Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
amrit naam maneh aadhaaro |
The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Support of the mind.
ਜਿਨ ਦੀਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin deea tis kai kurabaanai gur poore namasakaaro |1| rahaau |
I am a sacrifice to the One who gave it to me; I humbly bow to the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਬੂਝੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੋ ॥
boojhee trisanaa sehaj suhelaa kaam krodh bikh jaaro |
My thirst is quenched, and I have been intuitively embellished. The poisons of sexual desire and anger have been burnt away.
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਬਸੈ ਇਹ ਠਾਹਰ ਜਹ ਆਸਨੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
aae na jaae basai ih tthaahar jeh aasan nirankaaro |1|
This mind does not come and go; it abides in that place, where the Formless Lord sits. ||1||
ਏਕੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਏਕੈ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਏਕੈ ਧੁੰਧੂਕਾਰੋ ॥
ekai paragatt ekai gupataa ekai dhundhookaaro |
The One Lord is manifest and radiant; the One Lord is hidden and mysterious. The One Lord is abysmal darkness.
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੨॥੩੧॥੫੪॥
aad madh ant prabh soee kahu naanak saach beechaaro |2|31|54|
From the beginning, throughout the middle and until the end, is God. Says Nanak, reflect on the Truth. ||2||31||54||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਘਰੀ ॥
bin prabh rehan na jaae gharee |
Without God, I cannot survive, even for an instant.
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਹਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab sookh taahoo kai pooran jaa kai sukh hai haree |1| rahaau |
One who finds joy in the Lord finds total peace and perfection. ||1||Pause||
ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਧਨ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਨਦ ਘਨਾ ॥
mangal roop praan jeevan dhan simarat anad ghanaa |
God is the Embodiment of bliss, the Breath of Life and Wealth; remembering Him in meditation, I am blessed with absolute bliss.
ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਸੰਗੇ ਗੁਨ ਰਸਨਾ ਕਵਨ ਭਨਾ ॥੧॥
vadd samarath sadaa sad sange gun rasanaa kavan bhanaa |1|
He is utterly All-powerful, with me forever and ever; what tongue can utter His Glorious Praises? ||1||
ਥਾਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਾਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਨਨ ਕਹਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
thaan pavitraa maan pavitraa pavitr sunan kahanahaare |
His Place is sacred, and His Glory is sacred; sacred are those who listen and speak of Him.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਭਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੩੨॥੫੫॥
kahu naanak te bhavan pavitraa jaa meh sant tumaare |2|32|55|
Says Nanak, that dwelling is sacred, in which Your Saints live. ||2||32||55||

ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪਤੀ ਤੂਹੀ ਤੂਹੀ ॥
rasanaa japatee toohee toohee |
My tongue chants Your Name, Your Name.
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਇਕ ਤੁਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maat garabh tum hee pratipaalak mrit manddal ik tuhee |1| rahaau |
In the mother's womb, You sustained me, and in this mortal world, You alone help me. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਮੀਤ ਹਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥
tumeh pitaa tum hee fun maataa tumeh meet hit bhraataa |
You are my Father, and You are my Mother; You are my Loving Friend and Sibling.
ਤੁਮ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਆਧਾਰਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਦਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
tum paravaar tumeh aadhaaraa tumeh jeea praanadaataa |1|
You are my Family, and You are my Support. You are the Giver of the Breath of Life. ||1||
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਖਜੀਨਾ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜਰੀਨਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਲਾਲਾ ॥
tumeh khajeenaa tumeh jareenaa tum hee maanik laalaa |
You are my Treasure, and You are my Wealth. You are my Gems and Jewels.
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੩੩॥੫੬॥
tumeh paarajaat gur te paae tau naanak bhe nihaalaa |2|33|56|
You are the wish-fulfilling Elysian Tree. Nanak has found You through the Guru, and now he is enraptured. ||2||33||56||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਾਹੂ ਕਾਹੂ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
jaahoo kaahoo apuno hee chit aavai |
Wherever he goes, his consciousness turns to his own.
ਜੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਚੇਰੋ ਹੋਵਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo kaahoo ko chero hovat tthaakur hee peh jaavai |1| rahaau |
Whoever is a chaylaa (a servant) goes only to his Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||
ਅਪਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਦੂਖ ਅਪਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥
apane peh dookh apane peh sookhaa apune hee peh birathaa |
He shares his sorrows, his joys and his condition only with his own.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਤਾਨਾ ਅਪਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥੧॥
apune peh maan apune peh taanaa apane hee peh arathaa |1|
He obtains honor from his own, and strength from his own; he gets an advantage from his own. ||1||
ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਧਨ ਮਿਲਖਾ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਬਾਪ ਮਹਤਾਰੀ ॥
kin hee raaj joban dhan milakhaa kin hee baap mahataaree |
Some have regal power, youth, wealth and property; some have a father and a mother.
ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੩੪॥੫੭॥
sarab thok naanak gur paae pooran aas hamaaree |2|34|57|
I have obtained all things, O Nanak, from the Guru. My hopes have been fulfilled. ||2||34||57||

ਝੂਠੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਮਦ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jhoottho maaeaa ko mad maan |
False is intoxication and pride in Maya.
ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਪਾਲਹਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhroh moh door kar bapure sang gopaaleh jaan |1| rahaau |
Get rid of your fraud and attachment, O wretched mortal, and remember that the Lord of the World is with you. ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਉਮਰੇ ਮੀਰ ਮਲਕ ਅਰੁ ਖਾਨ ॥
mithiaa raaj joban ar umare meer malak ar khaan |
False are royal powers, youth, nobility, kings, rulers and aristocrats.
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਾਪਰ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਾਨ ॥੧॥
mithiaa kaapar sugandh chaturaaee mithiaa bhojan paan |1|
False are the fine clothes, perfumes and clever tricks; false are the foods and drinks. ||1||
ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧਰੋ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਾਰਾਨ ॥
deen bandharo daas daasaro santah kee saaraan |
O Patron of the meek and the poor, I am the slave of Your slaves; I seek the Sanctuary of Your Saints.
ਮਾਂਗਨਿ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥੨॥੩੫॥੫੮॥
maangan maangau hoe achintaa mil naanak ke har praan |2|35|58|
I humbly ask, I beg of You, please relieve my anxiety; O Lord of Life, please unite Nanak with Yourself. ||2||35||58||

ਅਪੁਨੀ ਇਤਨੀ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
apunee itanee kachhoo na saaree |
By himself, the mortal cannot accomplish anything.
ਅਨਿਕ ਕਾਜ ਅਨਿਕ ਧਾਵਰਤਾ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਆਨ ਜੰਜਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik kaaj anik dhaavarataa urajhio aan janjaaree |1| rahaau |
He runs around chasing all sorts of projects, engrossed in other entanglements. ||1||Pause||
ਦਿਉਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸੰਗੀ ਊਹਾਂ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਹ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
diaus chaar ke deeseh sangee aoohaan naahee jeh bhaaree |
His companions of these few days will not be there when he is in trouble.
ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਚਿ ਮਾਚਿ ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਕਾਮਿ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
tin siau raach maach hit laaeo jo kaam nahee gaavaaree |1|
He is hand and glove with those who are of no use to him; the poor wretch is affectionately involved with them. ||1||
ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾ ਹਮਰੋ ਬਸੁ ਚਾਰੀ ॥
hau naahee naahee kichh meraa naa hamaro bas chaaree |
I am nothing; nothing belongs to me. I have no power or control.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੩੬॥੫੯॥

O Creator, Cause of causes, Lord God of Nanak, I am saved and redeemed in the Society of the Saints. ||2||36||59||

ਇਹ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਹ ਚਹਿਯਤ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
eih raajaa keh chahiyat maaraa |
ਲੈ ਤਿਹ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗਿਯਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
lai tih raaj jogiyeh deejai |
ਕਛੂ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਐਸਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੫॥
kachhoo charitr ais bidh keejai |5|
ਸੋਵਤ ਸਮੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕਹ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
sovat samai nripat keh maariyo |
ਗਾਡਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
gaadd taeh ih bhaat uchaariyo |
ਰਾਜੈ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗਿਯਹਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
raajai raaj jogiyeh deenaa |
ਆਪਨ ਭੇਸ ਜੋਗ ਕੋ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੬॥
aapan bhes jog ko leenaa |6|
ਜੋਗ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਰਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਭਏ ॥
jog bhes dhaarat nrip bhe |
ਦੈ ਇਹ ਰਾਜ ਬਨਹਿ ਉਠ ਗਏ ॥
dai ih raaj baneh utth ge |
ਹਮਹੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗਿਯਹਿ ਦੈ ਹੈ ॥
hamahoon raaj jogiyeh dai hai |
ਨਾਥ ਗਏ ਜਿਤ ਤਹੀ ਸਿਧੈ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
naath ge jit tahee sidhai hai |7|
ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
sat sat sabh prajaa bakhaaniyo |
ਜੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਵਹੈ ਹਮ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
jo nrip kahiyo vahai ham maaniyo |
ਸਭਹਿਨ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗਯਹਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
sabhahin raaj jogayeh deenaa |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਮੂੜ ਨਹਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੮॥
