives; the Messenger of Death cannot catch or torment him. ||2||86||109||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਤਵਾਰੋ ॥
maaee ree man mero matavaaro |
O mother, my mind is intoxicated.
ਪੇਖਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਅਨਦ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਪਿਓ ਖੁਮਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pekh deaal anad sukh pooran har ras rapio khumaaro |1| rahaau |
Gazing upon the Merciful Lord, I am filled with bliss and peace; imbued with the sublime essence of the Lord, I am intoxicated. ||1||Pause||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਊਜਲ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਾਰੋ ॥
niramal bhe aoojal jas gaavat bahur na hovat kaaro |
I have become spotless and pure, singing the Sacred Praises of the Lord; I shall never again be dirtied.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਡੋਰੀ ਰਾਚੀ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
charan kamal siau ddoree raachee bhettio purakh apaaro |1|
My awareness is focused on the Lotus Feet of God; I have met the Infinite, Supreme Being. ||1||
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਦੀਨੇ ਦੀਪਕ ਭਇਓ ਉਜਾਰੋ ॥
kar geh leene sarabas deene deepak bheo ujaaro |
Taking me by the hand, He has given me everything; He has lit up my lamp.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਸਿਕ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕੁਲਹ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਤਾਰੋ ॥੨॥੮੭॥੧੧੦॥
naanak naam rasik bairaagee kulah samoohaan taaro |2|87|110|
O Nanak, savoring the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I have become detached; my generations have been carried across as well. ||2||87||110||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਈ ਰੀ ਆਨ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥
maaee ree aan simar mar jaanhi |
O mother, by meditating in remembrance on some other, the mortal dies.
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tiaag gobid jeean ko daataa maaeaa sang lapattaeh |1| rahaau |
Forsaking the Lord of the Universe, the Giver of souls, the mortal is engrossed and entangled in Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਅਨ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
naam bisaar chaleh an maarag narak ghor meh paeh |
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he walks on some other path, and falls into the most horrible hell.
ਅਨਿਕ ਸਜਾਂਈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਗਰਭੈ ਗਰਭਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
anik sajaanee ganat na aavai garabhai garabh bhramaeh |1|
He suffers uncounted punishments, and wanders from womb to womb in reincarnation. ||1||
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਸੇ ਪਤਿਵੰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
se dhanavante se pativante har kee saran samaeh |
They alone are wealthy, and they alone are honorable, who are absorbed in the Sanctuary of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੨॥੮੮॥੧੧੧॥
gur prasaad naanak jag jeetio bahur na aaveh jaanhi |2|88|111|
By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, they conquer the world; they do not come and go in reincarnation ever again. ||2||88||111||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਕਾਟੀ ਕੁਟਿਲਤਾ ਕੁਠਾਰਿ ॥
har kaattee kuttilataa kutthaar |
The Lord has cut down the crooked tree of my deceit.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਬਨ ਦਹਨ ਭਏ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhram ban dehan bhe khin bheetar raam naam parahaar |1| rahaau |
The forest of doubt is burnt away in an instant, by the fire of the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਰਹਰੀਆ ਕਾਢੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
kaam krodh nindaa parahareea kaadte saadhoo kai sang maar |
Sexual desire, anger and slander are gone; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have beaten them and driven them out.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਜੂਐ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
janam padaarath guramukh jeetiaa bahur na jooai haar |1|
The Gurmukh is successful in this priceless human life; he shall not lose it in the gamble ever again. ||1||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
aatth pehar prabh ke gun gaavah pooran sabad beechaar |
Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and contemplate the Perfect Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿ ॥੨॥੮੯॥੧੧੨॥
naanak daasan daas jan teraa punah punah namasakaar |2|89|112|
Servant Nanak is the slave of Your slaves; over and over again, he bows in humble reverence to You. ||2||89||112||
