ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤੁਮੑ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀਨੑ ॥
jeea praan tuma pindd deena |
You gave us our soul, breath of life and body.
ਮੁਗਧ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਧਾਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਕੀਨੑ ॥
mugadh sundar dhaar jot keena |
I am a fool, but You have made me beautiful, enshrining Your Light within me.
ਸਭਿ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮੑ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
sabh jaachik prabh tuma deaal |
We are all beggars, O God; You are merciful to us.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥

Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, we are uplifted and exalted. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗ ॥
mere preetam kaaran karan jog |
O my Beloved, only You have the potency to act,
ਹਉ ਪਾਵਉ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਸਗਲ ਥੋਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hau paavau tum te sagal thok |1| rahaau |
and cause all to be done. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਵਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥

Chanting the Naam, the mortal is saved.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਸਾਰ ॥
naam japat sukh sehaj saar |
Chanting the Naam, sublime peace and poise are found.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਤਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam japat pat sobhaa hoe |
Chanting the Naam, honor and glory are received.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
naam japat bighan naahee koe |2|
Chanting the Naam, no obstacles shall block your way. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਇਹ ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ॥
jaa kaaran ih dulabh deh |
For this reason, you have been blessed with this body, so difficult to obtain.
ਸੋ ਬੋਲੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
so bol mere prabhoo dehi |
O my Dear God, please bless me to speak the Naam.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
saadhasangat meh ihu bisraam |
This tranquil peace is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਦਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਜਪੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੩॥
sadaa ridai japee prabh tero naam |3|
May I always chant and meditate within my heart on Your Name, O God. ||3||
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
tujh bin doojaa koe naeh |
Other than You, there is no one at all.
ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਖੇਲੁ ਤੁਝ ਮਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
sabh tero khel tujh meh samaeh |
Everything is Your play; it all merges again into You.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇ ॥
jiau bhaavai tiau raakh le |
As it pleases Your Will, save me, Lord.
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੪॥੪॥

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
prabh preetam merai sang raae |
My Beloved God, my King is with me.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮਾਇ ॥
jiseh dekh hau jeevaa maae |
Gazing upon Him, I live, O my mother.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaa kai simaran dukh na hoe |
Remembering Him in meditation, there is no pain or suffering.
ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਮੋਹਿ ॥੧॥
kar deaa milaavahu tiseh mohi |1|
Please, take pity on me, and lead me on to meet Him. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ਮਨ ॥
mere preetam praan adhaar man |
My Beloved is the Support of my breath of life and mind.
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਧਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

This soul, breath of life, and wealth are all Yours, O Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ॥
jaa kau khojeh sur nar dev |
He is sought by the angels, mortals and divine beings.
ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਖ ਨ ਲਹਹਿ ਭੇਵ ॥
mun jan sekh na laheh bhev |
The silent sages, the humble, and the religious teachers do not understand His mystery.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
jaa kee gat mit kahee na jaae |
His state and extent cannot be described.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
ghatt ghatt ghatt ghatt rahiaa samaae |2|
In each and every home of each and every heart, He is permeating and pervading. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੈ ॥
jaa ke bhagat aanand mai |
His devotees are totally in bliss.
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਖੈ ॥
jaa ke bhagat kau naahee khai |
His devotees cannot be destroyed.
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭੈ ॥
jaa ke bhagat kau naahee bhai |
His devotees are not afraid.
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਜੈ ॥੩॥
jaa ke bhagat kau sadaa jai |3|
His devotees are victorious forever. ||3||
ਕਉਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
kaun upamaa teree kahee jaae |
What Praises of Yours can I utter?
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
sukhadaataa prabh rahio samaae |
God, the Giver of peace, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਏਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
naanak jaachai ek daan |
Nanak begs for this one gift.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੫॥

Be merciful, and bless me with Your Name. ||4||5||

ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਿਉ ਹਰੇ ਬੂਟ ॥
mil paanee jiau hare boott |
As the plant turns green upon receiving water,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਿਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਛੂਟ ॥
saadhasangat tiau haumai chhoott |
just so, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, egotism is eradicated.
ਜੈਸੀ ਦਾਸੇ ਧੀਰ ਮੀਰ ॥
jaisee daase dheer meer |
Just as the servant is encouraged by his ruler,
ਤੈਸੇ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਗੁਰਹ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥
taise udhaaran gurah peer |1|
we are saved by the Guru. ||1||
ਤੁਮ ਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਨਹਾਰ ॥
tum daate prabh denahaar |
You are the Great Giver, O Generous Lord God.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nimakh nimakh tis namasakaar |1| rahaau |
Each and every instant, I humbly bow to You. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ॥
jiseh paraapat saadhasang |
Whoever enters the Saadh Sangat
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
tis jan laagaa paarabraham rang |
that humble being is imbued with the Love of the Supreme Lord God.
ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਮੁਕਤਿ ॥
te bandhan te bhe mukat |
He is liberated from bondage.
ਭਗਤ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ॥੨॥
bhagat araadheh jog jugat |2|
His devotees worship Him in adoration; they are united in His Union. ||2||
ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਿ ॥
netr santokhe daras pekh |
My eyes are content, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਰਸਨਾ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਣ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
rasanaa gaae gun anek |
My tongue sings the Infinite Praises of God.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੂਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
trisanaa boojhee gur prasaad |
My thirst is quenched, by Guru's Grace.
ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਹਿ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥੩॥
man aaghaanaa har raseh suaad |3|
My mind is satisfied, with the sublime taste of the Lord's subtle essence. ||3||
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਚਰਣ ਸੇਵ ॥
sevak laago charan sev |
Your servant is committed to the service of Your Feet,
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਦੇਵ ॥
aad purakh aparanpar dev |
O Primal Infinite Divine Being.
ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
sagal udhaaran tero naam |
Your Name is the Saving Grace of all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਓ ਇਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੬॥

