ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਗਲੀ ਥੀਤਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
sagalee theet paas ddaar raakhee |
Setting aside all other days,
ਅਸਟਮ ਥੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਨਮਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
asattam theet govind janamaa see |1|
It is said that the Lord was born on the eighth lunar day. ||1||
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਰ ਕਰਤ ਕਚਰਾਇਣ ॥
bharam bhoole nar karat kacharaaein |
Deluded and confused by doubt, the mortal practices falsehood.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam maran te rehat naaraaein |1| rahaau |
The Lord is beyond birth and death. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਪੰਜੀਰੁ ਖਵਾਇਓ ਚੋਰ ॥
kar panjeer khavaaeo chor |
You prepare sweet treats and feed them to your stone god.
ਓਹੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਢੋਰ ॥੨॥
ohu janam na marai re saakat dtor |2|
God is not born, and He does not die, you foolish, faithless cynic! ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਧ ਦੇਹਿ ਲੋਰੋਨੀ ॥
sagal paraadh dehi loronee |
You sing lullabyes to your stone god - this is the source of all your mistakes.
ਸੋ ਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਹਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜੋਨੀ ॥੩॥
so mukh jlau jit kaheh tthaakur jonee |3|
Let that mouth be burnt, which says that our Lord and Master is subject to birth. ||3||
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
janam na marai na aavai na jaae |
He is not born, and He does not die; He does not come and go in reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak kaa prabh rahio samaae |4|1|
The God of Nanak is pervading and permeating everywhere. ||4||1||

ਊਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥
aootthat sukheea baitthat sukheea |
Standing up, I am at peace; sitting down, I am at peace.
ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਬੁਝੀਆ ॥੧॥
bhau nahee laagai jaan aise bujheea |1|
I feel no fear, because this is what I understand. ||1||
ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
raakhaa ek hamaaraa suaamee |
The One Lord, my Lord and Master, is my Protector.
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal ghattaa kaa antarajaamee |1| rahaau |
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of Hearts. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਗਿ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
soe achintaa jaag achintaa |
I sleep without worry, and I awake without worry.
ਜਹਾ ਕਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
jahaa kahaan prabh toon varatantaa |2|
You, O God, are pervading everywhere. ||2||
ਘਰਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ghar sukh vasiaa baahar sukh paaeaa |
I dwell in peace in my home, and I am at peace outside.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥੨॥

Says Nanak, the Guru has implanted His Mantra within me. ||3||2||

ਵਰਤ ਨ ਰਹਉ ਨ ਮਹ ਰਮਦਾਨਾ ॥
varat na rhau na meh ramadaanaa |
I do not keep fasts, nor do I observe the month of Ramadaan.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਜੋ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
tis sevee jo rakhai nidaanaa |1|
I serve only the One, who will protect me in the end. ||1||
ਏਕੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਅਲਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
ek gusaaee alahu meraa |
The One Lord, the Lord of the World, is my God Allah.
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੁਰਕ ਦੁਹਾਂ ਨੇਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hindoo turak duhaan neberaa |1| rahaau |
He adminsters justice to both Hindus and Muslims. ||1||Pause||
ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਉ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
haj kaabai jaau na teerath poojaa |
I do not make pilgrimages to Mecca, nor do I worship at Hindu sacred shrines.
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥
eko sevee avar na doojaa |2|
I serve the One Lord, and not any other. ||2||
ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਉ ਨ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ ॥
poojaa krau na nivaaj gujaarau |
I do not perform Hindu worship services, nor do I offer the Muslim prayers.
ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ ॥੩॥
ek nirankaar le ridai namasakaarau |3|
I have taken the One Formless Lord into my heart; I humbly worship Him there. ||3||
ਨਾ ਹਮ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ॥
naa ham hindoo na musalamaan |
I am not a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim.
ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥
alah raam ke pindd paraan |4|
My body and breath of life belong to Allah - to Raam - the God of both. ||4||
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥
kahu kabeer ihu keea vakhaanaa |
Says Kabeer, this is what I say:
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥
gur peer mil khud khasam pachhaanaa |5|3|
meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. ||5||3||

