ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
gur sevaa te amrit fal paaeaa haumai trisan bujhaaee |
Serving the Guru, I obtain the Ambrosial Fruit; my egotism and desire have been quenched.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
har kaa naam hridai man vasiaa manasaa maneh samaaee |1|
The Name of the Lord dwells within my heart and mind, and the desires of my mind are quieted. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
har jeeo kripaa karahu mere piaare |
O Dear Lord, my Beloved, please bless me with Your Mercy.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਦੀਨ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anadin har gun deen jan maangai gur kai sabad udhaare |1| rahaau |
Night and day, Your humble servant begs for Your Glorious Praises; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is saved. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਰਤੀ ਅੰਚ ਦੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਈ ॥
sant janaa kau jam johi na saakai ratee anch dookh na laaee |
The Messenger of Death cannot even touch the humble Saints; it does not cause them even an iota of suffering or pain.
ਆਪਿ ਤਰਹਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
aap tareh sagale kul taareh jo teree saranaaee |2|
Those who enter Your Sanctuary, Lord, save themselves, and save all their ancestors as well. ||2||
ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਏਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
bhagataa kee paij rakheh too aape eeh teree vaddiaaee |
You Yourself save the honor of Your devotees; this is Your Glory, O Lord.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟਹਿ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਰਤੀ ਨ ਰਾਈ ॥੩॥
janam janam ke kilavikh dukh kaatteh dubidhaa ratee na raaee |3|
You cleanse them of the sins and the pains of countless incarnations; You love them without even an iota of duality. ||3||
ਹਮ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਿਛੁ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
ham moorr mugadh kichh boojheh naahee too aape dehi bujhaaee |
I am foolish and ignorant, and understand nothing. You Yourself bless me with understanding.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥
jo tudh bhaavai soee karasee avar na karanaa jaaee |4|
You do whatever You please; nothing else can be done at all. ||4||
ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
jagat upaae tudh dhandhai laaeaa bhoonddee kaar kamaaee |
Creating the world, You have linked all to their tasks - even the evil deeds which men do.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੂਐ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥
janam padaarath jooai haariaa sabadai surat na paaee |5|
They lose this precious human life in the gamble, and do not understand the Word of the Shabad. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
manamukh mareh tin kichhoo na soojhai duramat agiaan andhaaraa |
The self-willed manmukhs die, understanding nothing; they are enveloped by the darkness of evil-mindedness and ignorance.
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥੬॥
bhavajal paar na paaveh kab hee ddoob mue bin gur sir bhaaraa |6|
They do not cross over the terrible world-ocean; without the Guru, they drown and die. ||6||
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
saachai sabad rate jan saache har prabh aap milaae |
True are those humble beings who are imbued with the True Shabad; the Lord God unites them with Himself.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੭॥
gur kee baanee sabad pachhaatee saach rahe liv laae |7|
Through the Word of the Guru's Bani, they come to understand the Shabad. They remain lovingly focused on the True Lord. ||7||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
toon aap niramal tere jan hai niramal gur kai sabad veechaare |
You Yourself are Immaculate and Pure, and pure are Your humble servants who contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੨॥੩॥
naanak tin kai sad balihaarai raam naam ur dhaare |8|2|3|
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those, who enshrine the Lord's Name within their hearts. ||8||2||3||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋਈ ਵਡ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
jis naam ridai soee vadd raajaa |
He alone is a great king, who keeps the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within his heart.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis poore kaajaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart - his tasks are perfectly accomplished.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਧਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis naam ridai tin kott dhan paae |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart, obtains millions of treasures.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
naam binaa janam birathaa jaae |1|
Without the Naam, life is useless. ||1||
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
tis saalaahee jis har dhan raas |
I praise that person, who has the capital of the Lord's Wealth.
ਸੋ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਾਥੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so vaddabhaagee jis gur masatak haath |1| rahaau |
He is very fortunate, on whose forehead the Guru has placed His Hand. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੋਟ ਕਈ ਸੈਨਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis kott kee sainaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart, has many millions of armies on his side.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੈਨਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis sehaj sukhainaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart, enjoys peace and poise.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੂਆ ॥
jis naam ridai so seetal hooaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart becomes cool and calm.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮੂਆ ॥੨॥
naam binaa dhrig jeevan mooaa |2|
Without the Naam, both life and death are cursed. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridai so jeevan mukataa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is Jivan-mukta, liberated while yet alive.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis sabh hee jugataa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart knows all ways and means.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jis naam ridai tin nau nidh paaee |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart obtains the nine treasures.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
naam binaa bhram aavai jaaee |3|
Without the Naam, the mortal wanders, coming and going in reincarnation. ||3||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
jis naam ridai so veparavaahaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is carefree and independent.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis sad hee laahaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart always earns a profit.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis vadd paravaaraa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart has a large family.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
naam binaa manamukh gaavaaraa |4|
Without the Naam, the mortal is just an ignorant, self-willed manmukh. ||4||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਆਸਨੁ ॥
jis naam ridai tis nihachal aasan |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart has a permanent position.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਨੁ ॥
jis naam ridai tis takhat nivaasan |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is seated on the throne.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
jis naam ridai so saachaa saahu |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is the true king.
ਨਾਮਹੀਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥੫॥
naamaheen naahee pat vesaahu |5|
Without the Naam, no one has any honor or respect. ||5||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridai so sabh meh jaataa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is famous everywhere.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jis naam ridai so purakh bidhaataa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is the Embodiment of the Creator Lord.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥
jis naam ridai so sabh te aoochaa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is the highest of all.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੬॥
naam binaa bhram jonee moochaa |6|
Without the Naam, the mortal wanders in reincarnation. ||6||
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿ ਪਹਾਰਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis pragatt pahaaraa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart sees the Lord manifested in His Creation.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
jis naam ridai tis mittiaa andhaaraa |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart - his darkness is dispelled.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jis naam ridai so purakh paravaan |
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is approved and accepted.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੭॥
naam binaa fir aavan jaan |7|
Without the Naam, the mortal continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||7||
ਤਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
tin naam paaeaa jis bheo kripaal |
He alone receives the Naam, who is blessed by the Lord's Mercy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਲਖੇ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥
saadhasangat meh lakhe goupaal |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Lord of the World is understood.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
aavan jaan rahe sukh paaeaa |
Coming and going in reincarnation ends, and peace is found.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੈ ਤਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੪॥

