gang gusaaein gahir ganbheer |
The mother Ganges is deep and profound.
ਜੰਜੀਰ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਖਰੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧॥
janjeer baandh kar khare kabeer |1|
Tied up in chains, they took Kabeer there. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਨ ਡਿਗੈ ਤਨੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਡਰਾਇ ॥
man na ddigai tan kaahe kau ddaraae |
My mind was not shaken; why should my body be afraid?
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

My consciousness remained immersed in the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਗੰਗਾ ਕੀ ਲਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਟੁਟੀ ਜੰਜੀਰ ॥
gangaa kee lehar meree ttuttee janjeer |
The waves of the Ganges broke the chains,
ਮ੍ਰਿਗਛਾਲਾ ਪਰ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੨॥
mrigachhaalaa par baitthe kabeer |2|
and Kabeer was seated on a deer skin. ||2||
ਕਹਿ ਕੰਬੀਰ ਕੋਊ ਸੰਗ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥
keh kanbeer koaoo sang na saath |
Says Kabeer, I have no friend or companion.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਰਾਖਨ ਹੈ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ॥੩॥੧੦॥੧੮॥

God constructed a fortress, inaccessible and unreachable, in which He dwells.
ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥
jaa meh jot kare paragaas |
There, His Divine Light radiates forth.
ਬਿਜੁਲੀ ਚਮਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
bijulee chamakai hoe anand |
Lightning blazes, and bliss prevails there,
ਜਿਹ ਪਉੜੑੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥੧॥
jih paurrae prabh baal gobind |1|
where the Eternally Young Lord God abides. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
eihu jeeo raam naam liv laagai |
This soul is lovingly attuned to the Lord's Name.
ਜਰਾ ਮਰਨੁ ਛੂਟੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaraa maran chhoottai bhram bhaagai |1| rahaau |
It is saved from old age and death, and its doubt runs away. ||1||Pause||
ਅਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
abaran baran siau man hee preet |
Those who believe in high and low social classes,
ਹਉਮੈ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੀਤ ॥
haumai gaavan gaaveh geet |
only sing songs and chants of egotism.
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਹੋਤ ਝੁਨਕਾਰ ॥
anahad sabad hot jhunakaar |
The Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad, the Word of God, resounds in that place,
ਜਿਹ ਪਉੜੑੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੨॥

where the Supreme Lord God abides. ||2||
ਖੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ॥
khanddal manddal manddal manddaa |
He creates planets, solar systems and galaxies;
ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੀਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਖੰਡਾ ॥
tria asathaan teen tria khanddaa |
He destroys the three worlds, the three gods and the three qualities.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਭ ਅੰਤ ॥
agam agochar rahiaa abh ant |
The Inaccessible and Unfathomable Lord God dwells in the heart.
ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਧਰਨੀਧਰ ਮੰਤ ॥੩॥
paar na paavai ko dharaneedhar mant |3|
No one can find the limits or the secrets of the Lord of the World. ||3||
ਕਦਲੀ ਪੁਹਪ ਧੂਪ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥
kadalee puhap dhoop paragaas |
The Lord shines forth in the plantain flower and the sunshine.
ਰਜ ਪੰਕਜ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਓ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
raj pankaj meh leeo nivaas |
He dwells in the pollen of the lotus flower.
ਦੁਆਦਸ ਦਲ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੰਤ ॥
duaadas dal abh antar mant |
The Lord's secret is within the twelve petals of the heart-lotus.
ਜਹ ਪਉੜੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਮਲਾ ਕੰਤ ॥੪॥
jeh paurre sree kamalaa kant |4|
The Supreme Lord, the Lord of Lakshmi dwells there. ||4||
ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੋ ਕਾਸੁ ॥
aradh uradh mukh laago kaas |
He is like the sky, stretching across the lower, upper and middle realms.
ਸੁੰਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
sun manddal meh kar paragaas |
In the profoundly silent celestial realm, He radiates forth.
ਊਹਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਹੀ ਚੰਦ ॥
aoohaan sooraj naahee chand |
Neither the sun nor the moon are there,
ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਅਨੰਦ ॥੫॥
aad niranjan karai anand |5|
but the Primal Immaculate Lord celebrates there. ||5||
ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਿ ਪਿੰਡਿ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
so brahamandd pindd so jaan |
Know that He is in the universe, and in the body as well.
ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
maan sarovar kar isanaan |
Take your cleansing bath in the Mansarovar Lake.
ਸੋਹੰ ਸੋ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਜਾਪ ॥
sohan so jaa kau hai jaap |
Chant "Sohang" - "He is me."
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਲਿਪਤ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਪੁੰਨ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਪ ॥੬॥
jaa kau lipat na hoe pun ar paap |6|
He is not affected by either virtue or vice. ||6||
ਅਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਘਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਛਾਮ ॥
abaran baran ghaam nahee chhaam |
He is not affected by either high or low social class, sunshine or shade.
ਅਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਮ ॥
avar na paaeeai gur kee saam |
He is in the Guru's Sanctuary, and nowhere else.
ਟਾਰੀ ਨ ਟਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
ttaaree na ttarai aavai na jaae |
He is not diverted by diversions, comings or goings.
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਹਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੭॥
sun sehaj meh rahio samaae |7|
Remain intuitively absorbed in the celestial void. ||7||
ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
man madhe jaanai je koe |
One who knows the Lord in the mind
ਜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੋ ਆਪੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo bolai so aapai hoe |
whatever he says, comes to pass.
ਜੋਤਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
jot mantr man asathir karai |
One who firmly implants the Lord's Divine Light, and His Mantra within the mind
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਤਰੈ ॥੮॥੧॥
keh kabeer so praanee tarai |8|1|
- says Kabeer, such a mortal crosses over to the other side. ||8||1||

