ਜੁਗ ਛਤੀਹ ਕੀਓ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
jug chhateeh keeo gubaaraa |
For thirty-six ages, utter darkness prevailed.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
too aape jaaneh sirajanahaaraa |
Only You Yourself know this, O Creator Lord.
ਹੋਰ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
hor kiaa ko kahai ki aakh vakhaanai too aape keemat paaeidaa |1|
What can anyone else say? What can anyone explain? Only You Yourself can estimate Your worth. ||1||
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
oankaar sabh srisatt upaaee |
The One Universal Creator created the entire Universe.
ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਤਮਾਸਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
sabh khel tamaasaa teree vaddiaaee |
All the plays and dramas are to Your glory and greatness.
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਕ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
aape vek kare sabh saachaa aape bhan gharraaeidaa |2|
The True Lord Himself makes all distinctions; He Himself breaks and builds. ||2||
ਬਾਜੀਗਰਿ ਇਕ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
baajeegar ik baajee paaee |
The Juggler has staged His juggling show.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਈ ॥
poore gur te nadaree aaee |
Through the Perfect Guru, one comes to behold it.
ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
sadaa alipat rahai gurasabadee saache siau chit laaeidaa |3|
One who remains forever detached in the Word of the Guru's Shabad - his consciousness is attuned to the True Lord. ||3||
ਬਾਜਹਿ ਬਾਜੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥
baajeh baaje dhun aakaaraa |
The musical instruments of the body vibrate and resound.
ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਜਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
aap vajaae vajaavanahaaraa |
The Player Himself plays them.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪਉਣੁ ਵਹੈ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਵਣੈ ਸਭ ਵਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
ghatt ghatt paun vahai ik rangee mil pavanai sabh vajaaeidaa |4|
The breath flows equally through the hearts of each and every being. Receiving the breath, all the instruments sing. ||4||
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
karataa kare su nihchau hovai |
Whatever the Creator does, surely comes to pass.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
gur kai sabade haumai khovai |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, egotism is consumed.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
gur parasaadee kisai de vaddiaaee naamo naam dhiaaeidaa |5|
By Guru's Grace, some are blessed with glorious greatness; they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||5||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
gur seve jevadd hor laahaa naahee |
There is no other profit as great as service to the Guru.
ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
naam man vasai naamo saalaahee |
The Naam abides within my mind, and I praise the Naam.
ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
naamo naam sadaa sukhadaataa naamo laahaa paaeidaa |6|
The Naam is forever the Giver of peace. Through the Naam, we earn the profit. ||6||
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
bin naavai sabh dukh sansaaraa |
Without the Name, all the world suffers in misery.
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
bahu karam kamaaveh vadheh vikaaraa |
The more actions one does, the more the corruption increases.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
naam na seveh kiau sukh paaeeai bin naavai dukh paaeidaa |7|
Without serving the Naam, how can anyone find peace? Without the Naam, one suffers in pain. ||7||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aap kare tai aap karaae |
He Himself acts, and inspires all to act.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
gur parasaadee kisai bujhaae |
By Guru's Grace, He reveals Himself to a few.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਹਿ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
guramukh hoveh se bandhan torreh mukatee kai ghar paaeidaa |8|
One who becomes Gurmukh breaks his bonds, and attains the home of liberation. ||8||
ਗਣਤ ਗਣੈ ਸੋ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
ganat ganai so jalai sansaaraa |
One who calculates his accounts, burns in the world.
ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕੈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
sahasaa mool na chukai vikaaraa |
His skepticism and corruption are never dispelled.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗਣਤ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
guramukh hovai su ganat chukaae sache sach samaaeidaa |9|
One who becomes Gurmukh abandons his calculations; through Truth, we merge in the True Lord. ||9||
ਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ਤ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥
je sach dee ta paae koee |
If God grants Truth, then we may attain it.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur parasaadee paragatt hoee |
By Guru's Grace, it is revealed.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
sach naam saalaahe rang raataa gur kirapaa te sukh paaeidaa |10|
One who praises the True Name, and remains imbued with the Lord's Love, by Guru's Grace, finds peace. ||10||
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
jap tap sanjam naam piaaraa |
The Beloved Naam, the Name of the Lord, is chanting, meditation, penance and self-control.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
kilavikh kaatte kaattanahaaraa |
God, the Destroyer, destroys sins.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
har kai naam tan man seetal hoaa sahaje sehaj samaaeidaa |11|
Through the Name of the Lord, the body and mind are cooled and soothed, and one is intuitively, easily absorbed into the Celestial Lord. ||11||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
antar lobh man mailai mal laae |
With greed within them, their minds are filthy, and they spread filth around.
ਮੈਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
maile karam kare dukh paae |
They do filthy deeds, and suffer in pain.
ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
koorro koorr kare vaapaaraa koorr bol dukh paaeidaa |12|
They deal in falsehood, and nothing but falsehood; telling lies, they suffer in pain. ||12||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
niramal baanee ko man vasaae |
Rare is that person who enshrines the Immaculate Bani of the Guru's Word within his mind.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur parasaadee sahasaa jaae |
By Guru's Grace, his skepticism is removed.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
gur kai bhaanai chalai din raatee naam chet sukh paaeidaa |13|
He walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, day and night; remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he finds peace. ||13||
ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aap sirandaa sachaa soee |
The True Lord Himself is the Creator.
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ॥
aap upaae khapaae soee |
He Himself creates and destroys.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
guramukh hovai su sadaa salaahe mil saache sukh paaeidaa |14|
One who becomes Gurmukh, praises the Lord forever. Meeting the True Lord, he finds peace. ||14||
ਅਨੇਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
anek jatan kare indree vas na hoee |
Making countless efforts, sexual desire is not overcome.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
kaam karodh jalai sabh koee |
Everyone is burning in the fires of sexuality and anger.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
satigur seve man vas aavai man maare maneh samaaeidaa |15|
Serving the True Guru, one brings his mind under control; conquering his mind, he merges in the Mind of God. ||15||
ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥
meraa teraa tudh aape keea |
You Yourself created the sense of 'mine' and 'yours.'
ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਆ ॥
sabh tere jant tere sabh jeea |
All creatures are Yours; You created all beings.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੮॥
naanak naam samaal sadaa too guramatee man vasaaeidaa |16|4|18|
O Nanak, contemplate the Naam forever; through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord abides in the mind. ||16||4||18||