Says Nanak, my essence has merged in the Essence of the Lord. ||8||1||4||

ਨਿਜ ਨਾਰੀ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਕੁਅਰ ਕਰੁ ਆਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
nij naaree muhi kariyo kuar kar aae kar |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੌ ਭਜੋ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
bhaat bhaat sau bhajo param sukh paae kar |
ਭੂਪ ਤਿਲਕ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ਨ ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਜਿਯੈ ॥
bhoop tilak kee kaan na chit meh keejiyai |
ਹੋ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਮੋਰਿ ਸਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਜਿਯੈ ॥੫॥

ਤਬ ਹਮ ਸੰਕ ਤ︀ਯਾਗ ਤੁਹਿ ਬਰਹੀ ॥
tab ham sank tayaag tuhi barahee |
ਭੂਪ ਤਿਲਕ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ਨ ਕਰਹੀ ॥੭॥
bhoop tilak kee kaan na karahee |7|
ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਬ ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
saahu sutaa jab yau sun paavaa |
ਚੰਡਾਰਿਨਿ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਵਾ ॥
chanddaarin ko bhes banaavaa |
ਕਰ ਮੋ ਧਰਤ ਬੁਹਾਰੀ ਭਈ ॥
kar mo dharat buhaaree bhee |
ਸੇਰ ਸਾਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਹਲਨ ਗਈ ॥੮॥

ਤਹੀ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਇਹ ਭੇਸ ਪਹੂਚੀ ਜਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥

ਹੋ ਅਰਧ ਰਾਤ੍ਰਿ ਭੇ ਛੋਰਾ ਬਾਜ ਬਨਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥੧੦॥

ਜਬ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਜਰਤਿ ਕੋ ਗਯੋ ॥

ਸਭਹਿਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਮੈ ਜਿਯ ਭਯੋ ॥
sabhahin ko bisamai jiy bhayo |
ਜਹਾ ਨ ਸਕਤ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ਪਵਨ ਕਰਿ ॥
jahaa na sakat praves pavan kar |
ਤਹ ਤੇ ਲਯੋ ਤੁਰੰਗਮ ਕਿਨ ਹਰਿ ॥੧੪॥

ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਚਨ ਹਜਰਤਿ ਇਮ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
praat bachan hajarat im kiyo |
ਅਭੈ ਦਾਨ ਚੋਰਹਿ ਮੈ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
abhai daan choreh mai diyo |
ਜੋ ਵਹ ਮੋ ਕਹ ਬਦਨ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
jo veh mo keh badan dikhaavai |
ਬੀਸ ਸਹਸ੍ਰ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੫॥

ਅਭੈ ਦਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਮੈ ਦ੍ਰਯਾਯੋ ॥
abhai daan taa kau mai drayaayo |
ਖਾਈ ਸਪਤ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਉਚਾਯੋ ॥
khaaee sapat kuraan uchaayo |
ਤਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭੇਸ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੋ ਧਰਾ ॥
tab triy bhes purakh ko dharaa |
ਸੇਰ ਸਾਹ ਕਹ ਸਿਜਦਾ ਕਰਾ ॥੧੬॥