ਦਸ ਮਿਰਗੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਆਨੀ ॥
das miragee sahaje bandh aanee |
I easily tied up the deer - the ten sensory organs.
ਪਾਂਚ ਮਿਰਗ ਬੇਧੇ ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
paanch mirag bedhe siv kee baanee |1|
I shot five of the desires with the Word of the Lord's Bani. ||1||
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲੇ ਚੜਿਓ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥
santasang le charrio sikaar |
I go out hunting with the Saints,
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਹਥੀਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mrig pakare bin ghor hatheeaar |1| rahaau |
and we capture the deer without horses or weapons. ||1||Pause||
ਆਖੇਰ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਧਾਇ ॥
aakher birat baahar aaeo dhaae |
My mind used to run around outside hunting.
ਅਹੇਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਗਾਂਇ ॥੨॥
aheraa paaeo ghar kai gaane |2|
But now, I have found the game within the home of my body-village. ||2||
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੇ ਹਾਟਿ ॥
mrig pakare ghar aane haatt |
I caught the deer and brought them home.
ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਬਾਂਢੇ ਬਾਟਿ ॥੩॥
chukh chukh le ge baandte baatt |3|
Dividing them up, I shared them, bit by bit. ||3||
ਏਹੁ ਅਹੇਰਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
ehu aheraa keeno daan |
God has given this gift.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੪॥
naanak kai ghar keval naam |4|4|
Nanak's home is filled with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||4||

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚਿ ਲੋਚਿ ਖਾਵਾਇਆ ॥
je sau loch loch khaavaaeaa |
Even though he may be fed with hundreds of longings and yearnings,
ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
saakat har har cheet na aaeaa |1|
still the faithless cynic does not remember the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਤੇ ॥
sant janaa kee lehu mate |
Take in the teachings of the humble Saints.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhasang paavahu param gate |1| rahaau |
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall obtain the supreme status. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਪਵਾਇਆ ॥
paathar kau bahu neer pavaaeaa |
Stones may be kept under water for a long time.
ਨਹ ਭੀਗੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੂਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
neh bheegai adhik sookaaeaa |2|
Even so, they do not absorb the water; they remain hard and dry. ||2||
ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਰਖੈ ਸੁਨਾਇਆ ॥
khatt saasatr moorakhai sunaaeaa |
The six Shaastras may be read to a fool,
ਜੈਸੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
jaise deh dis pavan jhulaaeaa |3|
but it is like the wind blowing in the ten directions. ||3||
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਣ ਖਲਹਾਨੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਗਾਹਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bin kan khalahaan jaise gaahan paaeaa |
It is like threshing a crop without any corn - nothing is gained.
ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਕੋ ਨ ਬਰਾਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
tiau saakat te ko na baraasaaeaa |4|
In the same way, no benefit comes from the faithless cynic. ||4||
ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
tit hee laagaa jit ko laaeaa |
As the Lord attaches them, so are all attached.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੫॥
kahu naanak prabh banat banaaeaa |5|5|
Says Nanak, God has formed such a form. ||5||5||

tum kau aan jaraa geh leeno |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਸਭ ਕਛੁ ਤਜਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੭॥
taa te tum sabh kachh taj deeno |7|
ਸੁਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮੈ ਨ ਬਿਰਧ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ॥
sun triy mai na biradh hvai gayo |
ਜਰਾ ਨ ਆਨਿ ਬ︀ਯਾਪਕ ਭਯੋ ॥
jaraa na aan bayaapak bhayo |
ਕਹੈ ਤੁ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਜਾਉ ਸਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
kahai tu ab hee jaau sikaaraa |
ਮਾਰੌ ਰੋਝ ਰੀਛ ਝੰਖਾਰਾ ॥੮॥
maarau rojh reechh jhankhaaraa |8|
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਬਚਨ ਅਖੇਟਕ ਗਯੋ ॥
yau keh bachan akhettak gayo |
ਰਾਨੀ ਟਾਰ ਜਾਰ ਕੋ ਦਯੋ ॥
raanee ttaar jaar ko dayo |
ਨਿਸੁ ਭੇ ਖੇਲਿ ਅਖੇਟਕ ਆਯੋ ॥
nis bhe khel akhettak aayo |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਜੜ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੯॥
bhed abhed jarr kachhoo na paayo |9|