ਕਹੂੰ ਬਾਜ ਜੂਝੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
kahoon baaj joojhe kahoon raaj maare |
ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾਜ ਬਾਜੀਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਜ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
kahoon taaj baajeen ke saaj ddaare |
ਕਿਤੇ ਛੋਰ ਛੇਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਛੈਲ ਮੋਰੇ ॥
kite chhor chheke kite chhail more |
ਕਿਤੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੀਨ ਕੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਤੋਰੇ ॥੮॥
kite chhatr dhaareen ke chhatr tore |8|
ਲਗੇ ਜ੍ਵਾਨ ਗੋਲੀਨ ਕੇ ਖੇਤ ਜੂਝੇ ॥
lage jvaan goleen ke khet joojhe |
ਚਲੇ ਭਾਜਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਬੂਝੇ ॥
chale bhaaj kete nahee jaat boojhe |
ਭਰੇ ਲਾਜ ਕੇਤੇ ਹਠੀ ਕੋਪਿ ਢੂਕੇ ॥
bhare laaj kete hatthee kop dtooke |
ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰ ਕੂਕੇ ॥੯॥
chahoon or te maar hee maar kooke |9|
ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਗਾੜੇ ਗੜੈ ਘੇਰਿ ਆਏ ॥
chahoon or gaarre garrai gher aae |
ਹਠੀ ਖਾਨ ਕੋਪੇ ਲੀਏ ਸੈਨ ਘਾਏ ॥
hatthee khaan kope lee sain ghaae |
ਇਤੇ ਸੂਰ ਸੋਹੈ ਉਤੈ ਵੈ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
eite soor sohai utai vai biraajai |
ਮੰਡੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਗ ਭਾਜੇ ॥੧੦॥
mandde krodh kai kai nahee paig bhaaje |10|