You are the Great Giver; You continue to give.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ॥
jeea praan meh rav rahe |
You permeate and pervade my soul, and my breath of life.
ਦੀਨੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਨ ॥
deene sagale bhojan khaan |
You have given me all sorts of foods and dishes.
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਇਕੁ ਗੁਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਨ ॥੧॥
mohi niragun ik gun na jaan |1|
I am unworthy; I know none of Your Virtues at all. ||1||
ਹਉ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਰ ॥
hau kachhoo na jaanau teree saar |
I do not understand anything of Your Worth.
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Save me, O my Merciful Lord God. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾਪ ਨ ਤਾਪ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤਿ ॥
jaap na taap na karam keet |
I have not practiced meditation, austerities or good actions.
ਆਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਛੂ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
aavai naahee kachhoo reet |
I do not know the way to meet You.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਆਸ ਏਕ ॥
man meh raakhau aas ek |
Within my mind, I have placed my hopes in the One Lord alone.
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਤਰਉ ਟੇਕ ॥੨॥
naam tere kee trau ttek |2|
The Support of Your Name shall carry me across. ||2||
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮੑ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
sarab kalaa prabh tuma prabeen |
You are the Expert, O God, in all powers.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਲਹਿ ਮੀਨ ॥
ant na paaveh jaleh meen |
The fish cannot find the limits of the water.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਊਚਹ ਤੇ ਊਚ ॥
agam agam aoochah te aooch |
You are Inaccessible and Unfathomable, the Highest of the High.
ਹਮ ਥੋਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਮੂਚ ॥੩॥
ham thore tum bahut mooch |3|
I am small, and You are so very Great. ||3||
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਗਨੀ ॥
jin too dhiaaeaa se ganee |
Those who meditate on You are wealthy.
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਧਨੀ ॥
jin too paaeaa se dhanee |
Those who attain You are rich.
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸੁਖੀ ਸੇ ॥
jin too seviaa sukhee se |
Those who serve You are peaceful.
ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰੇ ॥੪॥੭॥

ਜਨੁ ਸਸਿ ਕੋ ਅਵਿਤਾਰ ਮਦਨ ਉਪਜਾਇਯੋ ॥
jan sas ko avitaar madan upajaaeiyo |
ਅਧਿਕ ਜੁਬਨ ਕੀ ਜੇਬ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਦਈ ਤਿਹ ॥
adhik juban kee jeb bidhaatai dee tih |
ਹੋ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਤ ਸੁਰ ਅਸੁਰ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ਕ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿਹ ॥੨॥
ho sukh paavat sur asur nihaare kraat jih |2|
ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਤਾ ਝਰੋਖੇ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
ek divas nrip sutaa jharokhe aae kai |
ਬੈਠਤ ਭੀ ਚਿਤ ਲਗੇ ਸੁ ਬੈਸ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
baitthat bhee chit lage su bais banaae kai |
ਸਾਹੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਤਹ ਆਇ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦੈ ਗਯੋ ॥
saahu putr teh aae dikhaaee dai gayo |
ਹੋ ਯਾ ਮਾਨਨਿ ਕੋ ਮਨਹਿ ਮਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਲੈ ਗਯੋ ॥੩॥

ਰਾਜ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਲਖਿ ਰੂਪ ਰਹੀ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
raaj kuar lakh roop rahee urajhaae kar |
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਤਹਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਧਨ ਦ੍ਰਯਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
patthai sahacharee tahaa bahut dhan drayaae kar |
ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਤਹਿ ਕ︀ਯੋਹੂੰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋ ਹ︀ਯਾਂ ਲ︀ਯਾਇ ਹੈ ॥
saahu suteh kayohoon bidh jo hayaan layaae hai |
ਹੋ ਜੋ ਮਾਗੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਤੂ ਸੋ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ho jo maage muhi too so ab hee paae hai |4|
ਸੁਨਤ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਕੋ ਬਚਨ ਸਖੀ ਤਹ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
sunat kuar ko bachan sakhee teh jaae kai |
ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਪਿਯ ਯਾ ਕਹ ਦਿਯਾ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਕੈ ॥

ਲੋਟਤ ਲੋਟਤ ਭੂ ਪਰ ਇਤ ਤੇ ਉਤ ਗਯੋ ॥

ਮਾਲ ਮਤਾਹਿ ਲੁਟਾਇ ਜਾਤ ਬਨ ਕੌ ਭਯੋ ॥

ਦੇਸ ਮਾਲ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗਯੋ ॥
