One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਦ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥
maahaa rutee meh sad basant |
Throughout the months and the seasons, the Lord is always in bloom.
ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤੁ ॥
jit hariaa sabh jeea jant |
He rejuvenates all beings and creatures.
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਜੰਤੁ ॥
kiaa hau aakhaa kiram jant |
What can I say? I am just a worm.
ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥੧॥
teraa kinai na paaeaa aad ant |1|
No one has found Your beginning or Your end, O Lord. ||1||
ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇਵ ॥
tai saahib kee kareh sev |
Those who serve You, Lord,
ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
param sukh paaveh aatam dev |1| rahaau |
obtain the greatest peace; their souls are so divine. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
karam hovai taan sevaa karai |
If the Lord is merciful, then the mortal is allowed to serve Him.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ॥
gur parasaadee jeevat marai |
By Guru's Grace, he remains dead while yet alive.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
anadin saach naam ucharai |
Night and day, he chants the True Name;
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੨॥
ein bidh praanee dutar tarai |2|
in this way, he crosses over the treacherous world-ocean. ||2||
ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
bikh amrit karataar upaae |
The Creator created both poison and nectar.
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਕਉ ਦੁਇ ਫਲ ਲਾਏ ॥
sansaar birakh kau due fal laae |
He attached these two fruits to the world-plant.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aape karataa kare karaae |
The Creator Himself is the Doer, the Cause of all.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਖਵਾਏ ॥੩॥
jo tis bhaavai tisai khavaae |3|
He feeds all as He pleases. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
naanak jis no nadar karee |
O Nanak, when He casts His Glance of Grace,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
amrit naam aape dee |
He Himself bestows His Ambrosial Naam.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
bikhiaa kee baasanaa maneh karee |
Thus, the desire for sin and corruption is ended.
ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥

The Lord Himself carries out His Own Will. ||4||1||

ਰਾਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥
raate saach har naam nihaalaa |
Those who are attuned to the True Lord's Name are happy and exalted.
ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
deaa karahu prabh deen deaalaa |
Take pity on me, O God, Merciful to the meek.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis bin avar nahee mai koe |
Without Him, I have no other at all.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
jiau bhaavai tiau raakhai soe |1|
As it pleases His Will, He keeps me. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
gur gopaal merai man bhaae |
The Guru, the Lord, is pleasing to my mind.
ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
reh na skau darasan dekhe bin sehaj milau gur mel milaae |1| rahaau |
I cannot even survive, without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. But I shall easily unite with the Guru, if He unites me in His Union. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥
eihu man lobhee lobh lubhaanaa |
The greedy mind is enticed by greed.
ਰਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥
raam bisaar bahur pachhutaanaa |
Forgetting the Lord, it regrets and repents in the end.
ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਰਾਂਗੇ ॥
bichhurat milaae gur sev raange |
The separated ones are reunited, when they are inspired to serve the Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੨॥
har naam deeo masatak vaddabhaage |2|
They are blessed with the Lord's Name - such is the destiny written on their foreheads. ||2||
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
paun paanee kee ih deh sareeraa |
This body is built of air and water.
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਠਿਨ ਤਨਿ ਪੀਰਾ ॥
haumai rog katthin tan peeraa |
The body is afflicted with the terribly painful illness of egotism.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
guramukh raam naam daaroo gun gaaeaa |
The Gurmukh has the Medicine: singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
kar kirapaa gur rog gavaaeaa |3|
Granting His Grace, the Guru has cured the illness. ||3||
ਚਾਰਿ ਨਦੀਆ ਅਗਨੀ ਤਨਿ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
chaar nadeea aganee tan chaare |
The four evils are the four rivers of fire flowing through the body.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਜਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ॥
trisanaa jalat jale ahankaare |
It is burning in desire, and burning in egotism.
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੇ ॥
gur raakhe vaddabhaagee taare |
Those whom the Guru protects and saves are very fortunate.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥
jan naanak ur har amrit dhaare |4|2|
Servant Nanak enshrines the Ambrosial Name of the Lord in his heart. ||4||2||

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਲੋਗੁ ॥
har seve so har kaa log |
One who serves the Lord is the Lord's person.
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
saach sehaj kade na hovai sog |
He dwells in intuitive peace, and never suffers in sorrow.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
manamukh mue naahee har man maeh |
The self-willed manmukhs are dead; the Lord is not within their minds.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਭੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
mar mar jameh bhee mar jaeh |1|
They die and die again and again, and are reincarnated, only to die once more. ||1||
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਜੀਵੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
se jan jeeve jin har man maeh |
They alone are alive, whose minds are filled with the Lord.
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮੑਾਲਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saach samaaleh saach samaeh |1| rahaau |
They contemplate the True Lord, and are absorbed in the True Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
har na seveh te har te door |
Those who do not serve the Lord are far away from the Lord.
ਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
disantar bhaveh sir paaveh dhoor |
They wander in foreign lands, with dust thrown on their heads.
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਲਾਇ ॥
har aape jan lee laae |
The Lord Himself enjoins His humble servants to serve Him.
ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
tin sadaa sukh hai til na tamaae |2|
They live in peace forever, and have no greed at all. ||2||
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
nadar kare chookai abhimaan |
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, egotism is eradicated.
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
saachee daragah paavai maan |
Then, the mortal is honored in the Court of the True Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
har jeeo vekhai sad hajoor |
He sees the Dear Lord always close at hand, ever-present.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥
gur kai sabad rahiaa bharapoor |3|
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he sees the Lord pervading and permeating all. ||3||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
jeea jant kee kare pratipaal |
The Lord cherishes all beings and creatures.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਦ ਸਮੑਾਲ ॥
gur parasaadee sad samaal |
By Guru's Grace, contemplate Him forever.
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
dar saachai pat siau ghar jaae |
You shall go to your true home in the Lord's Court with honor.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak naam vaddaaee paae |4|3|
O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall be blessed with glorious greatness. ||4||3||