baal hutee brikhabhaan kalaa ik roop lasai jih ko jag bhaaree |
ਖੇਲ ਅਖੇਟਕ ਆਵਤ ਹੂੰ ਇਨ ਰਾਇ ਕਹੂੰ ਵਹੁ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
khel akhettak aavat hoon in raae kahoon vahu naar nihaaree |
ਐਚਿ ਬਰਿਯੋ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਬਹੀਯਾ ਤਿਨ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਇਨ ਰਾਜ ਦੁਲਾਰੀ ॥
aich bariyo geh kai baheeyaa tin baat sunee in raaj dulaaree |
ਕੋਪ ਭਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਗਿ ਜਰੀ ਮੁਖ ਨ︀ਯਾਇ ਰਹੀ ਨ ਉਚਾਵਤ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
kop bharee bin aag jaree mukh nayaae rahee na uchaavat naaree |3|

ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਥਹਿ ਭੋਜਨ ਮੈ ਮਕਰੀ ਖ੍ਵਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
nij naatheh bhojan mai makaree khvaae kai |
ਰੀਝਿ ਰੀਝਿ ਵਹ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਤਬੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਯੌ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
reejh reejh veh mariyo tabai triy yau kiyo |
ਹੋ ਜਾਰਿ ਬਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਥ ਸਵਤ ਕਹ ਗਹਿ ਲਿਯੋ ॥੭॥
ho jaar baar kar naath savat keh geh liyo |7|
ਇਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਡਿਯਨ ਕੀਯਾ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
ein raajaa ke guddiyan keeyaa banaae kai |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੁਰ ਪਤਿ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
taa te mur pat mariyo adhik dukh paae kai |
ਯਾ ਕੁਤੀਯਾ ਕੀ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਉਘਾਰਿਯੌ ॥
yaa kuteeyaa kee ab hee kriaa ughaariyau |
ਹੋ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਕੈ ਮੂੰਡ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਇਹ ਮਾਰਿਹੌ ॥੮॥
ho pratham moondd kai moondd bahur ih maarihau |8|
ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਸਭ ਸੰਗ ਤਹੀ ਆਵਤ ਭਈ ॥
le prajaa sabh sang tahee aavat bhee |
ਜਹਾ ਖਾਟ ਤਟ ਗਾਡਿ ਦੋਊ ਗੁਡਿਯਨ ਗਈ ॥
jahaa khaatt tatt gaadd doaoo guddiyan gee |
ਸਭਨ ਲਹਿਤ ਖਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਲਏ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਕੈ ॥
sabhan lahit khan bhoom le te kaadt kai |
ਹੋ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਸਵਤਿ ਕੋ ਮੂੰਡ ਨਾਕ ਪੁਨਿ ਬਾਢਿ ਕੈ ॥੯॥
ho moondd savat ko moondd naak pun baadt kai |9|
ਮੂੰਡਿ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਕਟਿ ਨਾਕ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
moondd moondd katt naak bahur tih maariyo |
ਉਹਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਤਿ ਹਨਿ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਯਾ ਕਹ ਟਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
auhi bidh pat han ih chhal yaa keh ttaariyo |
ਚੰਚਲਾਨ ਕੇ ਭੇਦ ਨਾਹਿ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
chanchalaan ke bhed naeh kinahoon lahiyo |
ਹੋ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰੁ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨਨ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