Millions of suns shine for Him,
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਕਬਿਲਾਸ ॥

millions of Shivas and Kailash mountains.
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਰਦਨੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
duragaa kott jaa kai maradan karai |
Millions of Durga goddesses massage His Feet.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਬੇਦ ਉਚਰੈ ॥੧॥
brahamaa kott bed ucharai |1|
Millions of Brahmas chant the Vedas for Him. ||1||
ਜਉ ਜਾਚਉ ਤਉ ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ॥
jau jaachau tau keval raam |
When I beg, I beg only from the Lord.
ਆਨ ਦੇਵ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I have nothing to do with any other deities. ||1||Pause||

Millions of moons twinkle in the sky.
ਸੁਰ ਤੇਤੀਸਉ ਜੇਵਹਿ ਪਾਕ ॥

Three hundred thirty million gods eat the Lord's offerings.
ਨਵ ਗ੍ਰਹ ਕੋਟਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥
nav grah kott tthaadte darabaar |
The nine stars, a million times over, stand at His Door.
ਧਰਮ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
dharam kott jaa kai pratihaar |2|
Millions of Righteous Judges of Dharma are His gate-keepers. ||2||
ਪਵਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਚਉਬਾਰੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥
pavan kott chaubaare fireh |
Millions of winds blow around Him in the four directions.
ਬਾਸਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਸਥਰਹਿ ॥
baasak kott sej bisathareh |
Millions of serpents prepare His bed.
ਸਮੁੰਦ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥
samund kott jaa ke paaneehaar |
Millions of oceans are His water-carriers.
ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਭਾਰ ॥੩॥

The eighteen million loads of vegetation are His Hair. ||3||

Millions of treasurers fill His Treasury.
ਕੋਟਿਕ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਕਰੈ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥

Millions of Lakshmis adorn themselves for Him.
ਕੋਟਿਕ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਬਹੁ ਹਿਰਹਿ ॥
kottik paap pun bahu hireh |
Many millions of vices and virtues look up to Him.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ॥੪॥
eindr kott jaa ke sevaa kareh |4|
Millions of Indras serve Him. ||4||
ਛਪਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਹਾਰ ॥
chhapan kott jaa kai pratihaar |
Fifty-six million clouds are His.
ਨਗਰੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਖਿਅਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
nagaree nagaree khiat apaar |
In each and every village, His infinite fame has spread.
ਲਟ ਛੂਟੀ ਵਰਤੈ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥

Wild demons with dishevelled hair move about.
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਲਾ ਖੇਲੈ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੫॥

The Lord plays in countless ways. ||5||
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਗ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥

Millions of charitable feasts are held in His Court,
ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰ ॥
gandhrab kott kareh jaikaar |
and millions of celestial singers celebrate His victory.
ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੋਟਿ ਸਭੈ ਗੁਨ ਕਹੈ ॥
bidiaa kott sabhai gun kahai |
Millions of sciences all sing His Praises.
ਤਊ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ॥੬॥
taoo paarabraham kaa ant na lahai |6|
Even so, the limits of the Supreme Lord God cannot be found. ||6||
ਬਾਵਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੋਮਾਵਲੀ ॥
baavan kott jaa kai romaavalee |
Rama, with millions of monkeys,
ਰਾਵਨ ਸੈਨਾ ਜਹ ਤੇ ਛਲੀ ॥
raavan sainaa jeh te chhalee |
Conquered Raawan's army.
ਸਹਸ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਹਤ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥
sehas kott bahu kehat puraan |
Billions of Puraanas greatly praise Him;
ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਕਾ ਮਥਿਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੭॥
durajodhan kaa mathiaa maan |7|
He humbled the pride of Duyodhan. ||7||
ਕੰਦ੍ਰਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਧਰਹਿ ॥
kandrap kott jaa kai lavai na dhareh |
Millions of gods of love cannot compete with Him.
ਅੰਤਰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਹਰਹਿ ॥
antar antar manasaa hareh |
He steals the hearts of mortal beings.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਨ ॥
keh kabeer sun saarigapaan |
Says Kabeer, please hear me, O Lord of the World.

ਕੈ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਤੈ ਹਮਰੀ ਆਸ ਨ ਕੀਜਿਯੈ ॥
kai ab hee tai hamaree aas na keejiyai |
ਹੋ ਨਾਤਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਸਜਨ ਕੌ ਦੀਜਿਯੈ ॥੫॥

ਪਵਨ ਭੇਸ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਸਖੀ ਤਹਾ ਤੇ ਤਹ ਗਈ ॥

ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧ ਕਰਤ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਭਈ ॥
bhaat anek prabodh karat taa kau bhee |
ਉਤਿਮ ਭੇਸ ਸੁ ਧਾਰ ਲ︀ਯਾਈ ਤਿਹ ਤਹਾ ॥
autim bhes su dhaar layaaee tih tahaa |
ਹੋ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਮਤੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਤਾ ਬਹਿਠੀ ਥੀ ਜਹਾ ॥੬॥

ਉਠਿ ਸੁ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਲੀਨ ਗਰੇ ਸੌ ਲਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥

ਤਬ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਮੈ ਤਾਤ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
tab te ab mai taat nihaaraa |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਾ ਮੋਹ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੧੦॥