roop alok bilok maheep ko sok nivaar rahee urajhaaee |
ਦੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਸਕੁਚੈ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਤਊ ਜੋਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਬਾਧਿ ਢਿਠਾਈ ॥
dekh prabhaa sakuchai jiy mai taoo jor rahee drig baadh dtitthaaee |
ਧਾਮ ਗਈ ਮਨ ਹੁਆਂ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਜਨੁ ਜੂਪ ਹਰਾਇ ਜੁਆਰੀ ਕੀ ਨ੍ਰਯਾਈ ॥੪॥
dhaam gee man huaan hee rahiyo jan joop haraae juaaree kee nrayaaee |4|
ਧਾਮਨ ਜਾਇ ਸਖੀ ਇਕ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਨੈਨ ਕੀ ਸੈਨਨ ਤੀਰ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
dhaaman jaae sakhee ik sundaree nain kee sainan teer bulaaee |
ਕਾਢ ਦਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਧਨ ਵਾ ਕਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕਨ ਸੌ ਸਮੁਝਾਈ ॥
kaadt dayo at hee dhan vaa keh bhaat anekan sau samujhaaee |
ਪਾਇ ਪਰੀ ਮਨੁਹਾਰਿ ਕਰੀ ਭੁਜ ਹਾਥ ਧਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੈ ਘਿਘਿਆਈ ॥
paae paree manuhaar karee bhuj haath dharee bahutai ghighiaaee |
ਮੀਤ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਕਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਹੈ ਜਿਯ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੀ ਕਹਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥੫॥
meet milaae ki mohu na paae hai jiy ju hutee keh tohi sunaaee |5|
ਜੋਗਿਨ ਹੈ ਬਸਿਹੌ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਸਖਿ ਭੂਖਨ ਛੋਰਿ ਬਿਭੂਤਿ ਚੜੈ ਹੌ ॥
jogin hai basihau ban mai sakh bhookhan chhor bibhoot charrai hau |
ਅੰਗਨ ਮੈ ਸਜਿਹੌ ਭਗਵੇ ਪਟ ਹਾਥ ਬਿਖੈ ਗਡੂਆ ਗਹਿ ਲੈਹੌ ॥
angan mai sajihau bhagave patt haath bikhai gaddooaa geh laihau |
ਨੈਨਨ ਕੀ ਪੁਤਰੀਨ ਕੇ ਪਤ੍ਰਨ ਬਾਕੀ ਬਿਲੋਕਨਿ ਮਾਗਿ ਅਘੈਹੌ ॥
nainan kee putareen ke patran baakee bilokan maag aghaihau |
ਦੇਹਿ ਛੁਟੋ ਕ︀ਯੋਨ ਨ ਆਯੁ ਘਟੋ ਪਿਯ ਐਸੀ ਘਟਾਨ ਮੈ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਦੈ ਹੌ ॥੬॥
dehi chhutto kayon na aay ghatto piy aisee ghattaan mai jaan na dai hau |6|
ਏਕਤੁ ਬੋਲਤ ਮੋਰ ਕਰੋਰਿਨ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਕੋਕਿਲ ਕਾਕੁ ਹਕਾਰੈਂ ॥
ekat bolat mor karorin doosare kokil kaak hakaarain |
ਦਾਦਰ ਦਾਹਤ ਹੈ ਹਿਯ ਕੌ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਨੀ ਪਰੈ ਛਿਤ ਮੇਘ ਫੁਹਾਰੈ ॥
daadar daahat hai hiy kau ar paanee parai chhit megh fuhaarai |
ਝਿੰਗ੍ਰ ਕਰੈ ਝਰਨਾ ਉਰ ਮਾਝ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਕਿ ਬਿਦਲਤਾ ਚਮਕਾਰੈ ॥
jhingr karai jharanaa ur maajh kripaan ki bidalataa chamakaarai |
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਬਚੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਰਨ ਤੇ ਪਿਯ ਆਸ ਲਗੈ ਨਹਿ ਆਜ ਪਧਾਰੈ ॥੭॥

ਚਤੁਰਿ ਦੂਤਿਕਾ ਤਹ ਇਕ ਅਬੈ ਪਠਾਇਯੈ ॥
chatur dootikaa teh ik abai patthaaeiyai |
ਹੋ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮਨਿ ਤਿਲਕ ਕੁਅਰ ਕੌ ਭੇਦ ਮੰਗਾਇਯੈ ॥੮॥
ho sree man tilak kuar kau bhed mangaaeiyai |8|
ਸੁਨਤ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਬਾਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਮੀਠੀ ਲਗੀ ॥
sunat manohar baat adhik meetthee lagee |
ਬਿਰਹਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੀ ਜ੍ਵਾਲ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਿਯ ਜਗੀ ॥
bireh agan kee jvaal kuar ke jiy jagee |
ਚਤੁਰਿ ਸਖੀ ਇਕ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਈ ਮੀਤ ਤਨ ॥
chatur sakhee ik bol patthaaee meet tan |
ਹੋ ਜਿਯ ਜਾਨੀ ਮੁਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਿਯ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨ ॥੯॥