ਛੋਰਿ ਖੇਤ ਪਗ ਨ ਟਰੇ ਭਿਰੇ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਚਾਇ ॥

ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸਨ ਗਾਡੇ ਗੜਹਿ ਘੇਰਿ ਲਿਯੋ ਭਟ ਆਇ ॥੧੧॥

ਭੁਜੰਗ ਛੰਦ ॥

ਕਿਤੇ ਗੋਲਿ ਗੋਲਾ ਮਹਾ ਬਾਨ ਛੋਰੇ ॥
kite gol golaa mahaa baan chhore |
ਕਿਤੇ ਗਰਬ ਧਾਰੀਨ ਕੇ ਗਰਬ ਤੋਰੇ ॥
kite garab dhaareen ke garab tore |
ਪਰੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਕਹਾ ਲੌ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
paree maar bhaaree kahaa lau bakhaano |
ਉਡੀ ਜਾਨ ਮਾਖੀਰੁ ਕੀ ਮਾਖਿ ਮਾਨੋ ॥੧੨॥

aau bhatt mue jaat neh boojhe |
ਭਜੇ ਸੁਭਟ ਆਵਤ ਭਏ ਤਹਾ ॥
bhaje subhatt aavat bhe tahaa |
ਜੋਬਨ ਖਾਨ ਖੇਤ ਮੈ ਜਹਾ ॥੧੪॥
joban khaan khet mai jahaa |14|

ਬਲਵੰਡ ਖਾ ਕੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਮੁਏ ਸੰਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਸੂਰ ॥

ਬਿਨ ਸ੍ਰਯਾਰੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਖਾਏ ਜਨਕ ਕਪੂਰ ॥੧੫॥
bin srayaare seetal bhe khaae janak kapoor |15|

ਚਪਲ ਕਲਾ ਜੋਬਨ ਖਾ ਜਬੈ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
chapal kalaa joban khaa jabai nihaariyo |
ਗਿਰੀ ਧਰਨਿ ਮੁਰਛਾਇ ਕਾਮ ਸਰ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
giree dharan murachhaae kaam sar maariyo |
ਪਤ੍ਰੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਬਨਾਇ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਸੌ ਬਾਧਿ ਕਰਿ ॥
patree likhee banaae bisikh sau baadh kar |
ਹੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਧਨੁਜ ਚਲਾਇ ਧਨੁਖ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਸਾਧਿ ਕਰਿ ॥੧੬॥
ho deeno dhanuj chalaae dhanukh drirr saadh kar |16|
ਸੁਨੁ ਕੁਅਰ ਜੂ ਅਬ ਜੌ ਤੁਮ ਮੋ ਕੌ ਬਰੌ ॥
sun kuar joo ab jau tum mo kau barau |
ਤੌ ਮੈ ਦੇਊ ਬਤਾਇ ਰਾਜ ਗੜ ਕੋ ਕਰੌ ॥
tau mai deaoo bataae raaj garr ko karau |
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਬ︀ਯਾਹਿ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਕਰਿਬੋ ਠਹਰਾਇਯੈ ॥
pratham bayaeh mo sau karibo tthaharaaeiyai |
ਹੋ ਤੈਸਹਿ ਪਤਿਯਾ ਸਰ ਸੋ ਬਾਧਿ ਚਲਾਇਯੈ ॥੧੭॥
ho taiseh patiyaa sar so baadh chalaaeiyai |17|
ਬ︀ਯਾਹ ਕੁਅਰ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਕਰਿਬੋ ਠਹਰਾਇਯੋ ॥
bayaah kuar taa sau karibo tthaharaaeiyo |
ਵੈਸਹਿ ਪਤਿਯਾ ਸਰ ਸੌ ਬਾਧਿ ਬਗਾਇਯੋ ॥
vaiseh patiyaa sar sau baadh bagaaeiyo |
ਗੜ ਗਾੜੇ ਕੇ ਮਾਝ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਸਰ ਜਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
garr gaarre ke maajh pariyo sar jaae kar |
ਹੋ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਅੰਕ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਲਿਯੋ ਉਰ ਲਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥੧੮॥
